  • Lately, I've been experimenting with sponged long pimples to play attacking game close to the table. I started with the Ilius B (1.3 mm), as Butterfly has developed this rubber for the same purpose. According to Victas, Curl P5V (1.0 mm) is also suitable for close to the table game. But I also tried Curl P1V (1.5 mm), because Albert Vilardell (a Spanish player playing in Germany) play with it.
I the current video I have played with the Victas Curl P5V, but you can find my videos with the other two rubbers in my channel.
I used Butterfly Timo Boll CAF (Koto outer ply) with all three rubbers.
    My experience is:
Blocking: Ilius B is better than other two, then P5V and then P1V.
Pushing with under spin: P1 is better than other two. Ilius B and P5 are relatively same.
Aggressive pushing: here I think Ilius B is better then P5 and then P1.
Chopping: P1 is the best and creates a lot of spin. I think P5 offers better control than Ilius B for chopping.
Attacking with a loop motion: P1 is better due to higher ability to generate its own spin. Then Ilius B and then P5.
Pimple effect: Ilius B is the best in my opinion. Followed by P5 and then P1.
A side note is that, as Butterfly has also suggested, my feeling is that Ilius B plays even better on Limba blades.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know in the comments if I missed anything.

Amazing "wow" style of modern defending game. What long pips rubber is the most favorite for you at the end? Any additional comments to ILIUS B performance? I was planning to try such butterfly pips out on my innerforce zlc blade (may look weird, anyway that is my deffencive blade ))), but do not see comments from anyone using 0.5mm. I do not want to go with any other thickness as 0.5mm was my favorite on other rubbers through the years. What is your opinion of 0.5mm . Would you recommend ILIUS B 0.5 from your prospective? For classic deffence away from the table, but periodically mixing with chopping and pushing

      Thank you!
I really like the Ilius. I've played Ilius B with all sponge thickness' and I think it's a very nice rubber.
According to the Butterfly, Innerforce ZLC is a suitable blade for Ilius B - but it's recommended to play close to the table. If you're more like a chopper, then Ilius S would be a better option for you. It also provides more stability and consistency than Ilius B.
In general, I also think that 0.5 thickness is very versatile and works good for any LP stroke.

I've been watching several of your videos. You have very, very good forehand topspin. You have to relax your arm on the backhand, enjoy the chop more. I think that - unless you have serious leg problems - if you train to get used to being more active with your legs, you could very well play almost exclusively on the forehand and define most of your points that way. What will help you a lot to reach all the balls is the length of your legs. I think you have much more to offer the sport.

Thank you so much for watching and your supportive comment!
I do have some feet problem that is influential. But I'm working on the leg muscles to partially compensate for that problem.
I agree with you about the arm! Should work on that as well.
