Douglas DC-8 America’s second jet airliner

In this video, we are looking at the history of Douglas DC-8 America’s second jet airliner, but the first supersonic in the world. McDonnell Douglas DC-8 is a four-engine jet airliner developed by Douglas Aircraft in the 1950s. Deliveries began in autumn of 1959 with the distribution of the first aircraft to Delta Airlines, and United Airlines during the following year.

We loved the DC-8s, had the 71s & 73s, they were solid work horses and seemed like they would fly forever.

Very nice video. A very thorough telling of the story of the DC-8. This was the first jet plane I flew on in 1965, from Madrid to JFK as a 7 year old coming to live in the USA.

@EMAviationChannel IBERIA- Aerolineas de España. And then flew on from JFK to ORD in an AA 727. I was just a little kid, but already a geek for airplanes and cars.

I flew from London to Sydney in a DC8 in 1974.
I was amazed how long it took to get off the ground.
On several stops along the way the pilot apologised half way through takeoff and assured people that this was normal for the DC8.

At 6:53 you see the image of a Continental DC-8 super 62...it is fotoshoped
It is really a United airlines jet.
Continental never flew DC-8s... they were a Boeing 707 customer. although it looks very nice!!
