My wife hates the lid lock and can’t just lift lid and add something. Also can’t get water going into machine to top off the softener Reservoir. A magnet on the back holds the lid switch down. Now days you have re-engineer everything. Thanks for your video only had washer for two weeks and my wife HATES it. Told her I would over ride the lid switch and remove the lock. But thanks for post on TH-cam I go there every time to save me time, because someone has already been down my road. Thanks Again 👍👍
Wow, putting a little rubber washer in there was a great idea. I was using a little pen cap to flip it each time I wanted to use it, but this is like a permanent fix.
i believe the change it up slightly so it would be difficult to take it off. i saw one washer in display. i purchased it and will be here on sunday. ill see if i can do that
I know this is an old video, but we're getting a new TR7 next week. I have to ask. As far as the lid lock, can you just remove the lid lock from the lid, and keep it handy. Then when you want to use the machine just load it up, take the lid lock itself and push it into the latch and make the machine think everything is ok? That way if you ever need any service it would be easier to return the machine to normal to avoid any warranty questions.
I just got mine today and I ordered online separate lid lock to insert in the lid lock because I didn’t want to unscrew the one in the lid because that would void the warranty . on the back I used a very strong square 1 inch magnet to bypass the lid switch and it works great super easy
Thanks so much, this lid lock is driving me crazy lol. Just got mine yesterday! Did your washer have a funny smell inside the drum when you 1st got it? Almost like if you use it & let it sit with the door closes musty kind of smell...
@@ejdavis72 Great, thanks. I was under the impression that the switch in the back detected the lid was tilted closed and the front switch (sensor) detected the presence of the locking system normally attached to the lid (which was removed). I take delivery of mine tomorrow so it will make more sense when I see it in person. Great video 👍
Do you happen to know what to do if the lock mechanism falls out? Is there still a way to bypass the lid lock? The piece on the lid is still intact but the other part completely detached and fell into the machine (outside the basin). I imagine one of my family members tried to force the lid open and it finally broke loose. It now has standing water from a half washed load and I have no way to drain it. I also have a very cramped laundry room and no way to pull the washer out unless I completely remove the dryer out of the room. I am blindly trying to bypass the lid lock from behind the machine but I can't see what I am doing and after watching this video I'm not sure if it would do any good unless I can get to that fallen part. I called to have the washer serviced and it was going to cost $74 just for the part and then whatever it costs for the repair. I don't even want the lock, I just want my washer to work again. Any ideas?
There should just be two screws at the bottom of the front panel you can take out and then pull the panel off to gain access to the inside. Find the broken lock switch and you should be able to either shove something inside to bypass it as shown in the video or maybe a plastic ziptie would work or I have another video that shows how to bypass that front switch with a piece of hanger wire. You will need to get to the back of the machine to do the rear bypass also, it needs both front switch and rear switch bypassed in order to work. I hope this helps.
We have an autistic child who is enamored with soap and will drink it so we looked for detergent that would clean well in our TR7 and not seriously harm him if ingested. We are very happy with a brand available at our Kroger and Walgreens, . The brand is called "9 Elements" detergent. It is a natural vinegar powered detergent with nine ingredients only. We will give him water to drink and call his doctor; according to the label rather than call 911. It also happens to excellently clean, is competitively priced and works as a softener since it has vinegar as one of its nine ingredients. We spend zero money on softener. So what's not to like? It cleans even stains, leaves no scent on our wash, does not trigger mold, with biological ingredients found in commercial laundry detergent and it softens as well as any softer would and is budget friendly? Finally, I feel it is safer around children.
I dont have the TR7 but I use Dr Bronner's Sal Suds, I do a FULL wash with about 2 tablespoons of the Sal Suds, so the bottle lasts about 30+ loads I think I figured
We don’t use any obscure stuff like these comments. Truthfully, the machine is so good, we’ve found that even budget detergents work just fine. We purchased Sun liquid detergent for 5 bucks and wash our towels with them. They come out fresh and clean. We wash our clothes with Persil intense fresh and it’s wonderful.
I have never had an error code on mine but I bypassed all the "safety features" before I used it for the first time. If you have an issue with your washing machine you can call any repair shop who works on Speed Queen, give them the model #, serial number, date of purchase and they will take care of your warranty repair and deal with Speed Queen.

You're welcome!
If you have a ring doorbell, the torx that comes with it works perfectly for taking of the lid clip. Thanks!
My ring tool was too small, I wonder if it is a T20.
You’re doing the Lord’s work, my friend.
👍👍🤣🤣
OUT-FREAKING-STANDING! Thank you, good sir.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best solutions 😊😊
Thanks so much! Just got mine and I hate the lid lock
You're welcome! Enjoy that awesome machine!
Thanks . Only video on this topic that makes sence . Works on TR-5 as well . Thanks again
do you like your TR5?
I just got a tr7 and came straight to this video 🤣😭🤣
Do you just leave this bypas on at all times?

used my fingers. thank you!! my lid would not unlock.... now to figure out why it locked in the first place

Can you provide a link?
@@shawmeck9323for the old switch or the magnet? The lid switch is under parts on speedqueen website
Why are people using magnets, doesn't the clothespin method work on this machine?
Yes can you post link for magnet?
Amazing!! Thanks for this video. I used a section of a paper grocery bag for the back side lid bypass.
Anything to fill the gap 🤣🤣
Thank you!!!!! Lots of post vacation laundry and you saved the day.
You're welcome!
Instead of the rubber washer I just cut the point off of the latch so the door opens but latch still moves the switch. No problems so far.
Excellent!
My brand new Speed Queen commercial washer has no lid LOCK, just a shut off if the lid is opened, I disabled that
Thanks so much, this lid lock is driving me crazy lol. Just got mine yesterday! Did your washer have a funny smell inside the drum when you 1st got it? Almost like if you use it & let it sit with the door closes musty kind of smell...
So there is a sensor/switch that detects if the lock mechanism has been tampered with/removed? That's why you need to stuff something in that cavity?
No, it's to press a switch.

it should be cover by warranty. parts and labor
Stupid locks. Do that many people reach in a washing machine when it's on? Wth?
I followed your instructions but it still will not work for me, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong
Would this void the warranty?
I have to do this lol. Thanks
No because you can easily put everything back the way it was without any signs it was bypassed.
tampering with the switch/lid lock would void the warranty
Will the lid lock be disabled if you just cut the hook off the end of the lid part of the lock?
The washing machine will not work if you do that. You can cut the lock off if you want but you will still have to do both switch bypasses.
I wonder if it would be the same procedure in their regular top loaders
I'm sure it would be close to this, Speed Queen's are usually very easy to bypass.
for the regular ones, just bypass the switch in the back behind the panel.
Thank you!!!!
You are welcome!!
Thanks
You're welcome 👍
Did what you did but lid lock error came up and it will not work. Any suggestions?
Try pressing the switches further until the error stops and then you know which switch it is.
Cool thank you.
You're welcome!
How do I fix that?
We recently purchased the TR7 and can’t seem to get it right in regards to detergent. What detergent are you guys using? PLEASE HELP! Thank you
I use liquid detergent from Whole Foods called Organic Laundry Detergent. Works great.

🤣
You have to remove the clip if you want to bypass?
By clip I mean the little part that goes down into the lid lock switch hole in the top of the washer.
@@abntiffie2005 Yes or you have to remove the switch that the clip goes into.
@@ejdavis72 thanks you!! I figured after I sent that like uh duhhh if you don’t it won’t shut because it will be locked already lol! Thanks again!
Does anyone actually know what is causing the error lid lock code? Can it be fixed to work like it was intended?

@@ejdavis72 Thanks Eric
For some reason wheti did that It showed an error on the panel
What error does it show?
Just error and it won't start a cycle
@@josemares-sanchez9930 Did you put the rubber washer in the front lid switch and something in the rear of the washer to push the rear switch?
@@ejdavis72 yes
And when I tried to start a cycle it wouldn't start
This doesn't disable the lid lock, only the lid sensor. Misleading title.
