Soft corals are so vastly underrated. Not to mention, how much less of a headache they are than SPS.

Exactly, many people think that they have to have SPS corals to be cool but I choose what I like which is usually a mix of coral varieties and keep a small amount of fish. I get to know them that way and they don’t pollute as much.

Yes agreed, the tank is too small for these fish. Adult size of the queen angelfish ranges from 18-24 inches. Too small a tank stresses the fish and shortens their lifespan. You can‘t stunt the growth of some species, they will just keep getting larger thus outgrowing their tank. The tank also needs to be wider and not just longer. 800 gallons perhaps.

Hey maybe the lipstick tang needs a mate after awhile. All species of the living at some point of time will need a buddy of their own kind because they do recognize one another. In the wild the lipstick tang would have access to his own kind. In the home aquarium maybe those needs have to be addressed also. I'm only assuming this because in the canine kingdom, a dog, some breeds recognize their own and do better when housed with one another. Just like a species will recognize one another and battle each other I believe in the opposite also. They might or they will at some point need the company of the same species they know and recognize.

nitrates and phosphates were up a bit in the system from memory and the lights were cranking at a decent percentage. The tank was shut down shortly after this video to make way for baby number 2 in the family but Michael is assessing a new build soon :)

I love the Angels but addicted to Wrasses and ready for my WB 130.4 to be ready.
I have never seen a Parrot fish that small. How old is it, how long have you been keeping it?
Magnificent collection and livestock density is a generalized rule in the hobby. Primarily because most people are not diligent enough to watch for aggression and maintain proper nutrient levels in the water.
As far as heavily stocked reef tanks go, this is one of the cleanest and nicest looking.
Beautiful Yellow Tang too. Very rich color on all the fish. I love the selection you have. Epic fish list indeed!

@@ParkersReef Thanks for the reply, I’ve kept LPS and some SPS and tbh I’m leaning towards soft corals more and more, I have a busy life, not to say I don’t make time for my tanks as I have 5 and run them all on a maintenance schedule, but managing Alk is a bloody headache not to mention keeping perfect stability of phosphate and nitrate, whenever I see a soft coral tank I’m like “why would you want anything more” soft coral tanks have more movement, fish are happier with more places to hide and they just fit life better, not lazy, but they give greater visual rewards for a fraction of the work and quicker growth, and that’s most of our aspiration to have a tank with more coral than rock and see visible growth month to month

No build thread that I know of, but there are plenty of threads out there for similar style setups. The beauty of Michael's tank wasn't so much the equipment that made it work, it was the livestock selection that worked so beautifully together :)

Queen angelfish hail from the Caribbean and grow 18-24 inches in length in the wild. Strange seeing one in a tank full of info-Pacific endemic reef fish and corals. A separate tropical Atlantic Caribbean themed reef tank might be more appropriate. Then you might include French angelfish, rock beauty angelfish, jackknife drums, banded butterflyfish, royal gramma fairy basslets, princess parrotfish with brain corals, purple sea fans from Cuba, sea whips and other Atlantic coral species as cohabitants. Queen angelfish halocanthus ciliaris have no natural immunity to Lymphocites.
