My channel generally focuses on a more casual side of speedruns. With these videos I want to show off cool speedruns, explain how they work, and entertain. Hopefully you enjoy the content and maybe even take up speedrunning yourself, because it is truly a lot of fun!

I never liked how the later Duck Life games really lengthened the amount of time it takes to train. This video represents it well with how training one attribute for 50 levels in Adventure takes around as long as the entirety of the first or second Duck Life game.
I agree, the minigames are pretty fun by themselves, but doing one for 20 minutes is not
@@EazySpeezy The first swimming minigame in Adventure is one of the only ones I liked because EXP gain increases a ton with how you perform, so if you perform well it doesn't take very long to reach level 50. I think the other minigames should have been like that a lot more.
@Shyguymask definitely agree, it is really sad how getting farther in most minigames doesn’t even give you more benefits. Hopefully it gets better with duck life 9!

19:24 if your duck falls into the volcano, they get the black body color applied for free instead of needing to buy it in the shop. It lasts until you go to the store and pick a new body color.

@@77elite9 I believe it also happens in the second game, although i may be misremembering. All I know is that I had the same question and tried it and that's what happened (black coloring applied to duck for free). The current race also immediately ends.
@@spacialdimension it doesn’t happen in the second game I just checked, it just causes really strange behavior.

In that swimming game of duck life 1, one time I clipped under the giant yacht looking thing which caused me to just get stuck under the map permanently and rack up all of the points I wanted, so I just let the game run there for a long long time, and when I checked back, everything was zooming by at seemingly the speed of light

I guess they divebomb at the flying part because the longer it goes the slower it gets so it makes sense to fly at the max speed and the second it slows down, divebomb and restart to go back to the max speed.

Shout-out to Chris, my one roommate from last summer who didn't tell me he was a top level speedrunner for these games until only a couple weeks before the sublease ended. I was living with a world record holder for *months* without knowing it 😂

If anyone’s curious about the dive bombing while flying in the first game, the duck slows down the longer it flies so dive bombing after initially collecting a bunch of points saves time
I have a very distinct memory of being in kindergarten and “speedrunning” through the first game with my best friend. Neither of us knew what speedrunning was but I can still remember some of the strats we used and how similar they are to modern runs. Elise if you’re still out there you rock
who asked facts: i was watching this while playing dark souls and when you said "and now we will die" i actually died to a bunch of ghosts that ganged up on me lol

I don’t think owner deserves any blame in Duck Life 2 since it’s clearly the duck who wants to win in Duck Life 2.
The only flash games I could play over and over, the grind was fun for me as a kid and sat for hours to become champ in one day. I didn't know there were games past Duck Life 4, might have to try them out soon.

Whenever I played DL4 way back when, I would always gather as many ducks into my team as possible, and always name them Ned, Ted, Ed, Fred, etc
Unfortunately, me having to train so many ducks over and over again so early meant I burnt myself out on the game every single time before ever making it halfway through the swamp
I didn't even know half of these existed... Time really doesn't stop, and neither do the Duck Life Devs
Turns out a new duck life game is coming out! You should speedrun it when it comes out. It actually comes out this year during the spring I think.
I think the flying stages in DL1 have the dive bombs due to how the minigame works, compared to the rest.
EXP is proportional to points earned. All of the other mini games accelerate over time, giving you more points per second as you continue, meaning you get more EXP per second incentivizing minimal attempts.
Flying is opposite where your score increases REALLY fast at the beginning then falls off as you go on, meaning flying for longer becomes inefficient at a point, as your points per second drops. There’s an optimal ratio somewhere where the time lost menuing is made up from the EXP again from resetting your speed
The shear drops are probably timed to line up where your duck noticeably decelerates.

I was weirdly good at climbing as a kid, so I love seeing you finally reach the unpassable barrier that is that clip.
It’s so interesting that this series is so old that I played it during FIRST GRADE, and now you’re speedrunning it.
In my elementary school, once a week we'd go to the library and check out books at a certain reading level, and later we'd do little standardized quizzes that matched that reading level. Anyway, thats not really important, what matters is that after the book was checked out, we had free reign over the computer lab. The whole process only took about 30-45 minutes, so there wasn't much time to really get into a game. But, I swear to everything I hold dear, that during that time, I beat duck life 3. And to this day it's one of my proudest achievements

the way you do well in the annoying running levels is to always try to land right as the ball goes past you. This way, you are already prepared for the next ball, which is probably right next to you already. You don't jump when the ball gets to you, you jump so you land just in front of it

I didn't grow up with some of the nostalgic games you play on your channel and I'm actively working to make up for it. I have already played the Duck Life games and though they're not nostalgic for me, it feels good to be able to relate to the gaming experience.

The phrase "I used a glitch called "New Game Plus", where you have a completed save file." is very funny to me for some reason, haha.
This brings back good memories, the grinding as a kid and the early Duck Life speedrun videos, even though later games don't compare.

For flying and why you want to end it early for speed. It's because it gets slower the longer you fly, so ending it after it leaves top speed means that you're gonna save time.
I know why you need to fall during the flying section in Duck Life 1!
When I was playing it, I noticed that the farther you fly, the more you slow down, and the number in the top right is not a measure of time, but rather of distance. But the amount of time you can stay at max speed increases with your level, so those numbers must be just when you start to slow down or right before that.
By dying specifically at those points, the WR speedrunner was making sure they could stay in the air at max speed for as long as possible.

Honestly I find it pretty sad that like the proper speedruns basically skip most of the content in the later games, like only playing a singular minigame out of the 3 in duck life 4, literally not using your duck for part of the game in space, abusing glitches to skip straight to endgame, etc. Maybe a full video that isnt speedrunning and just regular progression on the second channel would be pretty fun, or split into episodes.

Hey speezy I’ve loved your content for a good while, it was prob my gateway into speedrun stuff! Well, your content and also kingdom hearts speedruns, and on that note I think it’d be rlly fun to see you Any% (or Any% + secret bosses) Kingdom Hearts! There’s a lot of interesting and cool technical aspects to it especially with how menu navigation works so I think it could make for a cool run to learn

One time i decided to 100% the game (by that i mean to play as every duck type) but then all of my progress was deleted after i completed 3 runs.

The camera might be going up and down because the duck is climbing a nonexistent wall.
What I love in this game is that if your flying stat is high enough, you don't actually have to do the other parts of some races.
in the flying training in the first duck life, i'm pretty sure your duck slows down over time, so probably the points threshholds were where the duck slows down enough that it's faster to dive and go again at full speed.
Before I got here and started watching this video I planned to go to bed since it was already 1AM and I was feeling exhausted, however I realized that there was no space on my bed to lay on, so I decided I might as well get up and clean a little, and I decided that while doing so I would need a video playing in the background to distract me and make time go by faster.
BUT. Then I clicked on this video without thinking much about it and after a few minutes of walking around my room I sat down and started staring at my screen. I thought I would be able to move away at any given moment since I was still kind of motivated to clean my room, but no, I just sat there and got more and more absorbed into the video and it got so bad at one point that my eyes blurred over and I couldnt even tell what I was looking at but I couldnt pull away I couldnt stop I didnt know how much more I had how many more games there were it just went on and on and on and now it is 3:20AM and I feel like collapsing

Duck life 3 was really the peak of my childhood
I remember a glitch in which you clip slightly out of bounds when you feed the duck seed and the animation of it feeding doesn't end. The effects of the seed do not go away when you clip so this can continue until the energy stat is maxed out. I exploited it throughout my childhood but I don't know how to do it anymore-
