The reason Memphians need the Recall bill to pass is for instances like what just happened. The board feels like there's no one above their own reprise. Since they have a clique that's a majority of the vote they can out way what the public wants and do what they decide is right. The voters need to be able to realize and act when we feel we have made a mistake like we clearly feel with the 6 board members. PLEASE PASS THE RECALL BILL!
That's all these electeds, the churches, schools, parents, these dumbass adults It ain't no wonder the children don't want to listen, y'all full of shii
The community at large is to blame!! We had very low voter turn out to even select the board members. Instead of complaining, become proactive and participate in all local elections to insure that a seat is not filled by less than 5% of the population. We are in this situation, because the community failed to exercise its civil duty. Signed an active voter who has yet to see a precinct full of voters during a local election!!!
Thank you, Representative Camper! I applaud your sentiments about the structure of a system - you are a seasoned representative! The ASD is a state-controlled school system and we see everything happening with it - failure! People need to be careful about asking the state to take over because you definitely won’t have a say about local elections! Each school district has citizens who choose their commissioner and that is the power of the vote! Representative Camper, you are a voice of reasoning and I appreciate your service to Shelby County!
I’m not trying to hear what the state rep has to say. If she’s just going to sit there talking about unity after years of corruption within Memphis Shelby County Schools Board, it’s a waste of time. The citizens are fed up. The kids aren’t being properly educated, and half the board can’t even read themselves. It’s time for the state to step in and take action.
As a current educator it is simply not fair to state that are students are not learning. We have real data and facts that proves our MSCS schools made significant increases in all content areas. Yes, we still have work, but that will require parents to step up and do more to support their children. Their are too many people making these statements that really attack the efforts of schools and teachers who work tirelessly to educate students. We have to stop overshowing the focus of academics and separate it from the politics.
If your delegation was so strong, why didn’t intervene when this was happening. If your voice is so relevant why didn’t you speak up before they fired her? Let the state come We don’t trust yal anymore.
Public schools educate more students than private which can significantly reduce the per pupil amount a school receives to provide instruction and resources to each student. Also, private schools are much harder to track because they run on a different framework than public.
@ I’m talking about $ dollars spent “per” student. Private school parents pay for someone else child through taxes. Private school parents then pay for their child to get better education.
Public School kids in Nashville get $7000 per child per year. The closest private school to me "Brentwood Academy 1/2 mile" charges $34,490 per child per year. These parents want the $7000 from the public schools to help with their tuition at the private school..

Nashville kids get $7000 per year per student. So wealthy people who already have the $15,000-$34,490 a year to send their children to private and religious schools want taxpayers to foot the bill .🤔 School vouchers- $350 million dollars. They are also wanting to take the lottery money that Tennessee taxpayers voted on to go to Public Schools, Public Universities, and Trade Schools. They are wanting to take the Tennessee Promise money that has educated and given many Tennesseans of all ages a trade.
I’m so glad that the VOTERS have the last voice in the polls! Maybe this city needs a citywide CLEANSE on all these positions!
Can’t believe they hired an alcoholic and husband of a felon.
Voters been voting blue 64 yrs and now have Somolia the city is dirty crime wriiten and looks an acts 3rd world ghetto.

So basically she said nothing
MSCS felt an alcoholic and husband of a convicted felon was a better option as superintendent. 🤷

Correct! Not when they appoint an alcoholic who wife was found to have embezzled school funds.!

Why does it take more money to educate public school kids than private school kids.
Do you think it has something to do with the fact that public schools are much more larger than private?
