  • Repair or a Sony CD Player model CDP-611 / CDP-D7. I bought this as junk the other day, so in this video I'll attempt to repair it and get a working CD Player.
The player is suffering from a No Disc Error, it will not recognize a CD being inserted and refuse to play anything.

Thank you for posting this. My Sony CDP 991 was giving No Disc error. Normal lens cleaning discs failed, but and following your instructions , I've cleaned the laser lens and it's working fine now.
Another good bit of tech saved from being scrapped :-)

I just got my CDP-295 out of storage - the first CD player I ever bought back in the 90s - to show off it's "cool" tape dubbing feature where you tell it how long your tape is and it'll organise the tracks to fit ... but "no disc" ... but a quick clean with some alcohol ... it's back! Thanks so much! A quick look at the lens and it appeared fine, but after watching your video and checking closer I could see it was a little murky. /brett

Same here. I've just bought a CDP 295. The day after I've bought It, It started with "no disc" and some click noises, as if It was trying to focus. I thought I should buy a new lens kit but I don't know how to fix these things. I've cleaned the lens with IPA cleaner and now It works. Back in the 90's, I had CDs with brushes to clean the lenses. This is more efficient.

I owned one of these units for many years and it was excellent. The ability to access tracks instantly with the keypad on the right was the best feature.

Not only that, but also the different reverb/hall options are awesone

Well done. Nice player but not so well cared for judging by all those scratches. But it works again and sounds nice

I'm Back in business once more. I twiddled all the pots around the drive mechanism just in case anything had Hot Spotted or had came out of alignment on their carbon tracks, and it is reading and playing CD's once again.

Hi, I have a Sony CDP-S41 which when plugged into mains power will not power up then after about 5min the display comes on and it works. I then replaced all caps inside and its still the same but the sound output is now sounding excellent. Can an IC cause this? thanks.

Hi, It's very hard to say without doing a few measurements. It could be something as simple as a cracked solder joint or a faulty regulator. Best way to start investigating is to monitor all the power supply voltages with a scope during power up. Sorry, can't be of more help.
      Cheers,
      Jake

Hello, my Sony CD player CDP-M11 tray disc open by itself and it can't play any compact disc. Any suggestion? Thanks

Bought this a week ago. Played OK then skidded and skipped on end CD tracks with motor making odd imprecise noises, and now there is no movement of the laser, keeps saying No CD. Do you have any suggestions please, or do you think the motor has had it?

I have this exact CD player, and I've run into an issue where the tray does not lift after it closes, it will whir for a few seconds then eject. It appears there's something wrong with the large metal section lifting up, almost like its too heavy or there isnt enough current sent to the motor to close it with force. Any tips or idea? Thanks for the video

There is a small drive belt on the motor that opens and closes the tray, check that first, it's likely gone bad with age and the wheels are slipping.
      Cheers,
      Jake

@@TheStuffMade Fortunately it wasn't the motor, it was the drive belt. Even though it looked fine (no cracking), it lacked the tension needed to give enough friction to pull up the tray. Replaced it just now and its working. Thanks!

Great when that happens, always try the easiest thing first.
It probably lived in a smokers home.

Yeah, I'm not going to complain when something is a simple fix.
