*_A lot of city docks like this were designed for trucks in the 1940`s, '50's & '60's. To redesign & reconstruct to accommodate today's trucks would cost too much & would take up more room than feasible so, as long as there are drivers like this, they won't correct the problems._*

It's very difficult, especially psychologically. I'm in school for it. And it takes a lot of practice, even after you get it, or else it comes and goes. We only learned straight and left angle. I fear the day I have to back in blind.

No body ever wants to get put in situations like that, but sometimes it happens especially OTR, new state-city you never what you’re gonna run into, I would avoid these spots any day also but the load must get delivered so wherever it is, that trailer needs to get to that doc

Then you your dispacter get into it and 9 times out of 10 you the driver going to say you shouldn't sent me to a tight place like that. Then your dispacter and safety going to tell you if you didn't feel comfortable trying to back in you shouldn't have done it. Now a preventable incident on your driving record. The moral of the story is if I don't feel comfortable doing it then im not.
My rule #1 when I was driving a truck was never blindsided back into a dock like this one.but there are times you have to and I always slide my TRL tandem all the way up I was a truck driver for over 27 years this guy is great

Lee Dunn Well 🤔, I started my 1st driving job in ‘71 (after 4 years in Marine Corps) for Sears delivering to 8 states out of Chicago for 3 years then moved to California and had several jobs before starting with big grocery distributor for the rest of my time. I retired 5 years ago at age 66 so my memory doesn’t have room for everything. But I still regularly have bad dreams about stressful events as though I’m still living it. 😣 Never have bad dreams about Vietnam, just truck driving. 🤷🏻♂️

I’ll tell you of a tight spot and it’s where I got my experience doing my blind side backing there would pick up there three times a month in Harrison NJ at the bread 🍞 plant . Now that is a tight spot way way more narrow than this st and obstacles in the way as well if drivers on here know where I’m talking about say I’m lien yeah that’s a hellava backing.

I know these team drivers in 1993. Some European drivers. They had this big long Pete. When they pulled up to the warehouse the passenger would open the back door and walk in to check in. The other guy would blind side into any door available. Place used to have columns like that to no room in front and other trucks crowded around. Usually one shot. All I used to hear is him adjusting his motor mirrors. True professionals. No spotter needed. It was very impressive
There is a way to back up successfully without using any spotters It’s called “get out and look” and it will take much longer to get it in. But you’re a great back-er if you back it in without hitting anything.
This happened to me one time in Coatsville Pennsylvania but it was on a road with woods on both sides. Fortunately I had 2 polite people guide me backwards for about a mile. I made it unscathed but I feel this driver's pain!!

As a formar driver, l witnessed a young man stop in front of my truck, he ran inside the warehouse, came out, started the truck, jacked knife that 53" right next to me and the ramp to enter the warehouse, l would never! I was impressed.
REALLY 5 minute delay caused by trucker backing his rig, if Yu not 15 min early to work then Yu are late dude & it's for situations like this or traffic, construction, accident, ect. that it's best to be 15 min early but yea if anyone was late few minutes well they cutting it very close, JUS BE GLAD IT WAS A PRO & WASN'T A NEW DRIVER, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A 30MIN-1HR DELAY EASILY IF DRIVER DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING, (OR SWIFT DRIVER😂🤣) JK I got respect for all truck drivers they make our lives easier by keeping stores stocked up & making sure Chevron, Arco,Shell, Exxon are full of fuel for everyone that DNT have a Tesla or Prius.👍👍
I've been to places even worst than this in downtown Boston, MA. You have in extreme cases to take a street THE WRONG WAY for a street block, but then, you won't need to back in blind sided. No need for 2-3 helpers, but you have to be there 5am sharp, before traffic ! Then... BACKUP ! ONE SHOT !
People what you just saw is impossible feat being performed. This is something only those truckers can pull off who are above 99 percentile in skill. Not just experience but skill. I truly am fortunate to witness it.

You have in extreme cases to take a street THE WRONG WAY for a street block, but then, you won't need to back in blind sided.
No need for 2-3 helpers, but you have to be there 5am sharp, before traffic !
Then... BACKUP ! ONE SHOT !

People what you just saw is impossible feat being performed. This is something only those truckers can pull off who are above 99 percentile in skill. Not just experience but skill. I truly am fortunate to witness it.
