    I believe more Christians need to visit this site. These churches are magnificent. Much respect for this culture. Please observe their traditions when visiting.

    I visited in 1998. I was traveling through Africa by local buses from South Africa to Egypt. Took me 9 months. Ethiopia was amazing.

    No, the churches are not "a symbol of the strength and resilience of the Ethiopian people." The churches are a testimony of the builders love of God that continue to testify to their love and dedication.

    A lot of BS. This was made a church later. It was originally a temple as old as Baalbek or Kailasa maybe. People think the top is shaped like a cross so it must be Christian but its not a cross. A cross has one end longer than the others. This monolithic megalith could be over 12000 years old like Kailasa another monolith carved from a hill.

    These are likely ancient temples that were converted to churches later. The architecture is astounding!

      Their building is attributed to King Lalibela who set out to construct in the 12th century a 'New Jerusalem', after Muslim conquests halted Christian pilgrimages to the holy Land.

    Built with knowledge and skill by and with the assistance of the Knights Templars. As were many (most?) of Europe’s great gothic cathedrals.

    The Ethiopian church is the closest to original Catholicism that we will get in today's age.

    • @maxsparks5183
      @maxsparks5183 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It in fact has nothing to do with the Catholic Church. It came about as a result of first temple era Jews moving there who later converted to a form of Christianity which retains very strong early Jewish beliefs and practices.
