  • Billi still out here thinking I control the weather 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 12 years old, her favorite word is mad. Inspiration from Hunger4Words (check her out on IG).

      We tend to stick the human ways of communication on any animal we encounter. Maybe you don't want to know this but cats cannot communicate with people in the way we want them to... We just really want to think they do ;)

      @@whatarewedoinghere42 evolution occurs in little steps and therefore we have no reason to believe the human brain is fundamentally different from the animal brain beyond that we can communicate well with other humans and think certain thoughts more efficiently

      @@ZentaBon Unfortunately not everyone believes we’re animals and so don’t quite get that non-human animals have also evolved in an intelligent way. Cats and dogs started to evolve with us at a point and therefore learn from us. We have a larger vocabulary but it’s still word association so to some level it’s the same for them. They have feelings and thoughts too. They even dream.
      The world is a different place to people who don’t believe in or understand evolution or understand we’re animals and evolved from animals of an intelligence that once matched dog and cats. Not saying they’re stupid, just taught differently. But I feel there’s a lot of lost potential for understanding the living world around us (and our prehistory).

    I notice that you can be in another room and she still uses her buttons to communicate. It must be so frustrating for cats lacking the ability to use audible language like their humans, we know their meows are their way to attempt to communicate with us, but that doesn’t give them a large vocabulary. My cats use the, “find Mom and yell at her until she follows me”, kind of communication. Which is then followed by the, “make Mom guess what I want” and the, “no, that is wrong, I will go get Dad”. Oh, of course, Billi believes you can fix the weather outside, I am sure she understands that you adjust the thermostat indoors; my petite Siamese mix knows the sound of the furnace and races to lay on the register to get warm. Likewise, my house panther (a previously feral sleek black Siamese mix) loves his open window, but seems to appreciate food, shelter and all the amenities we can provide.

    • @spooniesarah
      @spooniesarah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sometimes cats will develop a reasonably developed vocabulary of vocalizations and body language. I can tell, generally, what a certain meow means for my cat (her name is Patina).
      For instance, I've noticed that a staccato "yip" is always a demand, something to be heeded this instant. Other qualities determine what the demand is. A very high pitched and somewhat breathy staccato yip indicates Patina's desire to hop onto my lap, so I need to sit back NOW to allow access.

    • @hobo-lu-knight
      @hobo-lu-knight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine uses a combination of meows and "pointing" behavior. She'll meow to get our attention, and then nod at what's bothering her, which can be anything from a shingle blown off the roof to her empty food bowl.

    Just found this channel. I am in totes shock and awe about this cat making up understandable sentences with the buttons!
    And in hysterics reading all the comments from all the cat owners all over the world!! 😂😂😂
    Also fascinated by the owner trying to keep up with what Billi is saying to her!
    We are now maid and butler to a stray that appeared about six years ago. He’s gone from distressed and highly defended to a Very Good Boy.
    A few interesting things though - he does not know how to play. He either thinks he is being attacked or he becomes overwhelmed by his own sense of excitement very quickly and then runs and hides. So we no longer try and play with him because it appears stressful to him, therefore is not in fact ‘play’ to him.
    He also does not like treats - he doesn’t seem to understand what they are and just looks at me like “Wtf? Where’s my whole bowl of REAL food??”
    He also asks for food and attention in *exactly* the same way, so daily we have to work out what he wants!! But after six years, we’ve nearly cracked it! 😂

I believe we all take for granted what they are saying because its not being spoken in English and in at our frequency.
