It is wonderful to hear these combat vets tell their stories. Their stories vary, but they all share the common thread of honesty that allows the viewer to understand what they experienced.
Charlie lived in my neighborhood just a few doors down from me as a kid. And then he was a substitute teacher for some of the classes I had. All these years later, I am not sure why, but his name came to mind and to my surprise, here he is in an interview! Now, as a mature adult, I wished I could have appreciated his status as a wounded veteran back then. It makes me sad to think of how many vets I may have met over the years and never had a chance to learn of their experiences. This video is wonderful and has given me a chance to learn more about this American hero. Thank you for your service, Marine!
Charlie's a true inspiration.The attitude that he has,even though he was wounded so horribly,is amazing.And everything that he said regarding this country,the flag and freedom is spot on.Freedom and the United States are definitely worth fighting for.

Soo many soldiers . Soo many stories. To see this man infectious smile and to think that if they would let him answer the call again he would do it in a heartbeat . Eveb after being wounded and the loss of his limbs . This to me is the true deffinition of a true Soldier, Marine, Hero, and Patriot. Charlie man I’d love to meet you!! What a great patriot and what a great attitude!! You are a true hero and someone to look up to! My 1st cousin was in the Tet offensive and is still here. My uncle Gary made it through Vietnam and had to drive down to Missouri to sign his discharge papers and was killed in a car accident.. man so sad! God bless you brother!!
I've had the privilege to do several events with Charlie. He currently is not doing so well in a rehab center after another incident. Maybe say a prayer for him. Thank you.
You Sir speak my heart. We are the same generation and I remember the social situation then. I supported our troops; at least I was wise enough to know the difference. My youngest served Naval Aviation and was a wounded vet. She has the same gun ho attitude as you and overcame her injury to become a police officer. She had told me when i asked, what do i do if you are hurt? She said, mum be proud of me. We are a military family for 7 generations. Guess it is in our blood. The price of freedom is buried in the ground. Thank you for your service. I love your attitude and can do.

To put it mildly, everyone I've seen you interview has had amazing and truly insightful experiences that they have shared. Charlie Mason, this true gentleman's story is beyond inspirational. It's not so much the story though, it's the man he is, it's how someone can go through so much and come out having that kind of wonderful smile and outlook on life. You can measure a mans strength in many ways but I don't know that I've seen a more exact example of real, true strength than what Charlie displays. Sgt. Charlie Mason, you are a Marine’s Marine. I will think of you on June 22nd, as that’s the day I joined the Marine Corps in 1966. I was in Vietnam in 1967-1968, and I made it home on April 14, 1968… my mother’s birthday. May God continue to bless you as you continue to bless and inspire others. Thank you, and Semper Fi.
I have now watched many of these interviews. There is among these men and women, an integrity, a politeness, and a true love for our America. They are all inspiring and leave me with an appreciation for their service and sacrifice and patriotism. We are very lucky to have this quality of soldier and person as our own. thak you sir for your service to my country and my family.God bless you and your family.in 69 i was12 years old.i always thought of you as my older brothers.at 12 years old i was a hawk.i seethed at the protesters as only a boy could.i didnt completely understand the war at12 but i knew my older brothers were fighting bravely for my country.in catholic school the nuns had us write letters to you guys..i asked one of you to send me some grenades.i got a reply but no grenades.just as well.there might have been a few less protesters.LOL! i was 12 so cut me some slack.i have and always will support those who defend our country.as in every group there are a few bad apples.and as usual the media would pump the worst of the bad apples.the majority by far served honorably.and i thank them for the freedom i have today.god bless all who serve!the fallen are never forgotten .we carry them in our hearts everyday!

I am a Vietnam Veteran. I said that to a high school kid once. He just looked at me & said “I’ve never heard of Vietnam” are you shitting me!? “It’s said that you die twice, the first is on the day that you actually die; and the second is on the day that everyone forgets about you.” 😩
@@VoicesofHistory Thank you sir, since it’s considered that we didn’t win or lose in Vietnam, we just withdrew. Teachers think it’s not worth their time teaching students about Vietnam. Tell that to the parents of the 58,000 service personnel who died over there. Or the guys like me who got wounded over there. Sir, I beg of you to keep our experience alive. 🎖💜♠️🪖🇺🇸🙏👍

In my opinion, our fighting men did not loose the Vietnam War. Simply, our politicians lost the war by not letting our military win it.
This man is PURE Marine Corps. That combat performance standard was built by people like this.

thak you sir for your service to my country and my family.God bless you and your family.in 69 i was12 years old.i always thought of you as my older brothers.at 12 years old i was a hawk.i seethed at the protesters as only a boy could.i didnt completely understand the war at12 but i knew my older brothers were fighting bravely for my country.in catholic school the nuns had us write letters to you guys..i asked one of you to send me some grenades.i got a reply but no grenades.just as well.there might have been a few less protesters.LOL! i was 12 so cut me some slack.i have and always will support those who defend our country.as in every group there are a few bad apples.and as usual the media would pump the worst of the bad apples.the majority by far served honorably.and i thank them for the freedom i have today.god bless all who serve!the fallen are never forgotten .we carry them in our hearts everyday!

I am a Vietnam Veteran. I said that to a high school kid once. He just looked at me & said “I’ve never heard of Vietnam” are you shitting me!? “It’s said that you die twice, the first is on the day that you actually die; and the second is on the day that everyone forgets about you.” 😩

@@VoicesofHistory Thank you sir, since it’s considered that we didn’t win or lose in Vietnam, we just withdrew. Teachers think it’s not worth their time teaching students about Vietnam. Tell that to the parents of the 58,000 service personnel who died over there. Or the guys like me who got wounded over there. Sir, I beg of you to keep our experience alive. 🎖💜♠️🪖🇺🇸🙏👍
