    the camera shaking with the force of the music is pretty amazing, and gives you a glimpse into just how powerful an organ is in person.

    First time hearing Rachmaninoff. For me this is what a pipe organ is all about - those dark, powerful minor chords, the reverb off the cathedral walls and ceiling, the complexity of the instrument, that somber, medieval tone.

    I listen to almost every available rendition of Rachmanioff's Prelude in C-sharp minor on piano because it belongs to my favorite pieces in classic music, this one performed on organ however knocks me off my heels. Thanks for sharing

    The organ is perhaps the best (for sure the most impressive) instrument out there. There is nothing quite like the sound of a pipe organ singing and filling a church. (Or theater... based on location of the instrument.) I am really quite glad to be a student of such a piece of architecture!!!

  • @denekaraus8592

    Well transcribed and very well played....what is lost on the organ is the wonderful shaping which can be accomplished on each three-chord grouping, and then a decrescendo on the long descending run of chords. Pianists love to play this with all the heart they can muster.

      Folk music, tambourines, guitars - so beloved of clergy since the 1960s particularly, who want to look cool with the young - have a lot to answer for.....................banging a tambourine and strumming three chords on a guitar doesn't take much work or musicality - that's the fashion now - give a moment's thought to organists who have studied the instrument for many years to play the most outstanding music - only to be pushed aside to make way for happy-clappy etc..... a sad and lazy world......

    • @Pipe-organ-recordings
      @Pipe-organ-recordings  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Duncan Middleton it is profound how people are moved by musicians who seriously prepare excellent music in church. People are also moved when the clergy seriously prepare their sermons. But many people are too lazy prepare and just wing it. This is not lost on the people.

    From others records, the transcription for organ of Rachmaninov 's Prélude was due to Louis Vierne, organist of Notre Dame cathedral of Paris ; the présent transcription seems to be the same...as that from Louis Vierne ; would Louis Robillard had modify , or adapt the original transcription ? Many thanks , Loreto Aramendi, for this very pleasant performance. (sorry for possibly errors in the language of Shakespeare...)

    I'm a great fan of the organ played a bit many years ago, but I'm not really a fan of music transcribed for the organ like this one which is a piano piece, I just think there is so much great music for the organ, having said that this is exciting it almost makes me want to get the next flight to Buenos Aires where Loreto is playing on Sunday 21/8/2016. I assume this was a while ago as I was in New York last November and this is the old organ I think, wonderful photo inside when no one is there, The thing I don't like about St Patrick's is the people wandering around when the organist is playing its disrespectful.

    • @TheCinemasound
      @TheCinemasound 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ailsa Rodrigues I didn't realise you had made a comment on this recording, but at the same time I thought you would like it, and glad you do. I share your thoughts about people making noises and the lack of respect shown by some. Respect and good manners are so important to me, two people may dislike each other intensely but if you have respect it can make the world of difference in a relationship.I don't normally like transcriptions but like you I think this one is wonderful.

    Rachmaninov conceived this piece for the piano, in my humble opinion, playing it on the organ is an arbitrary stretch. Expecially at the end, when on the piano we listen to a ppp, while on the organ there's a blatant fff.
