I love my Alba now that we've come to a better "agreement". It's just so totally different from the mill. And for someone doing it as a hobby that's a big part of the fun. It's the journey after all....
Excellent job Dean. Being a expert shaper operator takes time. Like you I am a beginner and always hungry to learn from other shaper operators. You have a great job in teaching me today. Thanks for bringing us along.
I'M WITH ALMOST MACHINING, YOU DID GREAT WORK, STARTING WITH CRAP, AND ENDING UP WITH A PRECISION CUT TURD, NO REALY ! YOU DID AMAZING WORK, !!!!AMAZING .AUTO DOWN FEED WOULD CHANGE YOUR WORLD , I THINK A-BOMBS SHAPER HAS IT, ( NO DISRESPECT MENT WITH THE TURD TALK, I WONDER IF IT COULD BE HARDENED THEN GROUND
Watched all the way through, then in reading others comments, had to then stop and watch Michels video that he left in a comment. Now my head is still spinning too, and my shaper is still in hundreds of pieces (@@)! But as soon as those upholstery jobs are out, back to main shop to give it attention it deserves :)> Michel's vid sure shed a lot of light on the subject, Thx for doing this video Dean, Bear.
Nicely cleaned up Dean, you are still persuading me to keep going with the Acorn Shaper lol. Love it, if mine comes up this useful I will be very happy. Cheers, Jon
The odd time I use the downfeed on my Alba I found that the best way for me was to keep my hand on the handle and let my arm and grip "ride" with the cutting stroke. But then on the return I lock my fingers so the change in angle between my arm and the ram "auto indexes" the handle a little. I find that this gives me a more consistent feed amount. Not perfect by any means but not bad for a hand crank that is oscillating too and fro. The block cleaned up super nicely! You thinking about drilling and tapping for a hold down clamp? Might come in handy for holding round items by permitting you to shift it around for odd steps using the V block as a sort of mini pallet for round pieces.
Thanks Bruce, Good tip getting that rhythm and mussel memory takes some practice. Both my shoulders are in poor condition, I was feeling it.. I like your drill tap idea. ATB....Dean
For feeding by hand, you will quickly get used to it. And here is a video from someone who shows a nice little trick for setting the clapper box; th-cam.com/video/5Yq5pFSosxQ/w-d-xo.html
Great job. I’m rebuilding a 7B as we speak and look forward to playing around with it.
What a difference! Nice work Deano!😊
Nothing like a shaper finish! Nice job.
Thanks Mark, and I agree 👍👍

Thanks Joseph !

Yeah manually having to down feed gets crappy quick. I would probably do more with my shaper if it had auto down feed.
Learning that quick...Lol
Thanks Tom !

Nice project but the is not Mr pragmatic lee’s idea it’s Mr Pete’s that he was using
I should have known, Mr. Pete was the inventor.. 😃
