  • Hey You Tube Family we are back with another build video on our Arctic Acres Passive heating Geodesic Greenhouse Build. We are building a 26' Geo Dome for our 4 acre homestead to supply our family with fresh vegetables, Herbs and fruit year around. We live in central North Alberta in a Zone 3 Climate; so our summers are short and our winters are long and can be quite harsh at times with temperatures dipping to -50 with wind chills. With our ever changing world and the food scarcity shortages, inconstancies in product, rising prices and of course the rise in food borne illnesses, we are striving to be more self sufficient and rely on the land we have. Today we are building the pond for tilapia for fresh meet and aquaponics for growing food! We show you our natural native prairie land and our food forest and take a quick trip down memory lane and before and after we build our homestead and how far we have come.
Homesteading in Alberta is a challenge with 5 -7 months of cold weather. Garden landscaping takes time and effort but we strive to have Wild flowers on our property that grow in abundance and are ripe for the picking. native plants surround our acreage and are amazing for pollinators.
Don't forget to hit that SUBSCRIBE Button as we will have many more videos to come on our Arctic Acres Geodome Build and of course the fun stuff once we actually get growing!

Hope you enjoyed this video and our garden this year. We hope you learned something that help you in your garden or Homestead. let us know what you would grow or what we should consider growing in our 4 season geodesic greenhouse and what we should finish our beds with?

This greenhouse is such an amazing idea! Love watching it all come together! I like the cedar idea for the facing!

Thank you so much for your input, we will probably go with cedar as it’s mold and mildew resistant👍

Thanks for your dedication in recording your progress on your homestead. I'm tired just looking at all things you do so don't know how you can record and edit your videos as well! Loving the geodesic dome. It looked labour intensive. Im looking forward to see how things progress. You have a fantastic set up.

Thank you so much and yes it’s a lot of work but very rewarding! Mike edits the videos and Chantalle does the social media and most recording and all website write ups. Chantalle also homeschools ours oldest and Mike works. Together we make a great team! We will be posting an update on the done very soon as it’s starting to look like a jungle! We also installed lighting recently for our short days in winter.

I like the idea of cedar for finishing your gardens - will tie in nicely with roof framing / struts - I see others have done half round logs - that's my vote - wife likes cedar too so that's two votes cedar haha -
We love heading to Devon as well, almost bought there because we like the river access so much - Brian

I never thought of using ruff cut good idea. With the price of cedar we might have to go this route we will see. We are keeping our eyes peeled for a good deal as we will need a bunch. Devon is an amazing place to live we love going there for family fun. Thanks for the great input!✨

@@AlbertaAdventurerFamily just passing along ideas!! saw on the site for Arctic Acres and the link to the build by Shawn James - his channel "my self reliance" has tons of outdoor adventure and content you might like if you haven't seen him - but y'all probably don't have much time to be watching videos this time of year!! th-cam.com/video/OAEYg7ypz1o/w-d-xo.html
