    I used this technique for small black algae spots in my pool. Worked like a charm! For the spots in the deep end, I just jumped in and swam to the bottom and rubbed the chlorine tablet on the spots.

    Unbelievable, it works great! First, I was out there with a wire brush, then it was a wire brush and muratic acid, then I pulled out my pressure washer, all of these did not touch the algae worth a shot on my pebble tech. I came in and found your video, went to the store to buy tablets (I have a salt water pool) and started rubbing the tablet over the water line. By the end of my doing the first rub, the algae is mostly gone from the first section. This is a great idea! You have a new subscriber. Thank You!

      Regarding hardwater scale on your tile line, the good old fashioned pumice stone. Slowly but surely and don't go too hard so you don't damage the tiles surface.

    I have a bad brown "toilet bowl" ring in my fiberglass pool. I thought it was from all the hackberry tree crud falling into the pool. The brown appears that is runs down the sides of the pool toward the bottom too. I wonder if this will help my problem? I did not have this problem last year.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm sounds like some staining. I had an above ground pool that had a similar issue. It may be algae but it may be something else. You ca try the phosphate remover and some light brushing and see if that helps (be careful with the TriChlor on a fiberglass pool as it could damage the fiberglass. With our above ground pool it turned out to be staining (from what I don't know) but I drained it halfway and used some mild liquid bleach and lightly scrubbed it and it did the trick and then refilled the pool immediately after to rinse.

      For that you may want to try using a tablet and scrub it against the black algae. The key is getting the trichlor to settle onto the algae.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it wouldn't. That'd be too harsh on it. You may want to try putting some bleach and water (maybe 4 parts water to one part bleach) in a spray bottle and spraying it on the water line / algae line. Leave it on for maybe 20 minutes and wash off.

    Thank you great 411. Question have a 30,000 gallon pool salt and have a bad case of black algae we have shock treatment for 3 days and it helps and we brush brush brush however it’s not my pool it’s a apartment and it’s in the Philippines 🇵🇭
    My question now that we have done our best but it’s a 22 x 38 x 5 pool and there is still a little here and there and some here black and you know they grow roots and well is it unsafe to swim in a pool with black algae and there are kids swimming as well, is it really unhealthy to swim with black algae. Thank you,

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know as long as the black algae is minimal it should be safe to swim in. But I would continue fighting it to read the pool of it completely. How do you spent some time in Manila in the Philippines and it’s very very humid and there’s a lot of vegetation around. So that creates a combination that allows for algae spores and phosphates to thrive. I would really recommend getting a really good phosphate remover and using it to rid the water of phosphates. I would follow the instructions that come with the phosphate remover get. Especially with a safety precautions regarding when it’s safe to swim after adding the phosphate remover. You might also have to clean your filter medium more often because of the amount of phosphates and vegetation.

      They're correct. We had that same issue with our above ground pool when we had ours. You can use the trichlor granules like you would for black algae on the bottom BUT DON'T LEAVE IT ON TOO LONG SO AS TO RICK DAMAGING THE LINER. MAYBE TRY 20-30 MINUTES.

    How do you get rid of black algae on the walls of a pebble tech pool? There's none on the bottom or on the water line. I have scrubbed and treated with different types of algaecide to no avail.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First watch my video on treating black algae in your pool. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/58rEOjmObL8/w-d-xo.html
      If its on the sides you can put the trichlor granules in a nylon sock and dangle it against the side of the pool in contact with the algae and it'll do the trick. But you need to scrub the algae with a brush first to "break the skin" of it so the trichlor granules will work better.

    I live in southeast Missouri and continue to have issues with what I think is mustard algae. I've used the product you've suggested in one of your videos to remove the phosphates. I've used algaecides,and shock weekly. I use a floatron. I've vacuumed to waste on several occasions and within a hr I get this sandy looking stuff settle in the lower areas of my above ground pool. I've had the water tested at the pool supply company and it checks out fine. Any suggestions??

      @@jeffreystelling3395 Hmmmm Sounds like your sand filter has a crack or something in the manifold which is allowing some sand to squeak through. REMEMBER, if you don't have a stay in the pool vacuum you will get some dirt and debris settling on the bottom of your pool. So that could possible be that as well BUT one reason I wouldn't think it's that is because the sand is ending up in the same place.
      I have had three above ground pools in the last 18 years (they're only good for about 3-4 years in the AZ heat) and one had a sand filter that was horrible and unreliable. The other two I used a larger single cartridge cartridge filter (specifically for above ground pools) the same one on both (yes it lasted that long and it was fantastic!). If you are so inclined I'd suggest changing over to a good after market above ground pool cartridge filter like this one by Pentair which has it's own pump and motor: www.amazon.com/Pentair-PNCC0150OF2160-Aboveground-Cartridge-Filter/dp/B008HYKGIW/ref=asc_df_B008HYKGIW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198100862572&hvpos=1o4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=227479651980899661&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030055&hvtargid=pla-386521583485&psc=1
      or the Hayward XStream which is the one I had (albeit it an older model):www.amazon.com/Hayward-Cartridge-Efficient-Filtering-Square-Feet/dp/B00SBQFFPA/ref=asc_df_B00SBQFFPA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241972133686&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=227479651980899661&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030055&hvtargid=pla-571213127498&psc=1
      I know they're a bit more expensive but they are really good.

      I use a light acid for pools and apply it with an old dish soap bottle where I can squirt it on. Then I go right behind it with a stiff brush and it comes off real easy. Best to do it after vacuuming your pool where the water is low and you have to add water afterwards. The only problem is it can throw your PH off.
