What a change. when we were there in 1961-1962, there were few people on the streets most days and no one was on the streets after sunset. The doors were locked and those of us with US Navy shore patrol duty traveled with 6 Carabinieri in trucks or marched in groups of about eight to twelve. There were places where they were still recovering from WW2. The people were great to me and I have some good memories and we tried to help during those times as much as we could. We rebuilt an orphanage in Monreale, Italy (If I remember the city correctly). We repaired, cleaned, painted, wired the electrical, and more. There were a lot of good people. -wonderful memories.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I visited Sicily when I was a student 20 years ago and it was fascinating. Especially Palermo is a perfect example how different cultures enrich a city and makes it even more beautiful.
I woke up to your video and then really woke up when seeing the street vendors and their wares. Incredible ! I've never seen Palermo like this and will come back to it, share, and enjoy. I saw almost everywhere in lovely Italy, I live there in 1970 for 10+ years, it is my second Nation, Italians are the most civilized people in the world, I visited almost 70 different countries but Italy was #one in everything, but unfortunately when I visited last time, many things were changed by emigrants , they pea and... beside and on so historic, lovely, expensive, fantastic, unic, artistic..., buildings. This video is very complete and thanks to you. But where are so many Ciciliani. In this video, it looks like it is an abandoned city😢!!? Years back, you couldn't walk easily on the sidewalks without hitting the shoulder to others. Anyway, thanks for your nice video🌹🤞👏😘

Why are so many of the beautiful fountains, churches, and statues in town now fenced off? People used to be drawn to such places to rest, to visit, to love, to play...to remain connected, subconsciously, to their ancestors, to their past, to their history. It is sad to see these beautiful marble gathering centers separated from their people. Thank you for these videos with captions; they are such wonderful gifts. (Especially for the bedridden.)

AFTER WATCHING HALF OF THIS VIDEO TWO THINGS STAND OUT TO ME. The first is by my count there are 6 men to one woman. The other thing is almost no trash or debris on the street, everything is very clean and tidy.
Jest subskrypcja👍😊 Byłem na Cubie w 2015. Żona Cubanka😁Sytuacja ekonomiczna sje bardzo zmieniła i widoczny jest brak turystów porównując go do tamtego okresu. Lecz Havana sie nie zmienia…Tez chodziłem po Havanie cały czas. Zaczynałem od spaceru po malecon a później wchodziłem do centrum. Mieszkaliśmy u Citoki w Miramar. W tedy łatwiej było poruszać się między miastami autobusami. Taxi kolektiw ( po hiszpańsku un botero) łapaliśmy cały czas😊 Niezapomniany klimat i wspaniałe wakcje. Polecam każdemu wybrać się na Cube. Pozdro😁
It's called "Ape car" or "Lapino" or "Moto apa" It's a widely used vehicle in the area and throughout Sicily. Mainly used by street vendors. They sell fish, fruit, vegetables, street food and much more on it.

Thank you this is my first time through Sisley. I have recently found out that I am 51% Sicilian and trying to locate the majority of my birth family. This is fascinating.
So beautiful & so very magical, is Palermo, Sicily & the entirety of Sicily. I'm not directly Italian, but i do have some Italian ancestry & i do have some close relatives living in Italy. I so long to revisit, as i think Italy's a true gem,, from North to South, but i really love the South, it's gorgeous coastline & all of the islands of the South. Over the years, i'd always been told that i look very Southern European, yet, i never really gave much thought to this, as i had no idea. I grew up forming early friendships/relationships with Italian's & they always seemed to like me, or shall i say, love me! haha I always felt a sense of comfort & familiarity around Italian's & Southern Europeans in general. I felt back then, "I fit in, i'm @ home & i feel very welcome". I read with great interest, wonderful travel books regarding Italy. I learnt Italian, i watched my parents drinking Amaretto di Saronno & Limoncello. We bought Italian products, we ate plenty of good quality Italian dishes/foods & Mum made the best Tiramisu, plus other Italian desserts/cakes, we visited authentic Italian bakeries & watched the weekly tv show, Sotto le Stelle & the annual....San Remo Festival show, direct from Bella Italia!! Little did my family & i know back then, that come 2018/19, we'd come to find out, that we're all part Italian, Spanish & Greek, plus a whole lot more! We never knew, but our genes knew. Truly amazing & exciting news for us all & it really is, a small world indeed! My best wishes to all & may love and peace permeate our world, over hatred and evil. The first is by my count there are 6 men to one woman.
The other thing is almost no trash or debris on the street, everything is very clean and tidy.

Byłem na Cubie w 2015. Żona Cubanka😁Sytuacja ekonomiczna sje bardzo zmieniła i widoczny jest brak turystów porównując go do tamtego okresu. Lecz Havana sie nie zmienia…Tez chodziłem po Havanie cały czas. Zaczynałem od spaceru po malecon a później wchodziłem do centrum.
Mieszkaliśmy u Citoki w Miramar.
W tedy łatwiej było poruszać się między miastami autobusami. Taxi kolektiw ( po hiszpańsku un botero) łapaliśmy cały czas😊
Niezapomniany klimat i wspaniałe wakcje.
Polecam każdemu wybrać się na Cube. Pozdro😁

It's called "Ape car" or "Lapino" or "Moto apa" It's a widely used vehicle in the area and throughout Sicily. Mainly used by street vendors.
They sell fish, fruit, vegetables, street food and much more on it.

So beautiful & so very magical, is Palermo, Sicily & the entirety of Sicily. I'm not directly Italian, but i do have some Italian ancestry & i do have some close relatives living in Italy. I so long to revisit, as i think Italy's a true gem,, from North to South, but i really love the South, it's gorgeous coastline & all of the islands of the South. Over the years, i'd always been told that i look very Southern European, yet, i never really gave much thought to this, as i had no idea. I grew up forming early friendships/relationships with Italian's & they always seemed to like me, or shall i say, love me! haha I always felt a sense of comfort & familiarity around Italian's & Southern Europeans in general. I felt back then, "I fit in, i'm @ home & i feel very welcome". I read with great interest, wonderful travel books regarding Italy. I learnt Italian, i watched my parents drinking Amaretto di Saronno & Limoncello. We bought Italian products, we ate plenty of good quality Italian dishes/foods & Mum made the best Tiramisu, plus other Italian desserts/cakes, we visited authentic Italian bakeries & watched the weekly tv show, Sotto le Stelle & the annual....San Remo Festival show, direct from Bella Italia!! Little did my family & i know back then, that come 2018/19, we'd come to find out, that we're all part Italian, Spanish & Greek, plus a whole lot more! We never knew, but our genes knew. Truly amazing & exciting news for us all & it really is, a small world indeed! My best wishes to all & may love and peace permeate our world, over hatred and evil. PeaceKalashi Kashmiri Euro girl
