    I don't know who told you that Bonita(little tunny) are in the mackerel family not the tuna family. Tuna and Mackerel are both in the same family and Bonita are in the same tribe as true tunas while king mackerel are in the spanish mackerel tribe

    • @williambenner5550
      @williambenner5550 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tristan K Yea! When he said that I thought it HAD to be wrong! I use to fish them in California and ALWAYS believed and was told they were in the Tuna family!

    • @TKirbyK
      @TKirbyK 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Benner well I may be wrong but I believe in California you were probably catching true bonito rather than what are shown in this video. In the video they are catching little tunny which are often called Bonita here in Florida. True bonito are actually in a separate subfamily from tunas and mackerels

    • @TKirbyK
      @TKirbyK 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Benner true bonito are still in the tuna family just not as closely related as the ones in the video

    • @williambenner5550
      @williambenner5550 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the ones in the video are not Atlantic bonito? For those are in the Tuna family.

    • @TKirbyK
      @TKirbyK 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Benner no those are little tunny which are also known as false albacore up north and Bonita in Florida. If you look at the fish as Blair holds it up you can see the wormy lines on the top of its body and several spots just below the pectoral fins where as Atlantic Bonito have straight horizontal stripes and sometimes vertical bars. Also unlike the Atlantic Bonito, Bonita are very poor table fair and are mostly targeted just for fun or to use as bait since they are possibly the best all around baitfish in Florida

    I like your rods but I fish in fresh water, I like to pan fish and go for perch/walleye/northern/musky, just wondering if your rods are meant mostly for salt water fish or can you use your rods for smaller fish like the ones I like to go for ? Any help or opinion is appreciated

    • @scottmonroe1077
      @scottmonroe1077 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shimano Flyer It was. A lot of guides in FL call False Albacore "Bonita" as opposed to Atlantic Bonito, and I think he said Bonita. However, by saying it was a mackerel as opposed to a tuna is where he confused things. Tuna, Bonito and Mackerels are all part of the Scombrinae family, but the Bonita are closer to tuna, the Bonito more mackerel like (teeth).
