Mike had only one round which was not good let's say... But all the other rounds were just unique, stylish, and with difficulty in them and a very good variaty of tricks and execution in 4/5... On the other hand Andrew had really good execution in all rounds and cool style, but no difficulty or variaty... For me Guthrie was definitely the winner without a second thought :)
I couldn't agree more. I can't even really add anything--you hit it right on the head... I literally was just saying: "whoooaa, look at the creativity in some of Mike's passes", and was... well... you know, a bit less impressed with Andrew overall. They both did great, but... yah... I don't get it, hahah.
Definitely think Mike should have won. He flubbed a bit but his difficulty was off the scales. I feel like there is some bias among Danny and Anis towards kicking :p
But he shouldnt have tried things he didnt have perfect im a second dan black belt and ive been thought that martial is about discipline and perfection is a big part of that
well in that case Michael's technique is far more perfect than Andrew's, Andrew landed his stuff but with more effort and it was lower difculty, mike also only touched the floor once, and he at least beated Andrew in 3 rounds
This battle reminds me of the one between Vellu and Chris Afonso. Vellu tried to variate as much as possible and showed new and difficult tricks, when Chris basically did the same combo over and over again. Here's the same thing except Andrew did was pretty good as well, but not nearly as good as Mike in general. I think the judges just don't want the famous trickers to win. :(
moad alami Actually, throwing a triple cork would be kinda cheap in my opinion, everyone knows what Mike is capable of coming into this competition, I'm pretty sure he consciously chose not to do it. He failed one round and that was enough to cost him the win, but man envergado punch bs14? double full punch bs12? That mega cork combo? tell me that's NOT breathtaking..
R1: Mike barely R2: Andrew R3: Close call R4: Mike barely R5: Mike R6: Mike Andrew's great, but he showed next to no variation, obviously way below on difficulty, and took no risks. In short, boring to watch. Minus R2, Mike was just as consistent, just as clean, and showed versatility. I have nothing but respect for these judges, but this just doesn't make sense.
Just remember, Judges are tasked with judging one particular aspect of the trick and NOT an overall performance. If it's anything like bboying, the 5 aspects are : Foundation, Creativity, Difficulty, Execution, and Conversation. Whether or not these are the five Trickstar uses, watch the video 5 times looking ONLY at a certain aspect. That is how you judge - non biased. - doubt anyone will read this, since it's old news, it's here just in case
You all have your opinions and your opinions are all valid but according to this competition, the winner is decided by the judges. Each of the judges, despite their inclinations and affiliations, has contributed immeasurably to the movement that is tricking and is therefore qualified to judge based on the criteria that they see as definitive of tricking.
The reason why Andrew won is to have a contradictory, unexpected end to the whole tournament. Hence, leading to more views and more attention for their channel etc. They know what they were doing.
Flow hahaha even Flow thinks Michael should have won. Guthrie has the best corks and jsteps in the world. Also his difficulty was much higher and he was a much more explosive tricker. But congratulations andrew
Shout out to Steve terada and Jeremy marinas for voting for Michael Guthrie, he should've won with his difficult technique kicks and twisting. Hope season 2 comes out soon.
The judges were consistent the entire competition. Clean tricks over difficulty. Think of each pass out of 10 pts with "a perfect combo" combining trick execution, trick difficulty then quantity of tricks factoring in hierarchically. The second you crash, you give up all the points. You lose the run. Andrew's asses scored: 6,8,6,7,6,7=40 Michael's passes scored: 8,0,7,7,9,8=39 Even though Mike had much higher trick difficulty, he completely loses a pass and kills his score. I'm not saying this is how it should be but rather that the methodology the judges applied was consistent. You can say bigger tricks deserve a lot more points but the fear becomes you have everyone just throwing big tricks and no one landing them just to be able to compete. Execution has to be top priority when dealing with competitions. If we want these competitions to be more legitimate,we need to adopt scoring similar to gymnastics or ice skating where the difficulty of the pass determines the max amount of points you can earn but execution determines how many of those points you actually get. tl;dr the judges were consistent, change the scoring system, spam dubs
Hmmm... I see your point. Like... maybe a "multiplier" for each tier of difficulty? And perhaps a major "subtraction" if you fail badly or whatever...? In any case... hmm... if it is ALWAYS solely about clean moves, it just discourages people from thinking outside the box with passion, fury, spirit and heart. And if it leads to it becoming "homogenized" like gymnastics... it'll be a sad day. :( Not only in my OWN "low level" eyes, but... I can guarantee that the originators of Tricking would be sad, too. :( *sigh*
"If we want these competions to be like gymnastics" There's the bombshell. We still don't have a consensus as a community of what we want tricking to become. Why can't it be like bboying? Bboying has evolved a competition culture that is COMPLETELY different from gymnastics, and works well for them. It even fits our cultural roots. I train with a lot of gymnasts, and trust me when I say the cultures are water and oil. Why should we aspire to be something we're simply not? A score kill for a crash frankly does not make any sense. Even in gymnastics this does not happen. You'd just get a .5 deduction, a whole point if it's really bad, but never a zero. You lose points for that skill, not the whole pass. If anything, cut it in half. Note, I'm not blaming the judges for adhering to a system, but I'm criticizing that system. Also if we're making the comparison to gymnastics, Michael should have gotten a lot of extra points for difficulty.
James Liu very true that a "score kill" would be bad on anything other than simply not combo'ing or passing. I mean... what if you throw an INSANE combo... 90% of it is ridiculously off-the-charts, Anis-Jerm-Graham style berserk... but then on your final move, you bail a bit and your knee goes down. Or you even "roll" out of it. Soooo punish that "pathetic" combo with ZERO points??! IDK. Methinks not, but it's just my opinion.
James Liu I said if we want the competitions to be more legit, we don't have to adapt gymnastics style scoring or something. The judging as it stands doesn't accommodate for situations like this battle.
Just the mere challenge to stay perfectly calm when facing Guthrie deserves an award. To watch him fuck up one landing, knowing you have a shot if you pull off all your moves perfectly, and then do exactly that, is definitely enough to win.
I saw this coming... I just had a feeling danny and anis were gonna get guthrie to the final battle then make him lose to make him look bad. But then again i could be wrong. good battle though
Dylan P if you can explain to me the tricks Andrew did and then explain the tricks Mike did they're not even on the same level man!!! I can sit here and say the specific tricks Mike did in the battle that Andrew can't even attempt doing, aannddd Mike is still sharper and cleaner than Andrew. Don't get me wrong Andrew is a great tricker but he can't even compete with Mike let alone beat him!! It's unexplainable man
This video is a perfect example of how clean and simple tricks can beat elite level tricks. Guthrie's tricks are clean but they weren't as clean as Franklin's from what i saw. Also the small screw up on Guthries part costed him alot. Franklin's sets were on point, sharp, and clean. It wasn't a easy win though, You could tell it was a very close battle.
michael had more variety and his difficulty level was much higher. that being said, andrew landed all of his moves unlike michael but well done to both trickers!! andrew stayed calm and executed everything perfectly!! :D i still love michael guthrie though :D
That was a close battle, Guthrie dominated two rounds, but messed up on one of the combos which cost him a lot , but Andrews snappy kicks, consistency and variety got him the win for sure
though andrew's combos were really clean and well-executed, i still think mike should have taken the win. his kicks were incredibly sharp, his twisting insane as usual, and he did some very creative stuff in there.
Michaeal was like a tornado, he was destoying everyone in his path since the very start and he lost at the end. Well, congratulations Andrew! This was an absolutely amazing battle. I like those faces of the judges in 2:57. And yeah, awkward ending, lol.
This is Sesshoumaru, and first off I want to congratulate both Michael Guthrie and Andrew Franklin for making so far in the tournament series, both of you have battled through some pretty heavy hitters to get to this point...so great job in that respect. Not that my critique is needed, because the judges are competent enough...but Andrew certainly won this. Here's my breakdown: R1 - Tie (debatable) R2 - Andrew R3 - Andrew R4 - Andrew R5 - Guthrie R6 - Guthrie It was really close, so close that if you make an argument about Guthrie taking the first round, then this contest would be a draw.
There's no way that guthrie lost... All of his rounds except one decimated, franklin began to look repetitive, still respect to both, it was a shame matt emig couldn't continue, he would have been am immense contender :)
Why do you people care so much? They're both dope and they both put on a great show. If you people spent more time studying these tricks/training and less time getting frustrated over the outcome of a video, you'd be surprised at how much more fun tricking can be.
In my oppinoin the judges are completly wrong. Michael won this battle without a second thought. Andrew was amaizing dont get me wrong but michael´s way to trick was far more imoressive. Harder tricks were cleaner as andrews in relation to difficulty of tricks. and it´s kind of weird that anis and daniel voted for andrew he is their buddy and they train together and michael had/has some issues with anis and daniel. But anyway this battle was amazing both tricker went hard, but michael went harder. Loocking farward for the next JAM Battle ! You should keep Jeremy and Steve for judging the next Battles.
as someone said, michael guthrie definitely does harder stuff, and bigger combos, but andrews body form is so fluid and clean through his moves, not even a hint of correcting for being off balance mid combo, it looks lovely to watch
I've never been fanbuoy of Guthrie but that mega cork combo was awesome. Now when this is over it's time to unsubscribe because I don't want to see any parkour on my front page.
such a close battle! gotta say tho mike looked unusually off his game and andrew went in. Also still dont really understand why they put in a slippery layer of puzzle mats for the competition when the floor at JAM is already really nice to trick on. I think that could be a large reasons for the slip ups we've seen throughout competition.
I watch it 3 times and Guthrie win by 4:2 agants Franklin, but i dont know how judges judge this battle but oke. If you judge by using this: difficulty of tricks - flow - combination of tricks and kicks Guthire is winner by my point of view.
"THE OUTCOME WASN'T WHAT I THINK IT SHOULD BE!? THE BATTLE IS POINTLESS AND STUPID!" Stop whining and study/enjoy the tricks. You're not the judges. You're allowed to have opinions, but to discredit the battle and blam the video because the result wasn't what you wanted....that's elementary school crap. Take a time-out. Both trickers were insane. This is NOT addressing those who think Guthrie won, stated this rationally, and were civil about it.
I want to start by saying good job to both michael and Andrew. You guys are amazing. Good job Andrew with the win. I know mike messed up once but Andrew looked like he was playing it safe doing a lot of the same moves. I can't do haft of these moves but still mike looked like he had more difficult tricks. Anyway I'm just saying the one slip up must of coast him the title because Andrew didn't out trick mike be beat him with clean moves that he didn't over and over again.
Andrew killed it! So clean. And Guthrie has a few flops, Franklin was clean all the way through. It is not about what one person CAN do, it's about what they showed IN the battle. At the beginning the judges stated their criteria and Franklin nailed it.
Congrats to Andrew!!! He did well in this battle. I guess the judging was more like in a bboy battle, which means that the tricker with the ultimate moves does not automatically win, but the tricker who does his moves right on point.
this was probably such a close battle mike had way harder tricks but the deciding factor was how clean Andrew was executing, really precise and powerful. if mike didn't slip up that one time it might have been a different outcome
It seemed as if Michael had a variety of different combinations he was pulling and had a good style while Andrew based his whole performance off of his kicks and pulled one big move at the end of them.
I wanted matt emig participating in final :( wtf he said season one? So we are going to see anis, marinas and more other trickers that would be awesome. Also expected a triple cork from mike :3
Mike definitely had the superior combos in terms of difficulty, style, variety and were executed flawlessly(minus the one flub), terrible decision on the judges part
Andrew Franklin sticks too his style of Kicking. He was playing save and Gutrhie thruth some hardcore stuff at this Battle. But in the beginning he was fallling to much. In the first Rounds if Guthrie failed he recorverd with a move that fits in in the fail situation and so that knowing not noticed!!!
At least to me, that battle was a obvious win for Guthrie. I think even Andrew whould agree with that. He didn´t seem very happy at the end,, more like confused or surprised. But hey, Andrew was terrific as well, alot of variety and clean combos with good form.
Andrew franklin threw a lot of difficult combinations he usuallt doesn't throw just to stay in par with guthrie. Guthrie is sick as usually but he definitely didn't throw his hardest/intricate combos , so i see why the judges voted in favor of Franklin

They both did great, but... yah... I don't get it, hahah.
bias with anis n danny they dont like guthrie
Definitely think Mike should have won. He flubbed a bit but his difficulty was off the scales. I feel like there is some bias among Danny and Anis towards kicking :p
oooooo killem dante
.
Mike had better kicks overall imo.
But he shouldnt have tried things he didnt have perfect im a second dan black belt and ive been thought that martial is about discipline and perfection is a big part of that

R1: Mike barely

R3: Close call
R4: Mike barely
R5: Mike
R6: Mike
Andrew's great, but he showed next to no variation, obviously way below on difficulty, and took no risks. In short, boring to watch. Minus R2, Mike was just as consistent, just as clean, and showed versatility. I have nothing but respect for these judges, but this just doesn't make sense.
Like how can you read this and think this battle won fair and square. You'd be an idiot. Good job on the specifics man!
It’s called bias. Judges like this need to step back and take a look at the big picture.
That last part awkward as fuck.
Michael guthrie won...
this was dissapointing. flow, get more competent judges next time
They are competent, but biased.
*****
i know they are all og's i mean more competent at judging.
Fancy seeing you here...
I guess they should hire you, since youre very competitive.

Paul Tong these judges weren't judging like they do at red bull they were all judging the whole battle
Paul Tong I read it :D
I was SOOO mad Guthrie lost, but then i rewatched all of Franklin's passes, and I think the last two or three passes gave him the upper edge.
round 1: Mike
round 2:Mike
round 3:Andrew
round 4:Mike
round 5:Mike
round 6:Mike
wtf? why??? Μike deserved to win!

Amazing battle either way though and I am sure Mike is not angry about the outcome as well. :) respect goes off to them both
andrew kick ass
SystemRichie he was
Shout out to Steve terada and Jeremy marinas for voting for Michael Guthrie, he should've won with his difficult technique kicks and twisting. Hope season 2 comes out soon.

Dude. Such an amazing battle. Michaels triple full blew my god Damn mind.
The judges were consistent the entire competition. Clean tricks over difficulty.

My bad, I slightly misread your comment.
Just the mere challenge to stay perfectly calm when facing Guthrie deserves an award. To watch him fuck up one landing, knowing you have a shot if you pull off all your moves perfectly, and then do exactly that, is definitely enough to win.
I wasn't sure the first time I watched it. But counting each pass… Mike 4, Andrew 2.
I saw this coming... I just had a feeling danny and anis were gonna get guthrie to the final battle then make him lose to make him look bad. But then again i could be wrong. good battle though
This is so true
You are delusional. Andrew clearly won.

I thought Danny and Anis used to be friends with Mike?
HELL YEAH MICHAEL KANSAD FTW
michael kansad
michael had more variety and his difficulty level was much higher. that being said, andrew landed all of his moves unlike michael but well done to both trickers!! andrew stayed calm and executed everything perfectly!! :D i still love michael guthrie though :D
just question: do they all battle on the same day because they looked a bit tired :P plus they also wore the same clothes throughout the tournament :P
Waouw What a battle! does anyone know the song during the final? I definitely love this beat! thanks
Michael Guthrie 100%!! he was just incredible, and definitely should've won! Andrew was very good, but seriously.... Michael is amazing
WTF? Guthrie winner!!!!
Guthrie a winner and not a word more!
Dope!
Can I get the song plz?
I would have liked to see a Emig - Guthrie battle
Yeah whats the song guys?
Mikee
That was a close battle, Guthrie dominated two rounds, but messed up on one of the combos which cost him a lot , but Andrews snappy kicks, consistency and variety got him the win for sure
emig battled in 1 much only ?! i cant find another battle !! i was thinking about he deserve to up for final match battle
Flow
oh thats sad -_- injuries is the Taxation of tricking .... hope he is ok now
though andrew's combos were really clean and well-executed, i still think mike should have taken the win. his kicks were incredibly sharp, his twisting insane as usual, and he did some very creative stuff in there.
lets do a trick battle of Michael and Andrew now
Dude I agree !
Michaeal was like a tornado, he was destoying everyone in his path since the very start and he lost at the end. Well, congratulations Andrew! This was an absolutely amazing battle. I like those faces of the judges in 2:57. And yeah, awkward ending, lol.
Does anyone know the song playing during their battle?
Amazing stuff omg this was so awesome! :D
Here's my breakdown:
R1 - Tie (debatable)
R2 - Andrew
R3 - Andrew
R4 - Andrew
R5 - Guthrie
R6 - Guthrie
It was really close, so close that if you make an argument about Guthrie taking the first round, then this contest would be a draw.
There's no way that guthrie lost... All of his rounds except one decimated, franklin began to look repetitive, still respect to both, it was a shame matt emig couldn't continue, he would have been am immense contender :)
that was an awesome battle
Pretty gutted about the decision.. Guthrie should have won hands down.
Awseome series flow hope to see more.
Mike should have won. He used extremely difficult transitions and his dubs are so smooth.
Don't worry mike will always be a legend!!
In my opinion, Guthrie was the winner
good for you
How can this be real...
Why do you people care so much? They're both dope and they both put on a great show. If you people spent more time studying these tricks/training and less time getting frustrated over the outcome of a video, you'd be surprised at how much more fun tricking can be.
Mike losing = More controversy = More views
Politics.
What's the name of the song?
good, good. i enjoyed so much
miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike won!
OMG!!! best battle ever!!!!
EPIC BATTLE
Watching this 5 years later shows me how bad the robbery actually was
It's still a robbery
Song please?
hay, why no trickstar 2, 3? its osom
ahaha the end was so awkward with Andrew xD
Music name please ???
such a close battle! gotta say tho mike looked unusually off his game and andrew went in. Also still dont really understand why they put in a slippery layer of puzzle mats for the competition when the floor at JAM is already really nice to trick on. I think that could be a large reasons for the slip ups we've seen throughout competition.
Are theese floors spring boarded
Otis Sibcy yep
GREATTT BATTLE!! but I do disagree with the judges a little here... Guthrie won this
I agree with the decision. Andrew was a little cleaner in his execution. Guthrie became a little too repetitive.
Guthrie also messed up in one of his early passes i think that might have contributed to him losing
YO can anyone tell us the song name? :D
gangster party 2 - jan Chmelar
Jørgen cheers bro
Artchi darude sandstorm
AWESOME!!!!!!!
gracias por venir
Wow..... It was pretty even. I can't argue with the results.....
I watch it 3 times and Guthrie win by 4:2 agants Franklin, but i dont know how judges judge this battle but oke. If you judge by using this: difficulty of tricks - flow - combination of tricks and kicks Guthire is winner by my point of view.
Epic battle!!!! True inspiration, Andrew style is awesome.. but Mick win for sure..
music ?
"THE OUTCOME WASN'T WHAT I THINK IT SHOULD BE!? THE BATTLE IS POINTLESS AND STUPID!"
Stop whining and study/enjoy the tricks.
When will "Season 2" of Trickstar going to happen? Will we see more female trickers/competitors?
Ig not lol
Judges are very funny!
1.40 music?
LA BATALLA PEOR VALORADA Y MAS DESCOMPENSADA DE LA HISTORIA DEL TRICKING
how tall is guthrie?
Just steve terada and jeremy are imparcials?
Andrew clapping at Michael's last combo at 3:45 lol.
yeah, how fkin classy is that?
others had bad manners in some matchups
Hi guys,
What's the hardest kick for you??
I don't give a shit who the winner is I love em all.
3 judges stink!
Bravo Dario!
Andrew killed it! So clean. And Guthrie has a few flops, Franklin was clean all the way through. It is not about what one person CAN do, it's about what they showed IN the battle. At the beginning the judges stated their criteria and Franklin nailed it.
Anis Cheurfa + Daniel Graham + Steve Terada + Chris Balualua + Jeremy Marinas =Mike Guthrie
suuure
Why the hell didn't guthrie win????? Guthrie should have been the winner
good for you
Congrats to Andrew!!! He did well in this battle. I guess the judging was more like in a bboy battle, which means that the tricker with the ultimate moves does not automatically win, but the tricker who does his moves right on point.

hold on a minute ! Mike was ending combos with snapu swipes here like he was eating them for sweets :S
epic!
Mike definitely had the superior combos in terms of difficulty, style, variety and were executed flawlessly(minus the one flub), terrible decision on the judges part
yeah Andrew was really good and clean in his moves !
Mike is the real winner here!!!
How
Guthrie’s the only guy that mid combo can be like “kinda messed up that kick, guess I’ll save it with an easy TD triple full”
Andrew nailed it, he was clean and fluid , its not about the best trick ,its about all the pass
