Honestly! It sounds great! Sammy’s in his 70s (almost 80) and is actually trying to sing the songs (unlike DLR), Jason is faithfully playing Alex’s parts without being a note-for-note copy along with Satriani which is what you want from established musicians like them, and Michael Anthony sounds great and looks happy to be carrying the Van Halen torch! Eddie would honestly rather see Joe do his own thing over a straight copy of what Ed did. Ed didn’t straight cover songs, he made them his own, as should Joe Satriani! Nothing beats the original Van Halen with Sam or Dave, but this is a love letter to all the fans of Van Halan who loved the Hagar era and appreciate seeing Sammy, Michael, Joe, and Jason pay tribute to such a monumental band! Age catches up with everyone, but we should be happy Sam & The Gang are up there showing appreciation you Ed & Al’s legacy!
@@Tiberius_Productions Jason is overplaying everything. It doesn’t sound good. I mean you play Poundcake, too fast actually and lose the groove, and you don’t break out the cowbell for the bridge? It’s lazy. But he did the same thing when he played Stairway with Heart and lazily left out one of his dad’s most famous fills during the guitar solo. And those stupid drum heads so nobody forgets who daddy is. Making money off of covering parts/songs/music made famous by. Alex and he has daddy’s pics. Classless and tacky.
@@nicholasgarnett-ly9nw don’t get mad at the facts. Jason’s a lazy drummer. This is Chickenfoot. You can find nobodies in VH tribute bands that sound better than this.
Each to their own I suppose. Looked like a fairly sloppy interpreation to me. Love Joe, one of my favourites, but he's not the right pick to play VH, he hasn't got EVH's right hand timing.
Gotta hand it to the whole band... faithful, respectful to the originals. Satch in particular doing a GREAT job... enough references to Ed's parts and AMP SOUND!... but doing his own great thing. Bravo guys!
Joe Satriani playing Van Halen (especially Poundcake) is the coolest thing ever. If someone had told my 17 year old self, that this would happen some day, I would have gone nuts in the 90s.
Word on the street is, When Sammy wrote the 5150 album, Eddie consoled Joe Satarini to help with some of the interps Sammy wrote.. When Sammy found out many many years later from Mike he contacted Joe and they started Chickenfoot.

Great performance by the band. Sammy is like a fine wine. He may not hit all those high notes the way he used to, but he sings his ass off giving his best. Satriani does a great job. He's not trying to copy Eddie Van Halen note for note, but channels his vibe excellently. He's not trying to be Eddie. It's Joe being Joe 🤘😎
Hats off to Satch! He honors Eddie by keeping the guitar parts recognizable and adding just enough of his own signature to let you know whos playing. I think Eddie would want it that way!
if the keyboard player can persuade them ! He's Rai Thistlewaite, founding member of the cult Aussie Band Thirsty Merc and Joe's touring keyboard player
Unlikely. They're doing 3 shows in Japan at the end of the tour. Tickets are all gone there though. You need to go to the USA to see him. He came to Australia in the mid 90"s on a solo tour once.
Soon to get this right this is a Van Halen tribute yet the drummer Jason Bonham has his father on his drum kit pictures of his dad so is this a led Zeppelin Van Halen thing or what's going on?😮
100%. Absolutely pathetic that he has to never let anyone forget where he came from. Custom made kit to look similar to Alex’s kits with extra Tom’s for big fills and his dads face not once, not twice but 3 times. Zero class and tasteless. And he’s playing it too fast, losing the groove and totally overplaying. And where’s the cowbell in the bridge? He sounds terrible. I have heard bar bands that sound better than Jason here.
@@CfmB-kl1wz no problem I can do it better than Jason Bonham I've been playing drums for 45 years and have played up on the stage in front of live audiences 50,000 people what have you done
I dunno, I liked Satriani more than I thought, he killed the solo and I'm glad he didn't do a carbon copy but man, I'm just not a huge fan of Jason's drumming. He's a technically fine player but, and maybe I'm not picking because I'm a drummer, but hes playing it way to fast. And yeah I know, things get sped up all the time live BUT I counter with, a song like this it's allll about the groove and once a certain tempo is reached that pocket isn't there anymore. That's why Alex, while he sped some stuff up live, always laid back on this song because that pocket is so important. But that's just me. I've never been a massive fan of Jason's playing, his father is probably the most important drummer in my playing journey but he's just never quite done it for me.
They aren't playing the songs in the original key anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered. Satch said in an interview that Sammy had him tune his guitars down to D for this tour.

Show Michael Anthony some Love!
Better than David, and I'm a huge DLR fan! Love Mr. 'Rock Candy' his bad self too!!!
Sammy’s attitude is like “IDGF, ya, I’m an old man”. Some others appear to be getting aesthetics pretty regularly. Why not accept 70 naturally?
Man! Bonham has big shoes to fill but he's filling them just fine
Music sounds great! Sammy sounds great for 76
Love that VanHaggar sound!! Definitely Sammy & the boys keep it up. Old age don't stop 'em. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This song has such a killer groove!
I was at this show. It was phenomenal.
Sammy and Mike nailed it recruiting Satriani and Bonham to join them on this tour. Wow

Sounds awesome!!! I sure wish Alex would have joined in, at least for a few dates........... Jason's killing though :)
Satch is making Eddie's parts his own, as was expected. He's not doing it note for note like all the basement guitar gods expected.
