  • Do you have an early 2000's Pontiac and some of the dash lights are burnt out? You're not alone. This is a very common problem, especially now that the cars are older.
    The bulbs GM used in these dashes are very susceptible to failure, especially when the dash is disassembled and something is serviced. Basically the vibration from working on the dash will cause lights to stop working.
    The worst part is, the bulbs are not serviceable. They're soldered onto the circuit board and basically require putting in a new unit.
    My advice in a situation where the display on the radio is gone, just buy an after market head unit. You'll get better sound quality and more functionality from your stereo after.

    Just backing up Jack Shields' comment, he is totally right, the three LCD backlights on the radio are replaceable. I just removed the three existing lights by heating up the soldered in lights then soldering in three new bulbs (model 2162).

      Hope more people see that model number. I want to upgrade to a double din if it will even fit and I want to repair the bulbs in the original once I have the aftermarket setup working.

      We prefer to just change the head unit and add bluetooth

    100% wrong, the lights behind the LED display ARE serviceable and can be replaced.

      They are definitely replaceable I've done it on two of radios. You have to know how to use a soldering iron and open the radio but aside from that it's pretty easy. They are standard 12 volt incandescent bulbs and they don't burn out simply by removing the unit.

      Did this myself as well. Was surprised to see just the bulbs fix the LCD display it seemed there was more to it then that.

      If you can solder, it's not plug and play to my knowledge.

    What kind of radio and mounting kit do you have?

    Radio display lights gone, however if replace another radio system, I won’t be able to control from my steering wheel button which I don’t want to give up

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure you can, you just need to purchase a steering wheel control module available at your local install shop. What kind of vehicle do you have?

      Thank you very much for your reply. I will consider while it does control my video system with the remote headsets.

    i have this exact radio for my 2005 pontiac vibe and today i noticed the sound went completely messed up. it hisses and makes crackling sounds. its very hard to adjust the setting back to had it and seems almost impossible because the light is completely out. I have been thinking of replacing this ever since i had the exact same issue you mentioned. the light easily burns out and mine has been completely dim. i wonder if you ever came across sound issues? and if i replace the radio with something like what you have in the video will that be the same thing. any ideas?

      Michael Rundell Apcar I would just change the head unit with an aftermarket one and get one with Bluetooth connectivity if you're having that many issues.

    Exact same head unit in early 2000 Toyota Matrix same thing happened.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix was a joint venture between Toyota and Pontiac so they have similar parts.

    can the stereo backlight display effect the rest of the dash lights?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it shorts out in theory yes. They tend to be on the same circuit. But from the cars I've seen, usually the head unit is just the issue because the gauges have more bulbs to illuminate them so you can still see them.

  • @otakuartistly

    But is there a way the change the color of the time because my uncle has the same Pontiac vibe but it is 2005 and the color of the time is red and my uncle can't barely see the time it is so is there a way to change the color of the radio like change the color the yellow or green more lighter color that we can see the time better?????????????????????????????

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      christina trujillo You could change the bulb colour I suppose. Or purchase an aftermarket head unit that allows you to change the colour to whatever you want.
