    The thing abt the NBA is once you get a bad reputation it's hard to get rid of it.
    Wood should be signed with a team by now. The Bucks are aging and they could use frontcrt depth. The Jazz are rebuilding but they could use a backup to Markkanen. The Sixers, Bulls, and Nets could sign him to a 1 or 2 yr deal.

      As a Rockets fan who watched Wood as well, I feel the same way about Wood. His offense is good and aesthetically pleasing to watch. But he's lackadaisical and has little to no interest on defense. His focus seems more on his personal stats than team success. His attitude at times on court when he doesn't get the ball becomes detrimental and it shows on his body language. It's gotten bad to a point where the rockets rookies told Wood that he needs to act more like a veteran.

    as a mavs fan, it's clear there was something going on with coaching. it was reported mavs coaches didn't even want to trade for him at all and were trying to move him again immediately after (even tho we gave up a 1st round pick for him)
    even still he was playing incredible basketball as a starter and 2nd option before the all star break and mavs even offered him an extension (which he declined for $$ reasons) until Kyrie came, then he just didn't fit the system, the offense, and his defense really stood out as a sore spot. his minutes were cut drastically after. I think a team like the heat will be best for maximizing his strengths and hiding his weaknesses.

    • @Smido83
      @Smido83 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thats the point... He did put up numbers, but didnt play incredible. If you play incredible, your team is better with you on the court. Wood had a NetRtg of -5 as a starter in 17 games. As a comparison: Powells NetRtg as a starter was +6. Means Wood did put up way more counting stats, but the team was bad with him in the floor. But the team overall played better with Powell and overall won the minutes with him as a starter.

    • @yonathantaye1797
      @yonathantaye1797 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Smido83 bit unfair to compare bc wood was a starter when we were at our unhealthiest. our 3 best defenders were all injured during that stretch. wood also often gets all the minutes without Luka bc he's tasked with sustaining the offense when he sits, so his NRTG suffers
      even still we went on our longest win streak since 2011 (the championship year) when wood was starting and he was an incredible closer. a clutch 3 and an OT block vs the knicks, like 4 blocks in OT against the lakers including 2 against lebron, and had the best 4Q +/- on the team at one point

    • @Smido83
      @Smido83 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@yonathantaye1797 Nothing is unfair. The team won 9 out of 17 Wood starts... while Wood was being a net negative. Means even without those guys we mostly won the minutes with Wood on the bench!
      Sorry, but there is a reason why no coach Wood ever played for, or franchise overall, wants anything to do with Wood anymore. He is the epitone of a selfish stat padder who doesnt contribute to winning.
      And yes, we won 7 in a row with him starting... And then lost 5 of the next 7 he started. So what your point? We didnt win those games because of Wood... look what Luka did during that stretch! His 60/20/10 game for example. Or his 51 point game against the Spurs...
      I am glad Wood isnt on my Mavs anymore. And I completely understand why noone is offering him more then the vet min. If a 17/7 stretch big isnt signed, its his fault not the fault of his ex coach or franchise. Wood played 29 minutes as the 6th man or starter, declined a 36/2 offer from the Mavs, then got injured and after that he wasnt featured anymore. And rightfully so.

    • @Smido83
      @Smido83 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yonathantaye1797 Edit: Wood played 950 minutes with Luka, Powell 990. The Luka/Powell combo had a NetRtg of +7.4, the Luka/Wood combo a NetRtg of +1.8... So Luka could bail him out when together. But he was really bad without Luka (NetRtg of -3.8) I give you that. As a comparison, Powell still had a NetRtg of +3.9 without Luka...

    I'm gonna go with that Christian Wood will sign with the Miami Heat once Damian Lillard is traded there. I also think he should be the starting Power Forward. At this point, if I'm Christian Wood, I would be worried that no team was willing to give me a contract in Free Agency, so I would be more interested to join the Heat because it seems like they're bound to make a deep Playoff run. And where do players show most of their talent and get big contracts? The Playoffs. Wood is a good offense player with versatile skills, but his defense is atrocious. I think if he joined the Heat, he would buy into the Eric Spoelstra system and put more effort on defense and do the dirty work so he will be able to show NBA teams that he can be a complimentary player.

    I watched every single Mavs game last season. Really believed in Wood and wanted him to start early on, but as the year went by I really soured on him, particularly because his defense is as bad as advertised. What's more, his screens are the worst I've ever seen on a big man, even Hardaway sets better screens. He's a truly gifted offensive player, but he wants to play like he's the first option and that simply isn't ideal. If he wakes up to his reality for his next team (if he does get another contract) and just hustles his ass out there he'll be a steal. But as he is right now, it's not hard to see why he's on his way to washing out of the league. Kelly Oubre is on the same boat.

    He had a remarkable comeback story that made him a hard worker but it lasted such a short period. After he was starting for HOU he had a ego of Harden/Rusell and honestly believing he was a max contract player. He has a similar playing style as Jahlil Okafor whom was 3rd overall pick but ended up becoming a bust due to him not improving on defensive end. Looks like round the league his work ethic is well know and no team is buying his show that he put up last season. (He did try to act cool to be support piece of the team)

    The Mavs' most successful stretch of last season was a 9-4 record when Christian Wood started next to Luka.
    In 17 "starts" Wood averaged 20.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks.
    He actually WON us a few games with very timely blocks.. One was against LBJ and the Lakers.
    CWood IS a liability defensively but would work with a good defensive player backing him up....he got screwed by 1. Javelle McGee being completely horrible, 2. Maxi Kleber being hurt. 3. Bang Brothers fell off defensively. 4. JKidd being petty and leaving him out there on an island defensively...purposefully making him look bad.
    I can't speak to his off court but the team re-signed the absolute WORST center in the entire league....Dwight Powell.
