@@steamdeckguy oh noooo
@@aliendisclosure227 did any of you recommend another solution
I have a 64gb so only have 1 game on the sd and i have 2 sd cards how would i go about doing this method ao i dont lose were i am on my games
Follow the exact same process. Anything on your sd cards will just reload automatically when reinserted
@@steamdeckguy thanks for the reply so I would still have to have the SD cards in depending on what game I'm playing could I not clong both SD cards over as well as the main ssd?
@@TomWilliams-r3s once you have cloned the ssd to a larger drive, insert your sd card, and then through the storage settings you can select each game on sd card and move it to the internal drive. You can also change the default install location
@@steamdeckguy thankyou so much been putting off doing the upgrade for this reason 😂
So, I've tried this over and over. turns out I'm getting the same results. I tried on a brand new ssd. I even tried on another one actually. Both different, both same results...and basically it can run perfect 1st try after cloning, but the second I attempt to restart, it gets stuck on the logo, any work around this?
Side note, I went into the steam OS (minus and power selecting second option) and after all the gibrish, it said at the end "cannot open access to console the root account is locked"
Sounds like it’s corrupt. I’d put the original drive back in (or use a PC) and create a recovery drive, then do a full re-install on the new drive.
@steamdeckguy create a recovery drive? 🤔.. ok, could you give me a little step by step process guide? And you said put it in my original ssd?
@@misfitmazza663 th-cam.com/video/8SqomrDTYfs/w-d-xo.html
@steamdeckguy so I tried the recovery using my laptop and it got stuck with gibrish sideways saying error can't find command. Then it changed into this white outline "gnu grub" with 5 options to choose (steam os, advanced options, system halt, system restart)
Hey! I got the 1.18 and it was almost done, then outta nowhere it says “flash failed!
That sucks! Maybe try again - it might have got interrupted
Hello! Hoping you can help me out here! I want to stream games from steam deck to twitch and have thought of using obs but cannot use obs on desktop mode while playing games in game mode. Is there a way I can play games on desktop mode instead?
Yes, of course. Just load up steam in desktop mode.
@steamdeckguy Thanks! Will emulator games work this way too?
@@TheAnimatedWonders yes, everything will work the same
I thought u run a command ? So would u consider this way better? Because I’m kinda a rookie but I can do what u did in the video. And I don’t need to reimage or anything?
You can as I mentioned in the video, but personally I find this way more user friendly
The current version would not detect the source drive on the current version of the Steam Deck OS
Yeah the current version of balena etcher is completely broken….
I tried a few guides. This one was the best.
You mentioned doing this with a micro SD, do you have a video explaining how? 4:20
I use a USB drive in this video to reinstall steamOS. You can follow the same method using a microSD card.
th-cam.com/video/8SqomrDTYfs/w-d-xo.html
NOT an easy method! I did each step EXACTLY as in the video. Even downloading the older app image of Belina Etcher. My new 1TB drive is showing in my Steam Deck as the old 512GB. It “cloned” the size as well. Not happy. :(
Did you have windows installed on your 512gb drive? If so, you’ll likely need to resize the partitions manually. Otherwise, steamOS should automatically extend the unused space
@@steamdeckguy No. Stock 512GB OLED model. And a brand-new Corsair MP600 CORE Mini 1TB M.2 NVMe I picked up on Prime Day. Didn't format it, as instructed in your video, but verified it was showing correctly (1:36) before booting back into Desktop Mode.
@@iamsomewhere idk any better solution other than just re-install the whole os but if u dont want to do that then u cant go to desktop mode, launch KDE Partition Manager and try to resize it, if you're getting error then just create a new partition from the unlocated space and just.... live with it.
@@thescreamingsoap This is basically what I ended up doing. I booted into the BIOS, completely wiped everything, then reinstalled SteamOS via USB drive/Deck Image. It was a pain, but at least things are working correctly now, and the drive size is showing as it should.
I accidentally formatted it. How do I get it not, where this can work?
Providing the drive shows up in balena etcher, it shouldn’t be an issue
It doesn’t recognize it in bale man etcher. It shows it on the steam deck. But when I pull up Helena etcher. It says connect a drive.
*balena
I’m stuck at “plug a source drive” in. I cannot get it to recognize the 64GB SSD in the steam deck. Not sure how to get it to recognize.
is the clonage method also works with lcd models?
Yes
Any reason why the transfer speed is slow? Mine shows 30 mbs and 201 minutes lol. Im currently doing it. Im hoping the battery doesn't go to zero
Depends on the size of the ssd you are copying and transfer speeds. Mine was pretty quick as I only had one game installed (for demo purposes)
@@steamdeckguy weird it was slow with USB c to USB c. Put a dock and use USB blue port to type c. Speeds were 350 now lol.
this did not work for me, my steamdeck wont boot now
Hold the volume down button during boot, and then check that the ssd card is showing up as a boot drive. If it doesn’t, it means you have not connected the SSD properly. Otherwise, I’d suggest putting your old drive back in and either retrying, or doing the reimage method (I have another video showing how to do that)
@@steamdeckguy I have the new SSD in now and working but had to wipe it to get it to boot from usb. I’ll just have to re do my settings over time, unless there is a way of copying over stuff from my old drive
@@samladlow1 Same, with the cloned ssd it is not booting at all even though the ssd is been detected from the BIOS
@@shattia I booted from usb and just re did my settings, the only tricky bit was getting yuzu to work again. But I’m all sorted now. I just did it all gradually
@@samladlow1 I just wiped it and reimaged the sd. Emudeck was already on the external sd so everything is working just fine already. I just need to Download all the games again.
Nice to see you're back.
What the heck is up with your profile pic?
@@tommyg4842 it’s a scene from the short film ‘Begotten’.
@@sunwheel666 okay thanks, thought it was maybe ai, and I was making shapes out of nothing. Good to know it was good ol nightmare fuel lol
5/23/24 I have confirmed this works! My new 512 OLED unit Is now 2TB!! (1.8 TB without games installed)
Thank you for this very helpful guide!
THANK YOU!! I couldn't get it done using Konsole or other methods mentioned online, but yours worked perfectly. Quick and easy. 👍
"easy method" "ok now you're gonna need to buy ... -" okay bro
No worries bro. If you don’t want to buy an enclosure then follow my other guide to reinstall steamOS - I’ll warn you though you will need to buy a USB drive or micro sd card…personally though I recommend getting an enclosure so that you can use the old SSD as an additional storage device.
He said easy, never said free…. Quite obvious if you’re wanting to clone a drive you’re gonna need some way to connect the nvme externally lol.
Are you slow? He didn't say it was going to be free. He said it was an easy method. Which it is 🤦🏿♂️
