- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, known in Japan as Ozu no Mahōtsukai (オズの魔法使い, Ozu no Mahōtsukai), is a Japanese anime television series adaptation based on four of the original early 20th century Oz books by L. Frank Baum. In Japan, the series aired on TV Tokyo from 1986 to 1987. It consists of 52 episodes, which explain other parts of the Oz stories, including the events that happened after Dorothy returned home.
The English dub of the series was edited into a movie in 1987, but I always had a problem that they cut too much from the show. So I decided to make my own cut.

I remember watching this when I was little. This cartoon brings back a lot of great childhood memories. So nostalgic. 🙏🏾❤🥰🙋🏾♀

This whole time I thought it was just a cartoon movie of the Wizard of Oz. I had no clue it was an entire TV series.
It was my favorite cartoon, I know I wanted to miss school and watch it when I was a child.......what beautiful memories!

I have been an Oz fan since 1988 when I first seen it at my grans house in glasgow, scotland when she first put that blank vhs tape with writing on a white strip on the front of the tape. I wish id have asked her where that blank tape was before she died. 😢😞 I miss her above and beyond that though and I always will no matter what. I can't even watch her fave comedy tv show (the steamy) she used to watch at new year without getting a tear in my eye. 😢
Never saw the full series before, only the 90-minute "full feature" version that was released on DVD. The additional scenes are interesting and add to the story, although the Mombi and Tip subplot was not in the original book...they were in a later book in the Baum series, and the giant spider part comes AFTER Dorothy and friends return to the Emerald City and the Wizard leaves without her. The spider creature is one of a number of further adventures they have on the way to Glinda's castle in the south.
(Yes, I'm a bit of an Oz nerd. LOL!!)
trust me I am also that Oz nerd too, that is why I made this! I should also say that this version of my mine is the shorter version, but is more watchable as a movie. As the China Village, Fighting Trees, and Hammerheads are cut, but both are in the show.

I remember seeing this on a strange television channel called “This” (weird channel as it was, mostly showing reruns and the like of classic shows or movies, sort of a poor version of TCM. That and they would show episodes of this series every weekend at my grandparents house,very interesting animated version of the story. That and I then saw the VHS of the original film and put some things in perspective.
I live in Canada and when I was a kid they played this on a channel called SHOWCASE. I loved this show!

The production studio is a Japanese company, so to be precise, this is not a cartoon, but an anime.
The Japanese call every cartoon anime, not just their domestic product.

These are on blu-ray now in english and japanese I wonder if you couldn't get those. But I do understand using the older dvd quality versions.
The quality on those discs is SD, and for clips, I ripped them straight from the best quality source I have. The DVDs of the cut-down versions honestly look better. You also must understand that TH-cam compresses the video. The OG files look much better and are 720p.
