In the book the Last Don, Cross leaves the family business. He sells his shares of the Xanadu hotel and moves permanently to be with Athena. He had his way out. They should've had 2-4 kids, a happy Bethany and out. This movie, while it has a cute plot and good acting, it betrays the real ending. Don Clericuzio achieved what other Dons had failed. He had become completely legitimate. One son in restaurants, another in construction, and the final in Wall Street. Even the Bronx Enclave would dissolve. I feel like they saw a chance to make money and went with it. Good job, but not what the author wrote.
Good movie Parts 1&2. Always a fan of Jason Gedrick. Good actor, very handsome and underrated. A very young Jason in "Iron Eagle" (as Doug Masters) with Louis Gossett Jr. Would like to see other movies with Jason Gedrick. ❤😊
I thought Kirstie did a really good job here but at 14:46 when she's strangling the hell out of her dead father then immediately crosses herself and apologizes to the priest..I saw an almost Rebecca Howe moment in there in part because of the speed in which she flip flopped. I had to laugh. Miss and love you Kirstie Alley. ♥
I have been watching True Mob history, Frank Costello, Al Capone. There was not so many killings in real life, they were just busjnessmen. Fascinating, streaming some channel
Felt so sorry for Rose lost her love of her life and then the best thing that ever happened to her was the priest and then Jojo had to mess that all up for her damnnnn!!
She should have ran away with her husband. They should have gotten married in a different country. Cross shouldn't have told his family about France. However, Cross saved his family.
Jason Isaacs as Father Luca would give a brilliant performance two years later in the film The Patriot as the evil Colonel Tavington opposite Mel Gibson .
I love the culture- had the privilege and honor to be stationed over in Naples, Italy for 3.5 years. I loved it, especially the cuisine. My favorite- spaghetti and clams.
@lonald, I am not quite sure what you are referring to, but, off the top my head, I cannot think of anything. What stands out to me when he told Cross that there was no informer, personally, I think he knew that there was and who it was or would be- Dante. However, I think that he said that to allow things to manifest. If there was no "legitimate reason", he knew Dante couldn't rightfully be killed but had to be. Remember what he says at the end about Dante, Pippi, and a die being cast. Pippi's death was the legitimate reason. In other words, the don sacrificed Pippi for the overall well-being and future of the family. This is what I think Pippi meant when he was tutoring Cross about trust in part 2. When he said you can't trust the family. I think that he was referring to the don and Dante, especially the former. I think he told Cross the truth that he had no knowledge of Dante's planes insofar as exactness, but he knew Dante was ambitious, reckless, and that there was tension between Pippi and Dante. The don played that and, as he said at the end of part 1, "everything worked out according to my plans." Don Clericuzio and Don Corleone are definitely cut from the same cloth.
Had to be Billy. He was in plain sight and oh so close to the center of power. Also, according to Sicilian tradition, never let anybody in or close that isn't Siciliano.
Not a bad TV movie, even if there was a ludicrous happy ending for two murderers. I doubt if Mario Puzo would have written two murder scenes in a church. Neither would his version of the mob allow the murders of "civilians" - this was one of the guiding principles of the families in The Godfather.
BRILLIANT Superb acting from kirstie Alley especially no other could've played the part better and then Jason Gedrick Love James Wilder but he somehow always plays the bad character which he does well
According to Kirstie he was a bad guy. She had a 3 year relationship with him and he about broke her down. (James Wilder). She never names him but talks about him in her book and on her podcast. It's obvious she's talking about him.
I have never seen the Last Don part 2, but there was a previous scene before Cross' Sicilian hit man left the prison/jail that gave this strong inclination that it might be Billy. In my mind, he wants to decimate the Clericuzio leadership, have the Clericuzio weaken the other families, and when he made his big move, no one had the power to resist him.
