  • Today Mike (and his pug Mudcake) take a deep dive into the Arturia MiniBrute 2S analogue synthesiser/sequencer, focusing on how we can creatively utilize the extensive onboard patch bay and the bonus features of the sequencer to make an absolutely monstrous sounding techno drum machine.
    For more info on the techniques and principles that Mike explores, check out his accompanying article via our website here: noisegate.com.au/tutorial-usi...
    And of course, feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!

    Small correction: I realised that LFO 1 is actually hard-wired to modulate the filter resonance, so there's no need to patch it manually :)

      How do you sync the TR8 with Minibrute2s using the Midi? I have midi out on my TR8 going into the midi in of the Minibrute 2S and the brute wont play. Is there a setting in the Minibrute2s that I need to do? please help.

      @@Yourmom-ck7ss Have the hold (square) mode selected on the minibrute and press the sync button until "midi" is active. Then when you launch your tr8 it should launch the minibrute as well

    At first, I was frustrated by this video because I couldn't get mine to sound exactly like yours, but then I watched it again and understood more of what you were doing. Finally, I stopped trying to copy your patch and I made my own, and I got an _awesome_ drum track based on the principles you outlined in the video. Great job, and THANKS!

    From one Mike to another, gotta say this tutorial is on another level. Perfectly paced and so informative, love that 808 kick you got going. Your understanding of the patch bay is mind blowing, oh and the graphics you put to remind us what is doing what is very helpful.
    You said at one point that you ‘could lose yourself in this for a long time’ - video it, doesn’t matter how long it lasts, I’d quite happily watch.

    This is so good thanks for sharing! I was wondering if you could elaborate on how you incorporate the pedal though please?Would this work with pretty much any guitar pedal, or only certain models that send out audio at specific levels? And you don't need to use any sort of pre-amp or limiter to correct the levels? Thanks again!

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha, enjoy! Patching in pedals opens a lot of doors - just gotta be careful with the levels as modular signals are super hot and will often distort with pedals designed for use with guitar, but with some care it can absolutely be done

  • @TimesOfTheSines.official

    This is a fantastic tutorial... I chose to make inroads for investing into eurorack modular & started by finding 3 great semi-modulars. X2 Mother32's & then added a Minibrute2S & the bigger Rackbrute for add on modular things too... Tutorials like this are just what I want to learn, & begin to re-patch my brain to think when I work in my eurorack systems. The more I see how to patch & think in modular terms creatively... like this. The better it can only get. I have no probs understanding synthesis, started things in 1989. But I'm still mostly thinking about how to route things I start as a sound & sequence, without patching initially on the Semi-modulars. & then taking on some patching from there... But I am still thinking about modular, in a straighter line for what I know using traditional synths. I can see how to take this techno beat box concept & idea for routing things like this. With clarity to not just copy the tip... but go bonkers expanding & experimenting heaps from it. 10/10 tutorial, much appreciated for sharing.❤

    Hello, really enjoyed this!!
    Im really looking forward to buy this synth, but im having a hard time knowing if I will need any extra equipment to make it work. I don't have experience on audio...
    I have only a JBL Boombox speaker, with has an aux in minijack 3,5mm. I don't know if I can connect the minibrute directly to the speaker, or I need an adapter to transform the cable of the out of the minibrute to the 3,50mm.
    Also don't know if I need a mixer or something.
    As you see I'm really lost here and don't want to make an impulsive decision and then realize I need to spend more to make it sound. I will really appreciate your wisdom on this complex thing for a beginner, who want to start making alien noises and be happy.

    • @Noisegate
      @Noisegate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Moy,
      you can use the headphone output with a 1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor to plug in your speaker, that will work no problems. Nothing else is required for it to make noise, just some headphones or a speaker :)
      If you wanted to add effects like delay and reverb, or to record it, that's when you'd need to buy some more equipment to hook it up to a computer or recorder

  • @KalvinistKyle
    @KalvinistKyle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The hardest part of being new to this is understanding how to make a full song on t he 2s, only because I didn’t know how to make changes without affecting every sound...so im guessing it saves the changes through the track and you can keep building on the other tracks? It’s discouraging when the only “songs” you make have to be all of the same affects.
