www.earlscruggs... The Scruggs Family (Earl, Randy and Gary) Jon Randall,Dierks Bentley, and Rob Ickes at the IBMA Music Awards on September 30, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee
I love the sly little grins Mr. Scruggs shows at each hand of applause. You can almost hear him thinking, "I 'preciate the applause, but I could play this perfectly even if I were 200 years old."
I realize I am too young for their era, however, my Dad was 50 when I was born. I grew up listening to records of Flatt and Scruggs, The Carter Family, and many more. In particular, this remains my all-time favorite song in spite of the many, more modern music genres I love. It's really nice that songs like this have been uploaded to TH-cam for others to enjoy and discover. Thanks for posting it.
I’ve just been watching all the early black and white tv shows of flatt and scruggs , They are incredible and earl scruggs is a master on the banjo and guitar , And even at a ripe old age he hasn’t lost any of his dexterity
R.I.P. Earl Scruggs I still have my black Earl Scruggs book , which I had him autograph, and a picture of me shaking his hand, at the bluegrass festival in weiser Idaho 1976 and anther of him signing my book again at the cotillion in Wichita Ks. In 2010.
Earl Scruggs. Probably the last musician at that time who actually knew Mother Maybelle well, and played on TV with her. He was probably the last of the group of the Carters, the Cash's, etc.
I was lucky enough to get to see and hear the Earl Scruggs review playing in a amall bar at the foot of M Street at K Street (under the bridge) in Washington DC in the spring of 1980.
Oh Lord, but I love this! Thanks so much! I saw Earl, Randy and John Hartford play in a concert at Middle Tenneessee State Univ. somewhere back in the 80's...What a GREAT show!!!
"Does God let Earl play his banjo in heaven?" Would some talented songwriter please write a bluegrass song with those words as the title. Perhaps to the tune of Great Speckled Bird / Honkytonk Angels. I expect the angels have all traded in their harps for fiddles, dobros, mandolins & bass so they can play along with Earl.

Earl was the consummate performer. What a testament to his longevity.

The greatest banjo player on the planet but everybody loves to hear and pick the guitar
Brought tears to my eyes to hear this song again.
thank you for sharing this beautiful family with us
Earl, Randy and Gary. Very amazing this family. Unfortunately Earl passed away. God bless them.
I can't really describe the sweetness of this performance, on so many levels, dating back to Maybelle Carter. Thank you for sharing it. :)
That is a Mother Maybelle Carter lick. She taught it to Earl. Great music never dies it just get passed down for other generations to enjoy.
God bless Mr. Earl Scruggs. One of the Fathers of Bluegrass. A legend forever.
He invented the bluegrass banjo sound we all love today.
MUSIC MADE TO TOUCH YOUR HEART..JUST BEAUTIFUL

An irreplacable musician.

Rockhard, people like you will never understand mountain music, you just soil it!!!!!!
Not as sharp as a few years ago but still masterful
Funny, he 3 finger picks the guitar just the way he would his 5 string. Guess what works, works, right?
Hi Randy,
Your Dad was one of a kind...Remember when we met and picked a few songs at Izzy Young's Folklore Center in NYC years ago...Jack Baker NYC
What a great night for them ❤️
