Pro tip: Always switch to your melee weapon before you end a character's turn. Having a ranged weapon equipped does not impose the Threatened condition on the enemy, and enemies are free to move around you without provoking attacks of opportunity.
Has anyone figured out how to do this on controller? also how to switch from attacking with both weapons to just attacking with one at a time on controller?
Those locked chests, that are very heavy... Throw from great heights to kill people, and it will break open the chest and allow you to get the items inside as well.
This is a bit cheeky, but if you manually group your caracters really close to each other and throw a potion under your feet instead of drinking it, multiple characters will get the benefit of the potion.
That's not cheeky, that's by design and smart use of the mechnics. and FYI multiple characters get the FULL benefit of the potion not a reduced amount.
It can be tough to group them all super close and find a clear spot to throw it and get them all in it. What's easier is if you drop a potion on the ground, group everyone around it in a little square and then attack the potion. Then you don't have to worry about not getting everyone in it or struggling to find a clear little spot to throw it
I'm so out of my element with this game I've been binging every "guide/tips/wish i knew" video I can find - this is one of the first that actually has helpful info.
Same here! The only d&d style game close to this I ever really got into and played heavily was Neverwinter Nights. It used quite a lot of dice roll mechanics but they were all auto rolled and didn't stop the game or anything. It had no turn based element. I hated the original Baldur's Gate games because of the having to select party members and formation stuff. The party control in bg3 is great now though
Yes!!! Same!!! This video is 9 months old, and I'm so glad I found it! I, too, am so far out of my league with this game. It's the first time I have played a DnD game, and I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about the gameplay. Literally NOTHING! I was gifted this game a little over a week ago (mothers day 2024), and I've restarted it 6 times. After each attempt, I searched for tips and explanations as to how to approach this game. All the many many MANY videos I've watched I have only found a handful of helpful tips, I think... I'll find out as I play. This video is a GEM among the dirt clods I've watched. Thank you! Although I'm am no closer to figuring out certain aspects of the game, (Let's start with character and combat set up and understanding the terminology - like "not enough resources" ) I at least feel some hope right now, that I might eventually get the answers I need to settle into a game and go. Thank you for your great video. Now, I'm going to see if you have any others regarding BG3 and how to play.
If you have Scratch the dog in your camp. You then get a summon outside of camp to summon him and he will then be able to find buried loot without needing to pass a perception check. Note, Scratch can be used in combat and can pick up charecters and attack. As he is a summon if he dies he is not permanently gone. EDIT: I've noticed Scratch pointing out spots to dig even if the party members don't roll perception checks. If you have a shovel and equip it and dig you'll find stuff.
i have not seen him do so, but i aslo have not had him out when i was in an instant where there were alot of traps to be had. so at this point im gonna say i dont believe so. @@ttuanmu
Tip: broken pieces of weapons and gear can be combined to reform very nice gear. Example: The spear tip from the Owl bear cave can be added to a broken shaft to form "Vision of the Absolute" a spear that blinds the target on a hit. Tip: loot and container inventory windows can be expanded to larger size. Tip: after clearing an area go do something else, but come back a second or even third time with fresh eyes. You will find all manner of things you missed. Tracks that lead to a cave. Wanted posters. Loose rocks with treasure under them. Etc. Im poking around in the blighted village for the upteenth time and just found a few more things I missed. Tip: stop, close your eyes and just listen in any area you are traveling. You can hear a number of things. Monsters, arguments, wild animals, and other audible clues of what is nearby. Tip: can't jump down a ledge without taking damage or can't get back up a cliff? Bring some empty crates from camp, stack them up and use them to change the drop. Kind of cheese, but your only solution in some cases with out a spell, skill, or working ropes. Tip: from the previous tip you can collect empty crates, barrels, and vases into your inventory and send them to camp. Use them to organize things or build silly sized towers of stacked crates to get to impossoble locations. Tip: jump like a bunny in combat. Walking through mud, acid, water, and fire all has penalties in combat. Jump to high and dry places and avoid penalties and damage. Some boots give you a free bonus jump after a dash so you can cover some far distances. Tip: you can pick up corpses and put them into inventory. Take someone back to camp for a rez or just make big piles as a warning. I don't think there is an alert mechanic in the game so hiding bodies this way doesn't seem to be part of the game.
For the hiding bodies mechanic, some enemies like the Death Shepherd's resurrect each other, so if you just remove the bodies it makes the fight a lot easier!
Adding to your jump thing a lot of characters can jump more than 3 meters so instead of running 9 meters run 5.9 and jump another 5-6 the amount of slippery enemies I've closed the distance too with this is uncountable
I surprise killed a roving guard in the goblin temple. Got him before he alerted. Another roamer walked by and "arrested" me for murder. Didn't try it again with picking up the body because I didn't know you could until much later.
@@boathousedave2383 No, he doesn't because at some point, which I'm not sure of the exact percentage, they take away your ability to jump. I think it's around the 60% mark of your total movement distance.
ALWAYS enter turn-based mode before attacking when out of combat. Your actions/bonus actions will refresh. Its basically an extra 4 attacks before the enemy. I had the bad habit of moving my charchters than attacking but than they dont have an action point when they enter combat. Now I always enter turn-based before attacking and get 2 attacks instead of 1
No matter how far they are from each other, your characters can exchange items from between their inventories- even in combat. It’s a free action, and it works well when you need a potion/antidote/scroll.
You might not have access to containers though (seems like sometimes I do, sometimes I don't), so keep all those consumables cluttering up your main inventory.
i delegate storage to team members. 1 carries all potions/elixirs, 1 carries all thrown weapons, lockpicker carries all poisons and arrows. and my mage carries all scrolls (in curious book of course!)
and even works when one is at camp, next to the camp stores, and the other is next to a trader. So when I find a trader I'll send one of the party back to the camp, and they can magically transport all the 'stuff to sell' to the companion who's going to be selling. If Asterion isn't in the party, I'll just send trapped/locked chests back to camp and get him to open them up before the next end of day (or sooner) if I won't want to wait.
You can pickup sacks and backpacks when you find them and use them for inventory management. Early game you can find two backpacks and one sack down on the beach
@@darinsingleton3553 still applies. sacks/pouches are .4 lbs backpacks are 2lbs. now that they ruined chest of the mundane I never use backpacks. before, I had a bag of bags in the chest so when I got encumbered I'd send my trashbag to camp and grab another from the chest. when I'm ready to sell I ungroup 1 member and send them to camp to throw my trashbags from storage to my CHA character who's standing at the vendor
The cantrip for guidance is really useful but i would also add that it is a concentration so the amulet has way more value than you would think. On Shadowheart if you use her guidance it will overwrite any other spell that is a concentration ending her previous spell if it has a full day duration. Pass Without Trace is a spell she gets at level 2 which gives a huge bonus to stealth which effects the full party, until you use a long camp. Its also a level 2 spell which you really dont want to be casting over and over. Putting this Guidance amulet on someone else more melee focused saves her using up all her spell slots.
I'm in my 60's and haven't played a D&D based game maybe since BG2, so this video is going to be really helpful for me. I might never have picked up some of these tricks that people know to think of through playing other games. I've watched a couple other BG3 videos from you and just wanted to say, Thank you!
Tip 1. Pick up Chest of the Mundane from Arcane tower in Underdark. It will compress your heavy items down to the weight of dishes and cups for later unpacking. It is arguably the best item in the game and you can get it relatively early. It can easily compress 600 weight down to 30, 20 being the chest. Tip 2. You can throw the Iron Flask with the Spectator inside and it will spawn a hostile lvl 5 boss. You can throw it into the group of enemies and they will start fightting each other. Personally I trivialised the grove siege with this, Spectator basically soloed most of the enemies before going down, while my party and the allies used ranged attacks. And the allies were smart enough to not shoot the Spectator. 0 casualties among friendly npcs. And you get the exp.
Never thought about it! I'm on my second gameplay, I avoided defending Grove exactly because I couldn't beat that amount of enemies, I'll use this strategy next time!
What happens when you pull stuff out of the chest of the mundane after you put it in, does it stay as dishes or will it change back into what you put in?
Used the Monster in the flask on the red orc chief in goblin castle, playing as a drow I became easily their ally, then posted my companion up the ceiling carpentry for ranged attacks, went with my rogue drow in front of the red orc, open the flask in front of him , monster in the flask even killed the spiders in the pit underneath, and as it killed the red orc I was able to spell speak undead on him ( for low value info). Took me 25 ish tries but felt like a true stratege deceitful rogue!
A tip I’d add specifically regarding combat against spellcasters: concentration spells are a huge part of magic combat, and letting enemies keep them going can lead to massive issues for your party. However, an enemy has to make a check to keep up the spell for every hit they take. If a cleric is running around with spirit guardians, it might be worth it to ignore other enemies until you break that concentration. Imo a great method for this is the magic missile spell. It hits anywhere from 3 to a whopping 8 times depending on how high of a level you cast it. While the idea of using your biggest spell on magic missile may seem wasteful, if your tank is going to be knocked out on their next turn due to a moonbeam or something, it might be wise to barrage the enemy mage to make them drop the spell and give your ally that one extra turn to potion up and go crazy.
To add to this magic missile is a level 1 spell that unerringly hits it's target, each missile dealing its damage discreetly. That means that if a spellcaster maintaining concentration is hit with 3 missiles, they will have to roll concentration 3 times.
On the topic of magic missile, it's also a great spell to use to finish off multiple enemies at once. I find that often times I'll have like 3 enemies at 2-5 HP and magic missile is great to knock them all off at once, particularly since it never misses.
highlighting enemies with tilde is nice, but when I learned you can hold Shift to see their sight cones that was a huge game changer, my rogue can get into a safe spot and hide no prob when I see exactly where I need to move!
My bit with the exploding barrels is to drop it close, put grease on it, and then plink the enemies and get out of LOS. They advance, trip in the grease by the barrel in a nice cluster. Then blow the barrel for a double explosion (barrel and grease) and a nicely clustered enemy group.
@@Masterchief12455 As rmonogue said, shooting them or doing anything mild to get their attention. Slang, maybe showing my age heh. But usually non lethal small action. Like shooting a tank with a rifle to get it to turn around so your buddy can hit it with a RPG from behind.
@@12tman12 That's where I've seen the word, the rock 'plink'ing off the knights armour to distract him as the Barbarian with a Maul rushes him from the other side, dodgeable if he wasn't distracted
Additional camping tip: Ctrl and Shift work the same as you'd expect for selecting multiple items. It is great for selecting all your camping supplies at once to send back to camp (on controller Right Trigger lets you pick multiple too).
-You can examine enemies or npcs by just hovering over them and pressing T -To use your character's weapon attack out of combat (to break down a door or sneak attack someone) you can just ctrl+click instead of clicking from your hotbar -when trying to sell everything (like I do) it saves a lot of time to ctrl or shift click all the items I want to sell and add them to wares, now when you are in a trade menu, hit the trade option at the top and a new option appears to sell all wares.
Also you can right click, pick up most barrels (smoke powder, oil, or firewine) and send them to camp straight from your inventory. Now they will be stowed in your chest at camp if you ever find a fight that's too difficult to take on with your power alone.
One thing that helped out my inventory management is picking up a pouch or backpack and using that to hold all my consumables, potions/scrolls/arrows. Unfortunately items won't automatically go there when you pick up more, but it creates an illusion of organization for me. You can even just add the pouch to the hotbar to use stuff easier
Yup, on my spellblade warlock I have a pouch full of scrolls, potions, and throwables on my hotbar. Makes it so much easier. Click the bag in the bar, it opens, pick what you want and you’re good to go.
i cheesed some bosses by stuffing bags with bombs and threw it at them. a teammate hitting it with a firebolt usually sets up a pretty big chain reaction of explosives for really solid burst damage
One thing I love the most about this game is the combat. It's the best combat I've ever played, because it's basically the same as D&D. Some truly epic stuff happens in battle sometimes that can completely change the course of an encounter. Or some epic fails that make you say "Noooooooo" out loud. Just like in D&D. I really hope this game gets GoTY. I want it to be as successful as possible so we get a BG4 in a couple years 😊
I've watched a lot of "things you should know" videos about this game and you are the first one to mention that you can dig up unsuccessful perception checks
A great early on spell is Sanctuary, when cast on a character, they dont get targeted by enemies, except aoe spash dmg. So if someone is low on hp and you cant heal them yet, cast Sanctuary to give them a breather, if a character needs to concentrate on a important spell, cast Sanctuary :) Shadowheart can choose the spell on lvl 3 I think
Do be careful who you start a combat with as some NPC could become your ally.. Was planning to take down 3 NPC in a ruined village and was scouting the location for sneak attack turns out you can convince them to play for you so do check if the npc's have a dialouge option by moving mouse above them before attacking i guess
One tip I wish I knew sooner is mage hand is god tier. It summons a creature in the form of a hand. It gets its own turn and can attack, interact and throw environmental objects, close doors and take aggro.
Thank you for making these videos. The only D&D style game I had played before was DA Origins, but even so, I got a bit overwhelmed by BG3. So these videos are really helping me understand the game and enjoy it a lot more. ☺
For the combat turn order, you can take turns out of order, so long as your characters are next to each other in the lineup. And you don't need to complete their turns before switching. So imagine the turn order looks like this: Asterion > Enemy1 > Shadowheart > Wyll > Enemy2. Asterion's turn plays out fully, then Enemy1 has it's turn, but now Shadowheart AND Wyll are active at the same time, so you can preform an action with one, switch to the other for an action, switch back again and do something else, etc. Enemy2 only gets its turn once End Turn has been pressed for both characters.
I'm still kinda mad that you can't have Astarion delay his turn until after the enemy has gone and have everyone act together, you can do that in D&D but they didn't transfer that over
My random tips: 1) "Add to Wares" marks it for selling at the next shopkeep NPC with 1 button. 2) If you have a lot of camping food, take the hint and long rest- The game is actually designed to have you camp more than you'll likely be inclined to, because that's when a lot of "interstitial plot events" and cutscenes happen, as well as connecting with your team NPC's. (I don't think this part was designed well, there should be a "fatigue" mechanic or something.) 3) Many of the powerful spells require "concentration" and there's 2 drawbacks to that- A party member can only "concentrate" on 1 spell at a time, and the "concentration" can be broken by being attacked, which triggers a roll against your Constitution. So don't drop CON too low on your characters whose Concentration you depend on. 4) An "of the land" Druid (Arctic background I think) gets the Haste spell (normally this is a Sorcerer/Wizard thing!). Moon druids (the ones with the better forms) do not. Haste spell is uber. The debuff after being Hasted (which basically incapacitates you) only lasts 1 round. But Haste lasts like 10 rounds, longer than the majority of fights. Druids get crappy cantrips, but are super versatile. Druids also have tons of life pool via forms- if your form goes to 0 life, you just pop back to your original form with whatever life it had, and you can then just pop another form. 5) Eldritch Knight fighter gets auto-returning thrown weapons. And a bunch of wizard spells which depend on INT if you need them to hit enemies (or just stick with the buffing spells and don't worry about INT). The smart ogre in the goblin camp drops an INT 17 necklace if you kill him that makes your INT 17, though... 6) Barbarians are more fun in this game than any other game I've played barbs in. "Enraged Throw" is great. And there are a LOT of conversation options and interactions which only show up if you're a Barb, which are hilarious. 7) 1 level of monk in Shadowheart and she can fight naked. ;)
Great tips without giving to much of the story out. Thanks. I start tomorrow at 9 am on PS5 and am excited. I've been playing D&D since 1977 and this is the game I've been waiting for my whole life.
you can throw potions at your team members to heal them. OR you can throw it on the ground for an AOE splash effect. Never throw it at an NPC (I had the hirable ogres get mad at me for that) and never throw good berries those will do damage (sorry Gale!)
A funny tip: If you open a door and it starts combat with enemies inside, you can stay in the doorway and at the end of each of your turns, close the door. Once you close it, enemies have to go to the door and open it before attacking. Gives you some times to get a few hits in (Note: mostly for ranged)
Thanks for the very clear information - with great examples as to 'why' to do (or not do) something. I am getting the game soon (get paid next week) and am trying to watch as many of these 'tips & tricks' videos as possible - and yours is one of the best I have found!
I knew that but never would have thought that you could fast travel from anywhere to a waypoint and not just waypoint-waypoint. Everyone is different and the video is a good guide of different tips, some more obvious than others, the Shift and Ctrl to select multiple items is really obvious to me but some players have never thought of it.
I keep running across people asking "How can I see which SKILLs I am proficient at?" Those are the ones in your character sheet with the white dot to the left of them.
A couple more pro tips, if you are turning undead you might want to put attacks of opportunity to 'ask' in your reactions tab. Same with everything that ends whatever condition you were trying to impose by attacking etc. Secondly, if you have some or all of your characters back to back in the initiative order, you get to pick who goes first. Very important if you want to move someone without provoking attacks who might be ahead visually in the initiative order. If at least two of your guys are back to back, you get to choose.
So one thing about the cantrip Guidance, it is a concentration spell. So if the character casting it is concentrating on something different, like a shield spell, you will lose the shield spell and need to cast it again. Now the shield spell will use a spell slot to cast, so having to recast the spell after every Guidance, will eat up the spell slots pretty fast.
About camping often, we've found that we bricked multiple quests by resting too often. The quest markers show up but there's no related journal entry and the NPCs aren't available and we never actually "started" the quests.
so i finally beat Divinity: Original Sin 2 (which was made by Larian Studios) on firts playthrough at 260 hrs of gameplay and after watching a couple of these “things i wish i knew before playing” videos for BG3, it’s shown me that they’re just things i do anyways in DOS2 so nice to know this game shouldn’t be too hard to figure out!
One thing I will say about the conversation dice checks is that failing one can really fuck you over, locking you out of really important side quests with no warning, which feels really really shitty as a player, doesn't help that for most games failing a check means you get nothing which has been ingrained deeply into the genre at this point, giving no incentive beyond RP to not reroll a failed check until it passes for most casual players.
Lucky I just want to say I'm always impressed by how much content you create for so many games, I don't know how you have the time to play them all thoroughly so you can give us this info, but your videos are always consistent and informative and I appreciate how much help they provide, thank you!
Another good tip i found... make a habit of Reading books.. Ive learned so much more about the game and world . they can advance quests, recipes and spells, show mob vulnerabilities, trigger cutscenes, hidden places, open doors.. books are the backbone of a good rich and more enjoyable BG3 playthrough
Thank you so much! I've only had the game two days, but it's blowing my mind how much there is to discover. I had to redo a dialogue exchange (game crash) and the second time around, I passed a background perception test that led to more sassy reply options lol. Crazy replayability potential.
Another tip I would definitely mention is the fact that if you have multiple characters in the same chunk of initiative (like you have Gale and Shadowheart in this example) you can actually choose to have Shadowheart go first, then Gale. This really comes in handy if you want Shadowheart to do a big AOE like Spirit Guardians, then have Gale clean up with Magic Missile. You can also have both perform their actions first, then move them independently. Can really come in handy when you want the enemy to use their reaction on an attack of opportunity on your tank instead of your squishy Thief. Also, moving a character in to threaten an enemy in melee first to give your Thief advantage for their sneak attack.
You can send locked chests to camp if you do t want the carry weight instead of keeping it on you. Also you can grab explosive/acid barrels and set them up before in battle to give you a better advantage.
a thing to think about for the initiatve bar ( 21:30 ) : if you can`t kill someone for sure before his turn, maybe focus on someone further down the line that you can. Getting the number of actions against you down quickly is nearly as improtant as focusiung on the high value target ( e.g. the fireball slinging enemy wizard)
Camping, take one of the camping backpacks off one of your companions and put it in your camps travelers chest. Now anytime you send food to camp, it'll automatically go into the chests camping backpack. Well..90 percent of the time.
Great tips! Regarding quicksave- here's a tip: UNBIND your quick _load_ key. Nobody needs to load that fast, and it is OH so easy to accidentally hit that F9 key. Sometimes, even when you're reaching to slap the quick _save_ ...and that is _such_ a nightmare. Also, when you can, use Disengage! That way your enemies don't get a free reaction attack on you!
good tip but no enemy can get a free reaction attack on you, it costs their reaction so it isn't free. also I didn't even know F9 was quickload, why have such a button??
Maybe commented on already in here somewhere, but in the attack lineup is if you have a couple or group of your characters connected, you can choose who attacks first (or mix and match). I.E. you have a heavy hitter coming up, but maybe you want to see if a weaker char can take out this enemy to save that big hit for a new/the next enemy, you can select between them, in addition to mixing actions between them - meaning, main action on one char, swap to a linked char to do a bonus action, then swap back, etc.
Thanks for the tips on looting and inventory management. I wish developers would add a click that loots everything mundane on screen and automatically sends it to "camp". Then you can use your filters to make management and distribution easier.
Pro tip: You can use the filtering option (upper left of screen on TAB view) to just show Camping Suppies. You can then SHIFT/CTRL+click and then send them all to camp.
On the quicksave thing... The one that kept getting me (I'm pretty good about saving after everything you mentioned), was not saving after doing a whole bunch of inventory management. Got bit by that a couple times.
These were actually really good tips. Exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to learn to play the game a little better with a little more strategy but not necessarily hack the game. Thanks!!
- After picking up a chest you can't lockpick, you can often send it to camp, and deal with it there. - In outnumbered situations, you can usually force the enemy to move through a chokepoint to get to you. That chokepoint is a great place for persistent AoE spells (e.g. fire wall) that damage them for being in or moving through that area. - I use F1-F4 to center the screen on a character.
A funny thing. In combat the icons at that the top were blocking my view of the enemy for the range characters. When I clicked on the enemy's icon at that top, I pleasantly found out I can hit the enemy that way too. 😅
Its likely already been said somewhere in these comments, but in the spirit of take a penny leave a penny. When in combat you will see the order of the players who will act next. Sometimes, your players will be groupwd by a small link icon between their images. This icon means that you can act with these two characters in any order you may wish. So, if the second character in yhe link has a spell you want cast on the first prior to the first acting, then just click on the second character's image first and cast yhe spell. Very helpful when one character is in yhe way of a large AOE attack and they simply need to get out of the way. 👍 Thanks for this video and to everyone for their great tips in the comments. 😀
There is another method to...ahem... "open" a locked chest. You pick it up in your bag, and in the first combat you toss it on an enemy. If you toss it from a high ground it may even break and it will do heavy damage to a small enemy. Then you can pick up the items from the ground later. This way you can use a locked chest as a "weapon" and open it too. Gotta love this game.
Pro tip: have fun however you like. This game has very little limitations. If you're not havint dun doing something a certain way, just find a way that matches your flair! Enjoy and take all the time you want!
I want to say, I don't usually waste the time to thumbs up (I mostly listen to videos like yours while driving, I'm not just an asshole I swear)... You are the first person to admit that alt does not show everything. You are the first person to specifically admit that fact, and not say "everything" shows up (literally every other TH-camr I've watched has said that exact word)... I appreciate the fact that you were actually throw enough to not only notice, but admit, that alt DOES NOT SHOW EVERYTHING. So even though I'm driving, I made it a point to go out of my way to hit thumbs up during a red light. You are awesome.
Quick one for you... You can find Pouches or Backpacks that you can put into your Inventory. You can equip each of your Party Members with one or two of these and then start using them to carry items you don't want to send back to Camp. For example, I have a Backpack where i have Asterion put all of poisons that I might use on his (or other Companion's) weapons. I have a Pouch for him where I store all of the Jewels. I have another where I store all of the special arrows. And so on... Yes, the weight doesn't change, but it definitely keeps your Inventory clean.
If you are short or do not want to waste lockpick on wood box , pick it up and drop from a good hight, box breaks , items on the ground , saved a lockpick.
Already off to a good start with that first tip about holding left click down, I will have to try that out tonight and see how it feels! By now I'd gotten used to clicking where I wanted to go and moving the camera around to survey the area but that may make it feel much smoother when traversing.
small tip, if you are low or just stingy about camping, dont forget there is partial long rest, no suppllies and restores half hp/spell slots specially useful on high difficulty
Instead of spamming the button on-screen for ranged attack while adventuring, you can press Ctrl and click objects instead and it will attempt an attack on it, so you can shoot random stuff to see if anything happens haha
Excellent video with some REALLY good tips there Lucky :) However I must point out that what you say about statuses showing underneath enemy healthbars applying to you is incorrect. They very much do apply to the actual enemy. You can see the statuses that apply to your own characters next to their portraits on the left hand side of the screen. Observe Gale at 16:00, he has the Threatened symbol next to his portrait at that point. At 16:03 once he's moved out of melee range, it's gone from his portrait again.
With the camping suplies what I do is when I found them in a chest or corpse I don't loot them, I send them right away to camp with right clicking on the camp suplies and send them to camp, so in a way you don't need to take them
Another combat order tip is to hover your mouse pointer over the turn based circle in the lower left of your screen. It will give you combat order status of your party only.
This video gave me the idea. If you want to buy stuff from a trader sell everything first until they are out of gold then give them stuff until the bar goes green and then buy things giving back the gold and sell less stuff for more profit. Future trips are even better.
In the arcane tower in the underdark is a chest of mundane. items put into the chest turn into mundane items till taken out. Aka heavy barrels turn into light weight spoons! only downside is it's hard to see what is what so put barrels top side of the chest and other items with a row between. now pick up every explosive barrel that you find! 1 more is the same tower. top level is a stool of giant strength. break it and take the item to give low strength players higher strength for that jump distance! Ungroup your party when scouting around. if your scout gets into combat the rest will still be hidden and able to move around. use this time to position everyone. Look at all your spells and look for the text untill long rest. use these spells before combat seeing it will be up 100% of the time. aka mage armor must be cast before combat. don't waste your turns! Shove is a great move! but don't use it to much if you want your loot! tho sometimes a large fall is enough chasme are 90% chance to lose all loot. ( little mis hag gave me 1500gold while i was tempted to just shove and move on ) Multiclass can be done from level 2. theres a button on the top section row you can click. ( i thought it was from level 6... ) Respeccing is possible! first area after the ship crashes is a temple / dungeon. there is a hidden room! GL finding it:D you can reset all your picks from class to chosen subspecs ect. You can throw healing items to hit multiple party members. or attack one on the ground for greater aoe range. you can range attack levers! :D speak with undead / speak with animals! use it allot and if it's from an item check if it's a cantrip aka unlimited use without resting! And lastly. without spoilers. check out the hole druid grove place before going on with the main questline. the spell will be cast and do what it's suppose to do! ( something for my second run )
considering you gonna hold ALT the whole game they might as well have just made items and bodies being highlighted by default all the time. Sounds like most of these could be easily solved without an extra action on your part but they've implemented it to make it appear as you have more options
Havent tried this to verify, but Im picking every burlap bag for making satchel charges for throwing - put alchemy bottle and a smoke powder grenade in their or more. Always have water to throw, puts you out if on fire. I dispersed a ghast stench cloud also.
Thanks for the video, leaned a few things. I remember when I started playing I didnt know how to rest or go to camp. I only ever made it to a camp once I encountered a portal again and happened to click it and click camp. Was 10 hours in before I realized there's a hotbar button to just travel right to it
One thing about destroying things. Sometimes an object wont be damaged by a spell like firebolt or magic missile, but the warlocks eldritch blast will do it.
All your consumables that you send to camp will be used from the chest even if it’s not on the person so definitely send all consumables to camp to free up space and weight
On my first I tried to never rest too, there are multiple characters telling you that you only had a week to get cured so it made sense not to camp. Ironically after realising you were never going to die from that I had Gale saying "I need a magic item or something terrible will happen" and thinking yeah right I've heard that before.
Larian has put in its own homebrew distance modifiers. They seem to favor half range or more for the best percentage but not over max rang necessarily. But I need to test it a bit more to totally confirm that.
There's a mod on Nexus that makes it so ALT does actually highlight everything. Wildly helpful to have, unless you actually enjoy wasting your time hovering over every single little place to find everything.....
On the waypoint fast travel, you can also click on any waypoint shown in the list and teleport to it, even if it's in another region! For so long I thought you could only teleport to waypoints within your current region, so I hauled myself around to get to the other region. Turns out, even though it doesn't change the map you can still click on the waypoint in another region and you'll teleport there. The names are self explanatory if you're paying attention.
Dear Lari and modders, please give us an option to disable the camera snapping and auto zooming out when making a ranged action in combat, and to disable the camera jumping to a character when I press F1 - F4. It should only jump to them when I double press it. Thank you!
I’m still waiting on the PS5 version but I’m going to completely trust the dice the entire game. No save scumming. I’m sure that’s going to lead to some things I don’t want to happen but I want the most authentic experience.
Spamming Guidance is something every cleric is familiar with. I actually compared how the game lets you use Guidance is almost like how one of our DMs let's it be used.
Avoid using the Auto camp supply selector tool without first checking what it's selecting. Some camp supplies also have healing properties and so are worth keeping aside for special occasions. The auto selector is quite indiscriminate in what it picks - I wised up to this when I caught it about to feed us the Owlbear Egg!

Awesome original insight!
God this game is so fucking cool!
Oh hell yeah! Thanks for the tip
If this works like DOS1 and 2, keep in mind some of the items you would normally get from opening the chest can get destroyed that way
@@gimpy1091It doesn't work like that
WHAT?!!!!!!! The Hold down the left mouse button and the camara follows while you move around just made my day. Thanks for that one.

@@TheOmegaXicor yes. That's what I meant.
@@janblahoslav5602 I thought as much but it wasn't quite clear.
It can be tough to group them all super close and find a clear spot to throw it and get them all in it. What's easier is if you drop a potion on the ground, group everyone around it in a little square and then attack the potion. Then you don't have to worry about not getting everyone in it or struggling to find a clear little spot to throw it
does this work with health potions?
Tip on the unlockable chest, you can send it to your camp from your inventory instead of carrying it and just unlock it there when you're ready 👍

I'm so out of my element with this game I've been binging every "guide/tips/wish i knew" video I can find - this is one of the first that actually has helpful info.
Hey that means a lot! I really try to come up with good stuff for you guys, and I know these videos are a dime a dozen! thanks!
Yeah like how to loot corpses and quicksave, I mean really? U people need a guide?
Can Scratch detect traps?
Ooh OK, I noticed he kept trying to lead me to a spot but I never found what he was taking me too. I should have dug.
i have not seen him do so, but i aslo have not had him out when i was in an instant where there were alot of traps to be had. so at this point im gonna say i dont believe so. @@ttuanmu
I’m glad he doesn’t die. Is have felt so bad if I wasn’t able to keep him safe and he stayed dead
You can summon him next to a downed character and he'll be able to help them up when his turn comes around.
@@patrickmaloney3091do you mean move 8.9 then jump?
@@boathousedave2383 No, he doesn't because at some point, which I'm not sure of the exact percentage, they take away your ability to jump. I think it's around the 60% mark of your total movement distance.
ALWAYS enter turn-based mode before attacking when out of combat. Your actions/bonus actions will refresh. Its basically an extra 4 attacks before the enemy. I had the bad habit of moving my charchters than attacking but than they dont have an action point when they enter combat. Now I always enter turn-based before attacking and get 2 attacks instead of 1
How do you enter turn based out of combat?
Shift space
@@aeriagloris4211left thumbstick
I think they fixed that in a patch. You almost always lose your green action now when you do that.
No matter how far they are from each other, your characters can exchange items from between their inventories- even in combat. It’s a free action, and it works well when you need a potion/antidote/scroll.
.. and specific arrows & grenades.
@@Viktoria_Thaelin that is bad when you change member of party.
You can pickup sacks and backpacks when you find them and use them for inventory management. Early game you can find two backpacks and one sack down on the beach
In EA, at least, sacks that you can pick up, have a fraction of the weight of backpacks - and the same inventory capabilities.
@@Viktoria_Thaelinwhy use anything at all and not just have your stuff on your person or whatever?
The cantrip for guidance is really useful but i would also add that it is a concentration so the amulet has way more value than you would think. On Shadowheart if you use her guidance it will overwrite any other spell that is a concentration ending her previous spell if it has a full day duration. Pass Without Trace is a spell she gets at level 2 which gives a huge bonus to stealth which effects the full party, until you use a long camp. Its also a level 2 spell which you really dont want to be casting over and over. Putting this Guidance amulet on someone else more melee focused saves her using up all her spell slots.
Kinda sucks that I let Gale consume it before I realized what it was :,(😢
I'm in my 60's and haven't played a D&D based game maybe since BG2, so this video is going to be really helpful for me.
Is the flask 1 use?
What happens when you pull stuff out of the chest of the mundane after you put it in, does it stay as dishes or will it change back into what you put in?
@@scottstewart3884they said weight like dishes. So, I belive, it doesn't actually turn into them.
@@sommmeguythey altered it to work against magic missile. It didn't always do that. But it existed long before it could block it.
I probably suck at Wizard builds, but I use high-level Magic Missile A LOT.
highlighting enemies with tilde is nice, but when I learned you can hold Shift to see their sight cones that was a huge game changer, my rogue can get into a safe spot and hide no prob when I see exactly where I need to move!

My bit with the exploding barrels is to drop it close, put grease on it, and then plink the enemies and get out of LOS. They advance, trip in the grease by the barrel in a nice cluster. Then blow the barrel for a double explosion (barrel and grease) and a nicely clustered enemy group.
What’s plink the enemy ?
Aggro (attack) them with a ranged attack to get them to move towards your explosive barrel and grease combo.
@@Masterchief12455 As rmonogue said, shooting them or doing anything mild to get their attention. Slang, maybe showing my age heh. But usually non lethal small action. Like shooting a tank with a rifle to get it to turn around so your buddy can hit it with a RPG from behind.

Additional camping tip: Ctrl and Shift work the same as you'd expect for selecting multiple items. It is great for selecting all your camping supplies at once to send back to camp (on controller Right Trigger lets you pick multiple too).
-You can examine enemies or npcs by just hovering over them and pressing T
-To use your character's weapon attack out of combat (to break down a door or sneak attack someone) you can just ctrl+click instead of clicking from your hotbar
-when trying to sell everything (like I do) it saves a lot of time to ctrl or shift click all the items I want to sell and add them to wares, now when you are in a trade menu, hit the trade option at the top and a new option appears to sell all wares.
I want it to be as successful as possible so we get a BG4 in a couple years 😊
BG2 was amazing but came out a looong time ago. I'm sure there'll be a bg4, but it might not be for another 10 years lol.

Summon familiar is the same. Having a little spoiler to attack a hostile NPC magic user and break concentration is a must.

Thank you for making these videos.

DA: Origins was great!
I'm still kinda mad that you can't have Astarion delay his turn until after the enemy has gone and have everyone act together, you can do that in D&D but they didn't transfer that over
My random tips:
1) "Add to Wares" marks it for selling at the next shopkeep NPC with 1 button.
2) If you have a lot of camping food, take the hint and long rest- The game is actually designed to have you camp more than you'll likely be inclined to, because that's when a lot of "interstitial plot events" and cutscenes happen, as well as connecting with your team NPC's. (I don't think this part was designed well, there should be a "fatigue" mechanic or something.)
3) Many of the powerful spells require "concentration" and there's 2 drawbacks to that- A party member can only "concentrate" on 1 spell at a time, and the "concentration" can be broken by being attacked, which triggers a roll against your Constitution.
7) 1 level of monk in Shadowheart and she can fight naked. ;)
Thank you so much, wondering what wares meant in the context of picking things up was driving me crazy!
I knew most of these but throwing stuff on traps to set them off - NEVER would've thought of that! :D Thank you so much :)
Haven't even played bg3 yet and I'm addicted to it 😂
I keep running across people asking "How can I see which SKILLs I am proficient at?" Those are the ones in your character sheet with the white dot to the left of them.
I actually made it a point not to do all the side quests. Knowing I’ll be playing multiple times as different characters. Keeps it fresh.
Camping too much can be a problem. If you take too many days to rescue someone it can he too late
THE MAP TELEPORT! After 25 hours in i ran back all the way what a time waste lol THANKS SO MUCH!
Thank you so much! I've only had the game two days, but it's blowing my mind how much there is to discover. I had to redo a dialogue exchange (game crash) and the second time around, I passed a background perception test that led to more sassy reply options lol. Crazy replayability potential.
Lol 60 hours played and I have always ran to travel from a portal (Except to camp)... Damn haha 😂 Thanks
10 points for telling me about the ability to go to any waypoint without havingtobe at a waypoint. Wow, that's a time saver!
How? I'm on ps5
Excellent, thanks.
Got bit by that a couple times.
same my brother
Is this game better then Starfield ?
apples and oranges. Its an amazing game though, perhaps even game of the year!
You can also use Guidance AGAINST Shadowheart if you know that you'll talk to her next, have her give you guidance first :)
Holding alt while looting will also always pick up books/papers etc, and then you have to find it in your inventory and read it.
You can right click and read it before you pick it up if you want to avoid looking for it later to read it, cheers!
Tilde = the key next to 1 (above Tab)
Thanks!!!
These were actually really good tips. Exactly what I was looking for.
I wanted to learn to play the game a little better with a little more strategy but not necessarily hack the game. Thanks!!
Glad I could help!
Pick up chests -> Then send to camp.
or destroy them and grab the loot
Thanks so much for contributing !
Throw healing potion on ground. Send chest you picked up to camp.
I'm surprised you didn't mention using the Barbarian lockpick on chests, it is also called a great axe (I suppose other weapons work too)
There is another method to...ahem...
Yup, killed a party member by accident...gotta get better with controls and selecting.
You are awesome.
thanks man, I appreciate that :))
21:30 omg I had no idea that was the attack order. I was a bit frustrated cuz it didn’t seem organized into teams and now I know why lol, thx!
Already off to a good start with that first tip about holding left click down, I will have to try that out tonight and see how it feels! By now I'd gotten used to clicking where I wanted to go and moving the camera around to survey the area but that may make it feel much smoother when traversing.
One thing i wish larian would do is if a box is empty before checking JUST LABEL IT EMPTY! Why make me get disappointed every damn time
Because it pads the play-time they can claim with the game. Very annoying.
small tip, if you are low or just stingy about camping, dont forget there is partial long rest, no suppllies and restores half hp/spell slots specially useful on high difficulty
i just restarted after 70 hours and the insane amount of these tricks that help out a lot is chefs kiss
At 16:03 once he's moved out of melee range, it's gone from his portrait again.
gonna go ahead and snip that section out so I'm not misinforming people, thanks for the heads up on that!
( little mis hag gave me 1500gold while i was tempted to just shove and move on )
Multiclass can be done from level 2. theres a button on the top section row you can click. ( i thought it was from level 6... )
Respeccing is possible! first area after the ship crashes is a temple / dungeon. there is a hidden room! GL finding it:D you can reset all your picks from class to chosen subspecs ect.
You can throw healing items to hit multiple party members. or attack one on the ground for greater aoe range.
you can range attack levers! :D
speak with undead / speak with animals! use it allot and if it's from an item check if it's a cantrip aka unlimited use without resting!
And lastly. without spoilers. check out the hole druid grove place before going on with the main questline. the spell will be cast and do what it's suppose to do!
Some other comment here said to keep a few pieces of food in inventory, as some NPCs will ask for food
Can you clarify? What are ALL consumables? Potions, scrolls, what else?
@@aeriagloris4211 camp supplies but I noticed for ps5 version it’s not the same
On my first I tried to never rest too, there are multiple characters telling you that you only had a week to get cured so it made sense not to camp. Ironically after realising you were never going to die from that I had Gale saying "I need a magic item or something terrible will happen" and thinking yeah right I've heard that before.
OMG. Thank you so much. Being a noob to D&D and strategy style games, I have had so many questions. Can’t wait to jump back on.
Long time DnD player here and I bet it caught some people off guard as being closer means missing more ranger attacks seems counter intuitive
