  • I started my bullet journal on July 25, 2016, so it's been exactly a month. Hope you find this walk-through helpful.
I don’t know why my camera was acting funny. Apologies for the grainy quality.

Hi, I'm Jenn! Korean-American from New York, currently living in Seoul, Korea. Brandon is my husband and you'll see him often in my vlogs :)
I LOVE beauty products, but have really sensitive skin, and my reviews are filtered through that lens. I'm also constantly experimenting with new things (whether that's product-related or lifestyle-related) and keeping it real here.

Hi Jenn, I love your channel and appreciate how thorough you are in all your videos as well as how you give credit and respect to all your resources; it goes to show how detail-oriented you are and honestly that's okay (it's awesome; there's a difference between healthy striving vs perfectionism)! I have to be honest, I do not watch TH-cam as often, so I am not a the most consistent fan :(, but when I do, I love watching your vlogs and how you come just as you are. As a fellow "recovering perfectionist," I totally get how tough and painful it can be (almost debilitating) when things do not align to how we want or want things to look like, but that process also requires us to be reflective about where all those feelings stem from. Idk if you know Brene Brown, but I am reading her book "The Gifts of Imperfection," which just spoke a lot of truth to me--just a recommended read :) www.amazon.com/Gifts-Imperfection-Think-Supposed-Embrace/dp/159285849X Btw, your messy is probably my neatest effort in handwriting hahaha. +I thought I was thorough, but you are on another level #bothhandsup. p.s. Can't believe there are yo-gureh-teh gummies*!! Going to look for that! Haha :))

    • @graceandgiggles
      @graceandgiggles  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

HI THERE! Wow, thank you for noticing all the little touches I put into my videos! I am blown away by YOUR detailed eye #bothhandsup indeed! I giggled at this :) I'm not on my phone otherwise, I'd give you two sets of those hands-up emoticons! I am very familiar with Brene Brown, but not with that particular book. I am so interested in checking it out! So happy you know what yo-gureh-teuh is, haha! Thank you SO MUCH for making my night!!

One option If you didn't leave blank pages... Index cont on pg 46 or something similar. Kind of one of the beautiful things about this system... You almost can't screw up its functionality... As long as your own personal taste/ocd/whatever will let you do things like continue the index on page 43.

For the make up shades page, just photocopy it and then glue it into your journal? Or you could copy it onto a large sticky note so that when you get a new journal you could just take it out and stick it into your new one with no hassle.

I think your bullet journal is from a german manufacturer. "Leuchtturm" is german for lighthouse and the german word is always the first, like "Seiten" is printed before the english "pages".
I just wanted to mention it because you said you cannot pronounce the name and when I looked closely at it I saw that this is a german word! :D I am german, so this can be funny for me. I do not see german words in english videos that often :P

This was such an awesome video! Love your collections! ☺️
A little tip for your index in the future, I only log my monthly spreads and collections, that way every page isn't indexed and you have more space in the index! For example pg 5 might be the start of my Sept monthly layouts and I'd write "Sept monthly 5-10". Then I know my dailies will be after. If I add a collection or notes, I'd write just that page next in the index, "Buddhism workshop notes pg 22" and move on with my dailies until my October Monthly or another collection. HTH! 😍

To quickly move pages: scan and print (or photocopy) your list and then glue or tape it into your new book. You may have to trim it to size. If you know how, you could also make your copy into a tip-in. 😉

Here's a little tip for consideration: I know you mentioned that you file your journals once you're done...
However... Since this is your "tester journal," if I were you I would just keep it handy as a reference journal once it's completed :) I actually have mine from when I started planning in my desk drawer just in case I need to reference addresses, birthdays, other lists, etc.

Your normal handwriting is beautiful and so simple! I'd say the best pronounciation for the brand would be leu-sch-t-tourm ("leu" from leukemia, "sch" from sugar, "t" from the alphabet t and "tourm" from tournament and the m instead of n), lol :) Your content in your journal is very well explained and this looks really creative and personal. I'd be 100% too lazy to do that though. Nice video!

This bullet journal is more functional than others I've seen, and I love your little doodles!
To solve the problem of the make up page you just could cut that page off and then stick it into your new journal, right? I think it would work fine :)

What also caught my attention in this video was when I thought I heard you say (at about 7:24) that you had written a chigae recipe in your journal. Did I hear you correctly?! I love Korean food and would love an 'easy' chigae recipe. Please share your recipe!

I can't believe you banned yourself from buying books... that's self abuse... I gather you have the same affliction as me(I regularly find myself randomly wandering into bookstores and spending over $150 by.... accident,.. yeah let's call it by accident) might I suggest a revision for the shopping ban list: more than one book.... I should put that in my bullet journal... when I start it.

Hi, Jenn. And idea to solve the make-up shade reference thing... if that actually is something that happens to you often, why not type those shades into Evernote and put the app on your phone? Then you can file away the journal and yet in the event someone does ask you about an older shade that is not in your current journal, you can pull up that info on your phone. Or, even easier, take a picture of these pages on your phone and sort them into their own album. Then they aren't in your regular gallery so that you'd have to scroll through a zillion pictures to find the one reference page you want to see. You can just go into that album, pull up the image, zoom in and answer the question! Just a thought. Thanks for the great video.

    • @Afaithfulmommy

Also, I really like that you actually add in a weekly plan ahead - like you would have in a calendar. I'm thinking I would miss that about my current calendar system. I think I'll try it too.

I know what you mean about not wanting to have to transfer collections over to new journals or have to rifle though all of your old journals to find something. I plan to keep my journals labeled with dates and volume number and then have a separate, small notebook, that is alphabetized for collections I want to easily refer back to. A master index that spans all journals. Maybe that will help you :)
Also, have you read about threading? If you were to run out of pages in your index you could just continue your index on the next available page and leave the page number on the bottom of the last page of your current index. IE) Index continued on page 145. Not ideal maybe, but certainly functional.
I loved to see your bullet journal! Thanks so much for sharing :)

    • @graceandgiggles
      @graceandgiggles  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Lori, you are a PRO!! Oh my goodness. I have not heard about threading before but that makes perfect sense, why didn't I think of that before? Haha :) Thank you SO MUCH for watching this and for these helpful tips. You're really good at explaining stuff, Lori!

+Jenn Rogers I was on the same page as you as far as collections. I know the notebook you have is wonderful, but in the future maybe look into a disc bound system? (Arc by staples and levenger are some examples, but I don't know if they are available to you in Korea) It allows you to add and remove pages whenever you want. When it is time for me to change over the calendars and dailies, I can without having to re-copy or thread or whatever. Also, one thing I didn't love about the traditional bullet journal was the randomness. I wanted my calendars in one place, collections together, etc. this allows for that. It isn't the traditional bujo set up, but I think the beauty of the bujo is being able to make it functional for you.

Pro tip, don't segregate a month into the weekly and daily sections, just label it as one section, as if it was a chapter. For example, june: page 5-15, instead of june calender: 5-6, june daily log: 7-15. Not only does it save you a lot of space in your index, it makes a bit more sense to have months by themselves and then anything else by itself (eg, doodles: page 7, 44-49, 62, 78, versus june doodles: page 7, august doodles: page 44-49, etc.)

SERIOUS QUESTION: I know that the Leuchtturm 1917 and the Moleskin ones are the most popular notebooks to start with, but as I've been watching, the paper seems to be thin and that the ink seems to show from the other side of it, you might not mind that, but I'd like it to not show. Any recommendations on which book I should buy/order that have thicker paper? I would still love it dotted and numbered!

I look forward to seeing more from you! New sub :)

A refillable journal (a mini 3-ring binder) would solve the problem of running out of room. It also lets you add dividers, remove "messy" pages, and transfer over important pages from old journals. Another way to save important pages - like the makeup shade page you mentioned - is to download an app like CamScanner and simply upload them into a google drive folder so you can access them anytime from your phone. Hope this helps!

Index hack- draw a vertical line down the page. left side is for specials (lists, notes, charts, etc.). right side is daily/weekly/monthlies. doubles the # of lines available and makes it easier to search for what you're looking for as they're now categorized.

Hey, I just stumbled on your video in my recommendations and I wanted to stop and say thank you. I have found some useful tips for me, like the context pages and not stressing about finding the most beautiful and artistic ways to arrange a certain page. For some reason I obsess over it and then end up not doing a useful page. It should be useful first and foremost, otherwise the whole bullet journaling thing loses its purpose, right? :) I also found it very cute, that you've doubled your subscription number since you've uploaded your video. So, thank you once again for sharing :)

Hey, Jenn! Amazing video throughout your whole bullet journal. I just ordered a dotted notebook from Leuchtturm and have never bullet journaled before, so I literally had notepaper out taking notes and ideas from you so I can have some ideas of how to get started! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that! I'm a little overwhelmed but if there's one thing I've learned about being overwhelmed with the idea of a task is just get started, learning along the way is just part of the fun!

In response to your makeup shade, and concealer stuff (sorry I am a guy, haha, don't understand this), scan it on a computer or type it up, and print it out. Then just glue this or attach it to your next bullet journal. This way you won't have to spend valuable time writing it out, and you would have no trouble keeping it up to date for your future journals....just a thought.

One thing I used to do when I finished a bullet journal and had collections I wanted to save I would cut them out and just store them in the back of the notebook since I always have a pocket (even if I diy one for myself). Afterwards, I'll record a list of the collections in the index with a "B" instead of page # so I know it is there. The other plus to this is that as you keep finishing bullet journals you can take a moment to assess if you're actually still using that collection when you move them forward.
