Evil Genius fans, we’ve been expecting you… not really, but we have got a burning question. The original game’s three Evil Geniuses are all as wicked as they are educationally accomplished, but the character you pick before embarking on a campaign to take over the world is more than a cosmetic choice. So which one is the best? Maximilian, Alexis or Shen Yu? To help discern one megalomaniac from another, we’ll be pitting them against each other in several different categories to find out which one’s the best. Or rather, which one is the best for you…

That would be awesome, but I'm not sure Shen Yu's get-up is kosher anymore; it's a bit too "yellow devil". Put him in a dangerously sharp suit with a mystical medalion around his neck and he'd fit right in!
I was certainly hoping for Lord Kane to return, either as a Henchman or as an Evil Genius in his own right. After all, he has the backstory to stand on, and his abilities would make him terrifying. Besides, his personalized Evil Lair would be a goth sight to behold.
Maybe as as DLC Genius.

Shen Yu. The lower heat generated made making... I mean stealing money in the world and achieving objectives easier, less time between dispatching teams and generally a very fast game. Lord Kane is a decent starting henchman and useful throughout (unlike Ivan and his insane rockets everywhere) and if you then get Jubei, you are set for the rest of the game.
... I guess that means I will be playing as Emma in the next game.

Maximillian is Austrian, not Bavarian. Mixing them will earn you a hearty laughter, and a swim through the piranha tanks.
btt: I found Alexis and her larger aura far better to keep minions loyal and attentive in the beginning when you have no or few pieces of loot.
Or Shen Yu for the long con since he has to deal with less enemy agents on average.
The science bonus from Maxi never seemed to work right, and since money is a limitless ressource, neglible.

In my view, Max is less the all around solid character, than he is the vanilla flavor. Nothing he does is particularly wild, and Jubei is a solid henchman for new players. But while that makes him sort of the 'default' choice for new and veteran players, I DON'T think that makes him the EASY choice.
Shen Yu is definitely a finesse choice, for people familiar with the game, and in their hands, he's going to perform fantastically, while newer players may not get as much out of his particular skill set. He will break Justice over his knee, if you understand how to play him, but he's not going to do it without your input, so new players may struggle.
The easy choice, in my view, and arguably best is Alexis. She's much more powerful in passive mode than the others thanks to her wide radius of influence, she's generally been better for me at keeping agents out of her hair in the first place as a result. And Eli is a phenomenal choice of henchman on world map AND in base, without needing to be particularly clever about how you deploy him. He's flexible enough that he can use force to keep you covered in the early game, or guile to keep you safe whenever. And whether you're early game or late, he's GREAT at getting you the cash to fund your operations. He's all around effective, where Jubei and Kane have more of a specialty (not that they aren't powerful in their own right.) As Alexis, I think a new player has the best odds of success, and and veteran player has the best spread of options overall (especially if they recruit Kane later on)

Now I do have a game with max because I currently plan on using him once nore in 2 but it's also tempting to go Ivan because hr was a hintchman. But a interesting idea for 2 is 4 Players world. Dom. Aka 4 super masterminds going for the world. But this is a quick idea.
Side notes A-side things for the review. But hm... Time to revolver the lacky.
There's one angle to the Henchmen that's important to consider, I think--their use in World Domination, which is where the scales balance.
Jubei is a monster on the base map, but his skills on the world map are alright in every category except protecting people. He's good at low-impact protection on high-risk missions, but beyond that is best suited to stay at the base and teleport around putting out fires.
Meanwhile, Eli, being the crime boss du jour, is better at stealing money from "justice" than any other Henchman on the roster, which can be very useful early on. Since his abilities are also pretty damn good, and he's the only ranged Henchman of the starting three (and honestly ranged Henchmen are relatively rare), it's a bit of a decision as to where to put him.
The REAL king on the World Map, though, is Kane. Excellent at plotting and no slouch at stealing either, Kane's real party piece you have to watch him in action to see. Being the master puppetmaster he is, Kane generates no Heat. Like, no, not any. I know his character block has a Heat stat, but I can assure you, I can stick him in an area and watch that Heat bar not move at all. This doesn't make him invincible, since patrolling agents and Super Agents can still kick him out like any other world map token, but it does mean that he can stay out there and keep getting work done even if you're needing to go low-profile to stop the infinite stream of Soldiers.
That's a really good point, and a big oversight on the comparison chart. I actually think it's enough to flip the standings around too. Generally, I think people view Shen Yu as the 'hard mode' or at least the 'I know what I'm doing' mode, with Max as the all around character for most purposes. But when you take their world map uses into consideration, I think ALEXIS is the all around character, and Shen Yu is more of a 'I'm going to break the early game' choice. You still need to know how to use him, but he's the guy who will always be ahead of the game if you do.
This. Also the combination of psychic terror with some stronger henchman hitting tough soldiers or a super agent is really useful.

Alexis every time, that insanely huge AOI is just too good to pass up, especially if you park your ass in the command room or a similar large room where you can slowly recovery ALL of your minions stats.
Gotta admit though, I did NOT know that you could gain infamy by being present during torture... Makes sense in hindsight though.
I will have control and torment next to one another oh and of course I will be there when I torment the supers into retirement.
I preferred maxi boi even if his ability became pointless thanks to the internet. Besides he gets jubei right at the start, getting to invest in his skills right away is important

I mean I didn't even think that much of strategy though having essentially a walking buff zone to make use of was nice and Eli is just so stylin'. I just liked the aesthetic.
Hoping so many returning characters mean we'll see her and Shen Yu come back in some way for the sequel.

Max has Jubei and Jubei is a human Cuisinart. No need for any other minion early on with him at your side. He can frappe any agent he encounters. For the super agents, the best choice is the Matriarch, but she is a mid-game character so...
Is it just me, or did Lord Kane strike anyone else as a former Evil Genius? Or even a man behind the maniac?

Unfourtunatley I own now an ultrawide screen, so it literally hurts my eyes to play in 4:3 format. So I left the game in the good nostalgic memories instead. Very hopeful for a 21:9 aspect from the second game.
I always liked Maximilian more,and recently in James Bond I discovered that Maximilian is basically Doctor No from the movie lol.
I wait for the new geniuses to have there spotlight videos...it's next month isn't it?
I always liked Alexis as a genius. Kind of a cross between Paris Hilton and Cruella DeVille. But Jubei and Lord Kane are so much better for me personally so it was always a tough decision to make.
Since they mention in other videos that another Genius did dominate the world I wonder if it is Shen Yu or Alexis. And either one hired Red Ivan and gave him a country for a bit.
Hopefully a mad scientist who makes zombies would appear as a dlc character

Well Max is a great all-rounder especially later in the game when things are always messy

A bug in the game - I passed the first island on a difficult level, I saved 36 million, on the second island the minion carried a suitcase with money and instead of the number of money there was an empty white strip and I had no money.
Who can be better than "Fasta. FASTA! fasta..."

Stop right there. In your video at 0:39 you are showing an unofficially modded EG game. Max's area of influence is nowhere near that large in non-modded EG. Max's AOI in the video is about double the non-modded area.

Jubei's Teleport is unmatched, but Barracuda is way cool. Lord Kane sucks.
I had to stop playing EG1 because the research bug (crash) came back and I can't fix it now. It happens every game on every character, even from fresh starts. Of course it happened on live stream so that just made it worse. Probably have to do a new fresh install again, or maybe just wait for EG2 if it's not too far off?
Sometimes you won't notice that a piece of lab equipment was destroyed while you were ordering research. Go to the lab before you order research. Also another possibility is between notes being taken on an object and research finishing on that object it might get stolen. I think that might cause a problem. I'm going to run some tests soon to test these ideas.
Lord Kane doesn't suck, he's a great plotter on the world map, he hits like a truck and Smooth Operator stunlocks super agents which allows you to defeat any of them without losing a single minion.
Kane doesn't suck but he's more situational and definitely inferior to the other two options. He's not as good in a fight as the other two but he can more or less paralyze someone at global range with smooth operator and can even do it over and over. It's a bug but honestly considering he's more or less the worst henchmen out of ALL of them without this bug? And on top of the fact Jubei has teleport as it is? I'm okay with it. Being good on the world map is nice, but honestly, I'd rather have more control at home and send more minions out.

I AM THE GREATEST GENIUS!
For I modded the game and gave my Genius's huge aura sizes that improved all 5 stats, all had big execution bonuses, and I switched the starting henchman for Max and Shen. So that my preferred Shen started off with the Glorious Slashy Stabby Boy!
