    The "good" are the playability and sound, which I agree is quite nice. Construction issues and enlarged price seem to be the "negatives". I have a Kala baritone which it terrific. I still play tenor ukes most of the time. But, every now and then I love to get out the baritone and play. Being larger instruments, they have a bigger sound and have an almost acoustic guitar feel about them while maintaining the unique charms of a ukulele. Anyway, I enjoyed your very fair and thorough review.

    Great review! I’d like to get one for when I play with guitar players. That way I still get my use sound and nobody gets confused on chord positions.

    I may have missed you mentioning this, but this is a sort of hybrid baritone, as Ohana designed it to have regular gcea ukulele tuning and not the lower baritone tuning. It tends to be brighter with that tuning. thx for the vid. Brent

      Never heard that before. Though with the right strings any regular baritone can be tuned to C

    Nice thorough review, as always. Have you had the chance to compare this against the Ohana BK-20 (laminate mahog w/ solid mahogany top) or the Ohana BK-35 (all solid mahogany)? From what I've heard, the BK-70 is supposed to have a bit more of a guitar sound and feel to it. But there are hardly any sound samples of the BK-20 online, which is a bit surprising given that it seems like it would be a well-rounded instrument on the lower end of the baritone price range.

    Another good review, thank you. I too was hoping for a better quality instrument. Perhaps the next Baritone?

    Longer neck would also provide better neck balance

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a pretty standard neck - no reason why it could not be built to be balanced.

    Is there a baritone that you've reviewed that you feel is the best value for the money out of all the baritones you've looked at?

      Probably the Duke, but no longer made. The Fireball is the best all rounder i've seen though

    I have the TK70R and had MAJOR issues with the fretboard aside from it looking terrible. I love Ohana ukes but even when sent back to them in So Cal for repair there are still sharp frets. I love the instrument but it’s taken a long time to bond with it.

      That's not good.

      GotAUkulele ...not at all. I was really disappointed and surprised since I own the SK28 and it is flawless as far as I can tell. I had high hopes for my TK70R.

      GotAUkulele I think he/she means are those the notes you tune the strings to.

    Don’t see the point in baritones - there comes a point when a 6 string will do.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm - except a baritone has 4 and is usually quite a bit smaller than even a ⅔ size guitar. For me - the tuning choice is not something that defines an instrument - a bari is more similar to a tenor guitar- something that fell out of favour but is coming back with a vengeance..

    • @evansclan4eva49

      GotAUkulele I suppose seeing a baritone displayed next to a tenor, concert and/or soprano makes it appear bigger than what it really is. The one here just seems huge and a lot like a guitar. I just like something different. A baritone would be too similar to a guitar for me. A soprano uke is the type I’m really starting to like. I love the fact they’re so portable and almost invisible. Until you let rip at the office or a bbq! I’ve played guitar for years but lockdown made me try a uke. I love them. I bought a £40 Laka first. I will one day purchase a half decent one. Or wait till Christmas and hint to the better half! Enjoying your reviews!

      @@evansclan4eva49 Don't get me wrong - I mainly play guitar myself (which may surprise people) and I agree in part. In fact i don't own a bari for that very reason. But.. I think it's horses for courses. Maybe the bari gets people closer to trying guitar ( a good think?) or maybe people have tried guitar and struggled, but like the closeness of bari. I still think they are closer to tenor guitar, but I do get your point. Hey stringed instruments are a broad church and it's all good?

      GotAUkulele it’d be a boring world if we all loved the same! I agree that something like a bari could help someone struggling to learn a 6 string. How can we guitarists forget trying to stick to the first 4 strings on our dodgy Argos nylons until we could use our second and third finger to complete a G. A uke is what I’d like to start my little one off on.
