    I had a flush of close to 75 birds (30+ roosters) in Delaware county, Iowa, back in 1989 ! The birds actually came up in 3 different “waves” , and we dropped 7 roosters before they were all away. It was on opening weekend and we added two more to fill our limit for 3 hunters.. My cocker spaniel found 2 birds that had crawled into thick, heavy grass to hide, otherwise we marked and found the others. I can still picture that amazing flush yet today, and I never had another experience close to that in my hunting days. I am 74 years old and have bagged 649 roosters since I dropped my 1st bird in 1968. Keep a hunting diary if you have time - my diary of past hunts is priceless ! R. G. Hoekstra, Manchester, IA

    Something about watching a dog work to find birds to me is just absolutely amazing! As much as I loved small game hunting, almost more then deer hunting I’d be happy walking without a gun and watching the dogs work….

    Love watching Tubs work, when he brings you the bird you pet him twice and his expression is like " Yaa yaa boss, ain't no big thing, let's get another". I've watched several of your videos and he's a fine hunting companion. True team player. I hope my next dog gets to his level. Your spirit with your dogs is infectious.

    I was hunting Iowa and and had a similar flush. I shot twice, reloaded, and shot two more times, meanwhile a there is steady stream of birds flushing....that was an evening hunt. I went back to the same spot the next morning and no more than 100 yards from that exact location, I got the same type of flush again. It was awesome.

    Excpt when it’s too hot, how long do you keep your dog hunting before switching them out?

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of factors. Type of hunt, condition of the dog, ground to be covered, etc. If I’m hunting a place where we can switch dogs often, then maybe 2 hours or so. Other hunts require death marches of 6+ hours sometimes.

    Big flush but bad results, damn 😳

  • @VersatileHunter
    @VersatileHunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    That was tough to watch. Since when does a dog on point take precedence over recovering a downed bird. When you thought that dog was on point and the bird was in the creek, you should have sacrificed that “point” and called in the dog to recourse rooster. Second, dog stopping and eating game instead of finding you and delivering? WOW! Then there’s Tubs the flusher, running in on birds whenever people or dogs get to close to “HIS” bird. Lastly, how was that creek gonna be to much for the old dog to handle. That was nothing. Another bird without even an attempted recovery. This is all very poor sportsmanship, dog handling/training and really, more about blasting birds than anything else.

    • @VersatileHunter
      @VersatileHunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mattstencel4302 I don’t need to be jealous. I have well trained dogs and the best hunting in the world. Call me a loser once you can prove it. I’m all for great hunting videos and know that nothing is ever perfect, BUT. Putting finding birds to shoot above recovery of shot birds is asinine. Also, dogs that eat game rather than bring it back to the handler are a liability and should not be hunted if they behave that way.

    @kylebobinet3017 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Really, nice hunting, but extremely poor sportsmanship. There’s a difference. Just get the boots a little wet and be a man. Retrieve your bird. You already had killed your legal limit and can warm up in truck, and even pick up your third bird before your dog consumed it. Then just go ahead and kill a fourth one illegally after your poor judgment. Please clean up your sportsmanship before being a bad example to all as a grown man who should definitely know better
