- I had to test out some new markers on a playmat, so I did a drawing of a Sliver from Magic: the Gathering. First I did a pencil drawing directly on the playmat. I then used a black sharpie marker to do the ink drawing. Then I used Prismacolor Premier dual-sided markers for coloring and blending. Visit my website at www.jeffmiracola.com for more art.

Thanks, I appreciate that. The trick is to just draw all the time. You get better just by doing it over and over again.
Yes, Don't spend too much time watching my videos. Get away from the screen and draw, draw, draw. Drawing will be the bases for everything you create. Observe life, draw life. Oh, and did I mention you should draw a lot? Yeah, draw a lot :-)
How do you protect the colors from bleeding in wash?
and what kind of markers do you use for the color?
sir all i have to say is you are a very big inspriration and you have major talent that mat is just amazing
This playmat was actually auctioned off to raise money for a fellow Magic: the Gathering artist who is struggling with some major medical issues. But I've done many commissions like this anywhere from $150 - $500 depending on how complex it is. This playmat would be in the $150 range.
Sharpie markers are what I used in this playmat drawing, so yes you could use them. But you don't want to draw too slowly or the ink could bleed more than you want it to. I used both a thick and thin sharpie (for details). Also, I learned with this drawing that I shouldn't add too much black line detail before adding the color because the color markers wash out the black line work a bit. I had to go over the black line work after I did the color to darken it up again.
My original drawings on playmats can go from $150 - $500 depending on the complexity or whether it is in full color. Minimum is $150 though. If you are still interested, PM me. thanks.
Love it! Reminds me of 70's Heavy Metal magazine french artist Philippe Druillet
For those who don't know what he drew, well it's a Magic the Gathering creature called a Sliver. Personally my most favorite creature type! Awesome job too!
Insane. Thank you for sharing your unbelievable talent with us.
this is like one of the most awesome playmats i have ever seen.
very very nice.
Beautiful ode to an extinct species. The true slivers will be missed. Also, I love the blending, it's really impressive to watch art take shape in layers with the time lapse.
My GOD.......beautiful .... congratulation
incredible work
Extremely Cool! Love your lines.
My boyfriend would love this for the sliver deck he made way back.
wow bro, i really respect that talent. really wish i could draw half that good.
that is some awsome drawing man, respect! the person that disliked this video must've been trolling!
Beautiful.
I have another video I'll be posting soon. It's another M:TG mat though. But I'll definitely post others. Thanks for digging my work :-)
Simply AMAZING thats all i can say
You are the best. Amazing job!
They are white on one side and black rubber like material on the back side. I order them off of Amazon. Just go there and do a search for white playmats. They are around $8-$10 each.
Man, I want to be a concept artist so bad, I'm going to college in the fall, this is super inspiring.
just amazing . . . .
I used Sharpie brand markers to draw on this playmat. First a pencil for a light drawing, then black Sharpie marker for the outlines, then colored Sharpie markers for the coloring.
Yes, I do. When I did this drawing, I didn't have all the colors I needed with my Copic markers so I used the Prismacolor. And I didn't want to mix the Prismacolor with Copic, so I just used the one brand. You want me to create a playmat video using Copic markers? I can do that.
This is great artwork man! Keep it up!
Thanks. It took about 8 - 10 hours to complete, but it was worked on a few hours one day, a few the next and so on.
wow !
great work man
wow... its hard to believe that not a print :D
Watched the first minute of this video and decided I wanted to do one myself.
Your sliver-mats aint got a chance against my glorious Goat-token mat! ;D
Still alot to learn with colouring and etc, but this video and description was very helpfull. Thanks for the inspiration!
Amazing talent you are! :D
Love it!! Thank you for the "closeups" I saw why youre so good :) /R
very nice!
Thanks. Glad you dig it.
very good!!!!!!!
THIS T'WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!
Amazing ^^
Sick!
I am a Magic: the Gathering artist :-)
Wow...
Ofcourse I would. If you want a custom playmat, just email at jeff(at)jeffmiracola(dot)com and let me know what you want. I'll then give you a price quote.
3:45 black jumper 3:55 blue t-shirt
Nice!
Hey Jeff ... I'm your new fan ^^
Awesome work, man!
Did the playmat hold the ink well?
I want to do some experimentation but I'm scared that the ink will fade away after playing for a while.
Thanks!
I used either Final Cut Pro or Adobe After Effects for the video work on this.
I love the art on Nausea :)
I subbed awsome work
@beybladeryugiohpro I haven't used those pens for playmat drawings. They are quite small and detailed. I'm sure they can be used. Again, you'll have to experiment though. If you mix different black markers on the same surface, you may notice a slight difference in the blacks. Black ink from one brand might be a more reddish black, while another brand might be bluefish black. So look for that if you mix sharpie brand and micron brand on the playmat.
why don't you be a magic card designer? awesome artwork!
Inspiring video, can't wait to try! What do you recommend in terms of practicing with the markers in order to start coloring mats?
Really cool 잘그리네
I LOVE this creation and you are an incredible artist! I was wondering if you seal them with something to protect cards from pulling the ink when used as a playmat, or if it bonds to the fabric so well that there are no surface issues. Thoughts?
I just create custom, one-of-a-kind playmats for fans of my art. I don't get them printed in large quantities. I'm sure there are plenty of places online that can print custom playmates for you though.
Amazing work! WOW! What kind of markers do you use for coloring?
This is great! How did the Prismas hold up on the mat? Did it kill the pens being so absorbent?
FANTASTIC WORK ! AUTO-SUB ! YOU´RE MY DRAWING HERO :D
And yes i can use the capslock :D
im a fan
Your paints are awesome!
do you use references for your paintings? did this one use a reference?
This may sound silly but I am new to this. Do you need to do anything to the mat besides let it dry before using as a playmat and what is the material/pens you're using? Thanks and I look forward to checking out more videos :)
Pretty amazing. Roughly how long did it take you to do this?
where did u get the playmat?
I'm not sure you would be able to actually draw onto the mat itself with the watercolor pencils. Not without a lot of really hard work and stretching the playmat to tighten up the surface. The pencils are too waxy and the color wouldn't stick. The playmat is a rubber-backed fabric, so fabric paints might work well. I haven't tried that yet myself, but in theory it should work. The markers are good, but they do occasionally bleed.
Incrível cara. voce usou EVA?
Who did the background music for this video? Also, great work man. Keep it up.
With what do you draw on the play mat? or how would you color it?
Is there something I can spray or add to it to make the mat cleanable? or Washable? Just in case something spills?
Do you put anithing on after colloring it to help keep it like that
OMG! That was beautiful! If someone pays you, would you be able to draw a custom mat for them? :D
Do you think watercolor pencils with a colorless blender marker to color the mat and use a fixative on top would work?
Great work, what is the song? it's great! I could listen to it all day.
do those markers blend as well as the video shows? or is that all you? im working on Ravana splash art from FF14 on a playmat and the wings alone are really sensitive and dont want any actual visible edges. was curious if its the magic of the prismacolor markers or if its your technique.
Wicked! man colour! does anyone know the name of the track playing?
Love the art work. A great piece of work. Will the Prismacolor Premier dual-sided marker last long on the playmat.? Will the paint be bother or destroy if the mat is rolled up???
I've got playmats that I've made with the dual markers years ago and they still look great. Rolling it up will do nothing to destroy the art at all.
What kind of marker did you use to colour the piece in?
What brand of markers do you use when doing color ?
What kind of coating would you put on this to protect the colors if you wanted to use it as a play mat? Great work btw
Clear coat I guess?
*.* THE BEST
Would it get ruined if you machine wash it?
I'm not sure if you still do these playmat commissions, Jeff, but if you do I'd suggest using some other brand of fineliner- Copic or Micron, maybe, because Sharpie are alcohol based just like Prismacolor markers, and therefore blend and bleed when you try to color over your lines as if you had done them in one of your Prismacolors. :)
Zoe, I do still do playmat commissions usually during events. I almost always draw, then color, then do the black linework last. If you do it in this order, the black lines do not bleed :-) I even don't get that much bleeding if I do the black linework first and let that sit for a few days. Or even seal it with scotch guard. Thanks.
Sound name pls!
Where do you get all your ideas from? I couldn't think up a creature like this in my wildest dreams. So cool...😊
+Kim Jolly I've wondered this myself. I've been drawing crazy stuff like this since I was a kid. I grew up looking at a lot of comic books and fantasy art books. Gotta be that :-) Thanks.
Kim Jolly read his descriptions... the creature is a sliver from MTG
where do you get the paper or where do you draw it??????
It's not paper. It's a blank playmat. White fabric on one side, black rubber on the back.
kool
What material is the actual mat?
Do you have any good advice to us young aspiring artists?
Do you need to spray a playmat with any kind of clear coat to protect the image once you're finished?
I've heard you can spray it with a product called Scotch Guard, but I have never gotten around to trying that yet. I have never coated any of the playmats I've ever made. They seem to hold up pretty well though.
Where did you get a blank playmat?
Anyone know the name of the music he used in the video?
Sir what software you use for time lapsing
What does something like this cost?
3:45 night 3:55 morning
I know this is an old video but I must ask what markers did you used? And what marker did you use for the outline ?
I used a regular black sharpie for the black outline. The color was done with Prismacolor markers.
@@jeffmiracolaartist thank you
Brooooo!!! What type of markers do you use?! Just sharpies?
Sharpies and Prismacolor markers for this one. Thanks, Bro!!
What about drawing? Do you recommend Drawing? ;)
Is there a way I could buy one off you?..
What price would you sell this piece for?
