Great Video. This is the most comprehensive overview I have seen so far. I hope you can release some videos when you have your R5ii explaining your preferred settings when shooting video. I really struggled with the original R5 video codecs and would like to know more about the new codecs in the Mark ii. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to put this video together.
Thank David for this DETAILED review of Canon R5 II. It’s SAD that these days camera manufacturers justify their price increase by adding flashy but IMPRACTICAL features like upscaling jpg files to 180 megapixels! Why don’t Sony and Canon add ANTI THEFT feature & 32 BIT FLOAT internal audio recording to their cameras? That will help the majority of camera users who are solo shooters. Panasonic LUMIX GH7 already has 32 bit float. All the pros know audio is worth 50% of their videos. If the audio is bad, then the video is useless.
There are some things that I would also have wished for but lets keep it real, It's Canon, they gave a lot more here then I would have expected but also they didn't give everything that people have wished for like it always was. 😃
We have all the reviewers and influences to blame. Honestly they're usually not very intelligent, so they don't know how to rip them apart as they should.
@@EricLouisYoung you mean like I did with my R1 Video? But then there come the Canon Fanboys that tell me everything is fine how it is... And honestly, do you really think Canon Cares of what influencers say? I don't.
The 709 Canon profile in 10 bit is a game changer and exactly what I want alongside improved IBIS. Downsampled 4k and even 4k to 1080 downsampling is also incredible.
Excellent preview video with great information! Thank you. I'm curious if the R5 has a one-button custom white balance option in video or are we still having to switch back and forth to photo mode?
Excellent and informative video. I found no issues at all with the German menus as fully understand it would have been impossible to record everything in both languages. Keep up the brilliant work and please post more videos in english as your presntation style is superb and very honest.
30 fps at 14 bit RAW with electronic shutter. The pre-capture is set at 1/2 second no matter what frame rate you are shooting at. I have pre-ordered with grip and extra batteries - upgrading from R5...
It's not a Review, its a Preview, a Hand-On. I'm allowed to share but I have nothing noteworthy to share. There are no pictures I made at the Event that will tell you anything about the R5 II when you edit them.
David it would be so nice to see for photographers like you put this camera to a REAL TEST doing outdoor work photographing Wildlife in especially Birds that is how you test this camera .
If it helps you deciding 4K60 and 120 looks way better than on the R5. It has no need for C-Log Anymore and looks great. Yes I will miss the downsampling from my R5C as well but I hope 8K60 will do it for me when I need the 60FPS Material.
I had hoped for 4k 60fps. 8k 60fps raw will be huge files and I dont see many using it on such a camera. Also not sure about 4k 120fps quality. Maybe different codecs work better than others in 4k 120? I hope its good enough. No more ibis wobble and supposedly better AF is huge atleast.
4K 60 and 120 Quality is much improved since you don’t need Canon Log anymore to have 10-Bit. So noise is a lot better. But I need to further test later.
Well done review David. I’m curious for your opinion as to why Canon allowed European reviewers to have the cameras for a full test - but not in North America ?
Afaik all had the same time with the Cameras. I decided to give a complete overview what is also possible in this short time. Maybe I used it better then others but it’s not a full review at all! Like I said I had it for 13h at this Event.
@@davision-en It’s not a biggie - but it seems they (Americans) only had it for a few hours in Arizona. There seems to be a big point of contradicting statements out of different Canon official sources as to whether 4K high quality will go above 30 fps.
@@tennissir1986 as I said, I have several Press Releases and even Spec Sheets and a presentation in my Hands that are Confident and still have the Information about 4K 60 Fine HQ Mode oversampled from 8K, but the Cameras we had and the Press Release and Information on Release day say otherwise. I would really hope for it to come.
I just had the Camera for 13h and I recorded the Screen in German. If I would have had it longer I would have made this in english as well but I wasn't possible. I don't think it takes to much away from the Video.
No, I never record anything in Full HD and I strongly recommend most people to shoot 4K as well since it's in most cameras far superior. And for plattforms like youtube uploading anything less then 4K is pretty bad.
@@davision-en thanks for the reply, the only problem i need 1080 for long format events and events like 3 4 5 hours of video.. Its too much gb for 4k and i don't need the resolution.. I got r6ii and in 1080 its like a nokia 3310 sadly..
I don't feel the BSI is even needed. The original readout speed of the R5 was always fast enough to keep up with even very fast moving targets. I never had issues with it.
Hello, like everyone " oh no 4K 60p" well 120p isn't eather and personaly as not every framerate are oversampled I like canon move to display all in non oversampled mode, so better rolling shutter and you can match 120p with 24 or 100p with 25 shure it is not the best but for what I said I can'T complained. Because I have a B roll probleme of continuity on my Z8 and 60p oversampled well it overheat quick and I can't do a non oversample 24P roll so! So what you think about camera files name is yours, so don't bitch on that it is nice, few like you want there video to continu by the name of photos, and I think I know that it is better for the amera to separate the two. Have had bugs on my R3 that continuously got back to 959 and created many folders. At least here bugs wouldn't mess photo and video. And that's not because you forget to search all your files that the naming of the r5 II is bad mainly that you should care much, you can't stand to back up files on a large project or muchly a cheap product set that rely on multiple cameras, "Oh no I can't backup to many file structures for many cameras" just think of it seprate folders is better no matter what
I don't care about the same Naming Structure of the Photos, never mind, but saving every file into a different folder and a different subfolder depending on the codec you used will lead to missed files on Cards that can be easily overlooked and accidently formatted. If you have all your files in one Place, this will not happen.
