You know how when you shake a box of sand it turns into quicksand and things sink? That works in SM now! Don't use regular blocks though, being square they just settled down flat. Pipe pieces or ducks work well.
The physics for complex single creations are no different than before this update. Its only the physics for collisions between multiple relatively simple creations
Have you considered just putting your hole to put stuff in on the other side (where it rotates down) and then adding a front glass wall everywhere else?
Hi kAN, Expanding on your idea with blocks in the washer for MPM, you could have a platform on each side with maybe 10 cubes painted red vs blue and the first to clear all cubes would win! Bonus: Add a button with a timer to swap the dryer direction, could be a shared or separate timers. Love the videos, excited for the new update, Carnivorous Moss
It is honestly amazing that SM, allows to not only swap between different physics, but doing it on the fly even like that. I know that isn't knew, but it really can't have been trivial to make that functionality
For one of your multiplayer Mondays you should make a map that rotates like a giant washing machine but with platforms in the middle and the vehicles can have thrusters so they can go vertical. The goal to win would be to push someone off a side to fall out of the machine.
Build a parkour map, something that would be hard in multiplayer with the old physics. Something it takes a minute or two to run through, and make copies of it so a multiplayer group can all run through identical courses at the same time. Take turns hosting, and see if the host still has a massive advantage for parkour.
it already looks much better than the old physics, it used to almost crash when only 2 cars were touching, or just getting really close but not touching
Yeah people seem to be misinterpreting the scope of this update. It doesn't fix single complex creations causing lag. Only the lag caused by multiple relatively simple creations colliding with each other
I have a survival world and whenever i drove my car around it would de-spawn and then re-spawn. So if this update fixes stuff that stuff it would be amazing
You need to create a new world for the new physics to work properly. Also complex single creations will still cause major lag, it is only the physics between multiple simple colliding objects / creations that has been improved and optimised.
I know it’s been a long time coming for an update, but a physics engine overhaul is a very large task. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took a team of devs 6 months to a year just to have a semi-functional version, and then it needs to be sent to QA. Immense props.
Since you need a new survival map for these physics, how about making a new series, where you take a semi and give it a trailer for each purpose outside the base? ^^ And maybe give the trailers a dolly, which could couple between the trailers, so that you could pull multiple at once ^^ Also, some lowbed trailers would be awesome to haul mining and logging vehicles :D
@@peetjvv yes, you get a difference, but risk bugs in that world, that's why they told us to make new survival worlds 🤷♀️ So it works, but you risk loosing that old survival world with it.
in my own testing i noticed smart physics makes couplers for trains not work (they phase through each other) and advanced makes the train jump (for some reason)
A) pushing stuff into the side where everything piles up is definitely not something i'd expect from you. B) BALL SPAWNER. you could have spawned in so many balls. just close up the half of the semicircle where the stuff piles up, and spawn them by the switches for speed selection. the thing could probably have ended up full before your frames died. (add in 2-3 block high walls along the drum to get some good tumbling action)
Multiplayer Monday idea: Who can last the longest in the tumbler?. They have to build a vehicle (or object) and the first to fall out the tumbler loses
video idea, a giant rotating spleef arena. To make the arena more durable, use 1x1x16 edges, or/and place bombs with color sensors, which would detonate when they detect a car
Someone could make a laundromat for hide and seek. Get inside and be camouflaged by tumbling "clothes". Or maybe a Breaking Bad map where you can hide in a lab that is under a big industrial dryer.
Here’s a multiplayer Monday idea: have basically a giant dryer, even bigger than this, but have it on its side. Then use the spikes mod and cardboard to have a demolition derby on a rotating floor
I suggest next time throw in the cars from the left, not the right (where the drum goes down, not up) and put a glass wall on the side where the cars sometimes flall out.
Make a rod with a hook on each side that you can hook two vehicles up to and do tug-o-war, or tractor pull. I'm curious if more wheels or more engines matter more for power.
Could you make the giant dryer available in the workshop? And maybe you could make artificial growth using the wheel, only problem is the character always stays vertical, but you could make a small wheel chair
if the internal physics are still needing an update i wonder if the lag that still remains is not just that lag from each items internal physics having issues
I loaded a old save and went on a mining run with the new physics enabled and purposefully left as many metal/stone rods sitting on the ground to see if it would lag the game and no matter how many pieces of stone and rods i left sliding on the ground i couldn't get the game to lose any more then a few FPS. Mining is so much better now.
from a technical perspective, they made the code about 20x more efficient than the previous. That either says that the last physics are truly horrible or the new ones are legendary, probably a mix of both.
I would still love to have speed and strength be two different options. Also, being section off the controller to be able to use it for multiple switches, bearings, etc. That way, we can significantly reduce the number of controls needed to make doors or whatever. When you connect a bearing and switch, you can assign it a number. And the switch will only work for the bearing with the same assigned number. Also, having logic built into the controller with the same system, that way, if you have two switches assigned the same number, you can change how they behave.
with the minigame of having them "load the dryer" Have them both load the same one and whoever can get all of there color blocks or objects into it before the other wins
I don't understand why people get surprised about a patch when they post relatively often about what they're up to. Patches have never been a question about 'if' so much as they are about 'when'.
It seems like maybe its just dynamically switching between advanced physics and simple physics for individual objects. I wonder if you did something like piston engine sumo if the cars would just go spaghetti every time they hit each other.
It's weird that the frames are worse when the objects are stationary... A very basic optimization to physics engines is when a object is moving slower than a certain threshold for long enough the physics engine makes that object static making it not needing to calculate the physics for that object until something interacts with that object again. The fact that it is worse frames when in a tumbling process seems to indicate some fault in the engine and also indicates that they are calculating the physics of even stationary objects.
@@Rafale25I don't have scrap mechanic to do a better test myself, but from the video when the drum wasn't spinning there was still some miniature movement in the objects which seems to show that the physics engine does calculate physics for stationary objects.
I have a lot of ideas to try with this update. Let me know if you have ideas too!
kan
make a derby with sawblades and like 5 people
or a old monday moring car race
now you can maybe do parkour for multiplayer monday!
Multiplayer Monday idea: Physics gambling
Place bets on how much stuff or how big something can be before lag. Closest wins
Toilet Plinko for multiplayer Monday
Build a maze filled with hundreds of tiny free falling blocks and make the floor move up and down.
