Christ Apostolic Church was established in the year 1917 as a prayer group by Peter Newman Anim as African Faith Tabernacle. They believed in divine healing solely! The church went through series of name changes time wouldn’t permit me to go through all that history!Anims quest to know more about the Holy Spirit led him to read magazines of Apostolic church Bradford to which he found very enlightening! Therefore he wrote to them seeking to know more and they agreed to send to him a white missionary Pastor to help him develop the church in the name of James Mackeon. Anim agreed to change the name of his church to Apostolic Church! Mackeons arrival was very crucial in expanding the church to most towns, villages and different Regions of the country. The conflict arose when Mackeon became sick with malaria to which he was sent to Ridge Hospital to be treated. Anim and some of his followers felt Mackeon had broken the rules of no medication except divine healing hence it led to a conflict between the two parties. Mackeon seeked permission from Anim and travelled back to Bradford Uk for a short leave of absence. Apostolic Church Bradford were informed of the ongoing rift to which they wrote to Anim to reconsider this solely divine healing practice but he stood his grounds and refused! Therefore Mackeon returned to Ghana moving straight to the Central Region, Wineaba to be precise to establish Apostolic Church Ghana. (Anim and Mackeon separated)! The court case you were referring to now comes in here my boss. There were now two Apostolic Churches in then Gold Coast ( Apostolic Church led by Anim and Apostolic Church led by Mackeon). Consequently, Mackeon wrote to Anim to cease using the name Apostolic Church since it’s a registered name in Uk Bradford. The battle for the name was the court case which went to cabinet in the 1960. The court ordered Anim to change the name of his church since it’s has already been registered by Apostolic Church Bradford to which Mackeon has now established a branch of it here in Ghana. After series of prayers and fasting by Anim and his followers….they added the prefix “ Christ “ to the Apostolic becoming Christ Apostolic in the year 1960. Then Mackeon used Apostolic Church Gold Coast which was later changed to Apostolic Church Ghana. Mackeon did marvelously well establishing several branches of the Apostolic church across the country. Mackeon later left the Apostolic Church Ghana to establish the church Pentecost. Therefore the Christ Apostolic Church is the oldest Pentecostal church in Ghana my boss…..the church celebrated its 100 years anniversary 5 years ago(2017). We are all learning my boss…….you can verify by reading the history of Pentecostalism in Ghana. After all set and done, Anim was the one who stood as the father of Mackeon when Mackeon was seeking his immigration documents. Mackeon came back to Ghana to burry Anim when Anim died. These churches are all one 😊.
