    those are Jalosie windows.. big down here in FL in the 50's and 60's. Just a few years ago I replaced the last remaining jalousie window in my 1915 house. They are great for air flow but easy to break into

    • @ellenfarmer3498
      @ellenfarmer3498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Still have 2 storm doors with those dang windows, so easy to slide out the heavy glass panels. What were they thinking when installing those on a ranch home 1974 up north here? Sure good air flow, but no screening.

    • @tacocin
      @tacocin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Super easy to break into ... victimized long ago by that style.

    • @debraellison6255
      @debraellison6255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@tacocin I feel your pain. I was across town staying with a friend and the girl next door with her three friends robbed me. They took things given to me over the years from my husband , grandmother and mom. Nice things I saved for years to buy. I knew it was them because her mom worked nights and she asked her if she saw anything. She said no then said we thought you moved. Then called her friends who showed up within minutes. She had my bird which she claimed she found in a cage down the street. Then her sister, brother in law and dad all moved in for about a month. Mother told me she had these friends that had stolen her jewelry and told her she couldn't hang around them. I told her well she's lying to you because right after you leave for work they show up and leave around 5 am before you get home. I told her your daughter may end up dead one day because Florida has a stand your ground law. I told her if I had been home that night I would have shot "whoever" it was. I now call them "lousy windows ".

    • @robertburns3014
      @robertburns3014 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely correct! You don't want the jalousie windows. They are a burgler's dream. You don't have to break the glass, you just pull out enough of the panes and you're in! They are also harder to clean and they leak air if you are trying to cool the house with air conditioning or warm the house with a heat source.

    • @trishthehomesteader9873
      @trishthehomesteader9873 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good morning. I had no idea there was a landing and step on the side of the house. You, Cody, and friends are always uncovering "things". I call those side windows "jalousie windows". Mr. Wright, you are doing something I have wanted to do most of my life, restore an old home. I will continue to watch, and re-watch, your posts. You will get it done, and your viewers will watch and applaud. It is a tough job. Thank you.

    Those windows were called Jalousie windows. Florida was full of them in houses. In fact my 1950 house had them. It was like porch with all those damn windows. By the way, ask your friend Brandon what kind of bottle that is that you thought might be a whisky bottle. I tell ya Cody did it again at cleaning up that little porch area.Great job Cody. It was so exciting to see the roof. Can’t wait till you get it going. Everything is looking super.
    Loved watching Baloo. His head was bobbing back n forth watching the two of you cleaning that area , couldn’t decide who to herd. It was so cute. What a great n beautiful dog he is. ♥️😊👍👍👍🐶

    Robert, I enjoy watching your videos on both of your TH-cam channels. For the people who don’t know why the kitchen was a separate building in the past , it was due to fire. Most house fires occurred in the kitchen and with no modern fire departments or hydrants, it would be less likely that the entire house would burn down. I have visited many historical sites and that’s what was explained to me.

    Very cool.
    My grandparent's farm house, built 1900, had those windows on the front porch. As others have said, they are called jalousie windows. Sometime in the 1950s they had those installed all the way around the front porch. On the porch door they were just like yours. But the rest of the jalousies panes on the porch were huge, maybe a foot tall and 3 feet wide. They also had screens on the inside. That porch had awesome air flow.

    Robert. I live in Canada the second and thing I would With the house
    #1. Get a good roof on the house and vent the attic properly. You can do that at the top Just cut some sweating back or it may already be there. Put a weather main up there for a vent maybe more than one
    # 2. Retire new hydro and plumbing
    # 3. Insulate. You can blow in

    To get rid of any woody vine or tree I use a hatchet and mixture of 24d and water in squirt bottle . Slice the vine or tree with the hatchet and squirt a small amount of 24d in fresh cut slice and it will die. There are many videos on this procedure so check them out,it does work.

    So nice to see the new discoveries as you continuing cleaning. It's very exciting to watch except for the snake, LOL I know they perform a service but ouuuu! not a snake person :)
