Some farms don’t kill the sturgeon now as they take so much time and resources to mature. They squeeze the roe out with a special massage technique and it comes out of the sturgeon’s hoo ha, then she goes on to live her fishy little life until she has produced more eggs and the process is repeated 🖤
I thought that was how it was always done, i was shocked to find out otherwise when they sliced that fish open alive. A lot of experienced goldfish owners do this if their fish gets blocked up, I guess that's why I thought otherwise to begin with

@@RSTales95I’d prefer if they didn’t kill the fish and instead squeezed out the eggs and let the female live to lay eggs again. I think they get less eggs (like 70% or something) but the fish doesn’t die.
Sturgeon fish is widely consumed. I highly doubt that they just waste the entire animal. Now not all countries are equal in conservation practices. Hence the beluga sturgeon becoming almost extinct. However, I believe that most companies now realize that without good conservation habits they will not have an industry left.
I understand the idea is weird to many. I wonder how many people on here that say people just buy it for status have ever tried it. I love it and I wouldn’t care who knew or didn’t know. This isn’t trout or even salmon roe. It tastes like little bubbles of liquid salted butter but even better.
Growing up, my family would harvest and cook the yellow and white roe from mullet. Today, they’re considered a delicacy and are very expensive. They won’t sell you the fish with the roe in it unless you want to pay extra. Ridiculous.
Raise the price of some weird shit to highest and call it a luxury, You will have rich arseholes buying that shit to feel secure for themselves that they're so special while some people struggle to feed their family. That's the world we live in
I wish they’d squeeze out the eggs and allow the female to lay eggs again. A little fewer eggs but the female lays again (I think they become mature around age 3?). I’d like to know if they also sell the killed sturgeon fish for consumption - it would be horrible for the fish to go to waste.
So the Row fish is the Mercedes of caviar. The other fish is the Lexus. They add activated charcoal and squid ink to give it the color of the Mercedes. They then package and sell it as the Mercedes 🤔. So, a Mercedes body on a Lexus chassis with a Mercedes price tag 🤔.
The fact that i see these (cavier) fish eggs in the fish itself and throw them away with their intestines makes me seem like a classless vintage person. I don't understand the hype in this fish eggs, honestly

They kill them because the eggs are extracted from the ovaries of the fish. In order to get the quantity of eggs needed, that means opening up the fish and scooping them out. There's no way to massage them out and also get enough eggs for sale. Capitalism over welfare, as usual.
