I have been trying to get Alex to invent a brass magnet. I told him it would be instant Nobel Peace Prize :)
+ArtisanTony Brass is a non-magnetic alloy...
+Kai LEM it's humor
+Kai LEM That's why the magnet needs inventing! Anybody can make a steel magnet.
@@ArtisanTony You had me fooled there for a second!
Very cool products. You are right. Sometimes the simplest ideas are pure genius.
Excellent products, Sootch. Love the variety on your channels.
Great video as always!! Been using these "pecan pickers" for years dating back in the 90's when shooting competition. If their is steel mixed in just use a strong magnet to pull them out of the mix. Keep up the great work!
really liked this video. Having just got my first gun, having a way to pick up brass is great because I am also heavily into recycling
One of the things we do along our coarse of shooting or if we are in a fixed position is to lay tarps down before shooting. Works great every time.
Wow, so simple but yet so effective, this was awesome. Thanks Sootch.....
This will come in handy for us folks who are down in the back. Thanks!
I have had the shell sorter for 6 months and it sure makes seperating cases easy. Now I just have to get a brass wizzard to save my back.
Great video, thanks for the wisdom. I shoot on an outdoor range that doesn't mind if I pick up brass. I'm the only shooter that wants the brass. Find a scrap yard that will accept cartridge cases(some won't). Assure them you cull out any steel or aluminum cases and all live rounds and trade it for good soft lead. My last haul was a straight trade for a little over 200 pounds for excellent, soft sheet and conduit lead. Before that, I took home over $400. That was unusual, though- it took about three 30 gallon barrels full. That's a lot of brass.Makes a difference over buying it.
Why lead,
I'll be getting one of these Sootch, I'm a renter but have a range set up on my the property. I have to pickup all the brass by hand before my landlord mows and its a pain in the butt.
Fantastic ideas for picking up the brass, well done!
another cool tool presented by sootch. keep on doing 👍
Plus its good to pick up the brass so it does not sit rusting and ruining the soil like I have seen at public shooting sites where people don't pick up after themselves. Great Product!
Picking up brass is just the right thing to do. The brass wizard is great. Kinda like vacuuming. Please don't tell my Mrs I said that.
If you wanna speed that up and don't have that nifty contraption... Take your hat off and throw the brass in it... Lotsa experience picking up brass. "No Brass No Ammo, Drill Sergeant!!!"
Merry Christmas, Sootch.
Never heard of the brass wizard. Thanks for posting this
Hi Sootch. My buddy Gerald just got one of these and he loves it. We do a lot of shooting and handloading and nothing beats it. Been a long time viewer of your channels and they have helped me greatly with tips and gear selections. In fact I recommend your videos to anyone who is thinking about survival. Keep up the great work and thank you. A merry Christmas to you and your family and blessings for a happy new year!
I use the brass weasel all the time. The SmartWay is that when you're picking up brass and you only want pistol brass don't roll it over rifle brass. If you only want to pick up 45 then roll it over 45 only and not over the smaller calibers. You can choose what you want to pick up if you don't want 22s then don't run it over 22s. I reload 380 9 m and 45 so I only roll it over those cartridge cases. This keeps my sorting time down tremendously. Also in the straining containers there is an additional aluminum plate that you put inside of the yellow strainer it will sort 380s for you. I chose to buy my set from a dealer that provided all for strainers not everyone has the aluminum strainer for 380s. You have to have a Keen Eye to differentiate 380 from 9 mm this system I've been using for about 8 years and it has saved me hours of time well worth the purchase price
LOL busting a gut. Your comment about a brass magnet reminded me of a joke I played on a nuke sub merrier. We would try to beat each other in getting the most brass. He was always telling skimmer jokes ( slang for a surface sailor ). At that time he didn't know that I was a surface sailor. I got a piece of copper pipe with end caps, it also had a piece of 1/2" steel rod in it. Wrapped a coil of wire hooked to 4 d cells and a switch. I had a dozen 308 shells packed with steel barrings a d dirt. I got the range boss in on the joke. I called it a non-ferris magnet. I got him good. His C.O. asked him if he got it working yet. LOL
nice stash. i pick up my brass and any other that i can when i am at the range. i hope to reload. thanks for the tip. Mark
Nice work, thanks for caring about the Earth 🌎
I never would be able to review the "shell sorter set" because I can't say it without screwing it up! Great video.
Ive been using this system for years although I think my brass wizzard is under a different brand, was ordered from an orchard company but is their model for brass not nuts.
It almost seems counter productive at first as you will drop brass when you pick up a sitck or rock but the proof was how much more brass I started processing. It saves your back so you end up with so much more before you decide to quit. I have boxes full of sorted and cleaned brass that is probably mostly once fired.
I got to get one of these. I'm getting too old and stiff to get down, and the grand kids moved off to Kansas. I guess you could sort out the steel cases from the bucket with a magnet.
Just got one hope to use when the snow melts
I just watched your flashlight video at going gear loved it helped me chose a good light I love both Chanel's keep up the good work merry Christmas
+Connor Cole Thanks Conner, Merry Christmas to you!
My local outdoor range has been using these for a while. Work great if your keeping your brass.
The The Brass Wizard would be great to pick up my kids Legos
+Joy of Lego Good to know. I always wanted to reload Legos. I wonder if they have the trays to sort by brick size. Long live the Lego Republic. LOL
No such thing as Legos it's Lego end of
I usually find them when I'm walking through the room bare foot.
Great video. Thanks for the info.
How well does it work on 22 lr brass?
I use a construction magnet to get steel case out before picking up the brass cases. This also gets brass washed steel.
i got a garage net (for bugs) 20'x12' lay it out collects all brass even .22. cost about 20 bucks or so.
Thanks for the share its about time I get one of these
Glue magnets to the side and they will pull out steel casings!!
Merry Christmas
Thank you so much for this video I was just getting interested in how to start reloading .223/.556 rounds any helpful information is a good thing!!!!
I have those... I use to go to the range to shoot, and then I'd pick up all the brass and give it to the recycler. It usually was enough to buy a decent amount of new ammo. (To repeat the cycle of free ammo) I overdid it once when I filled a whole nike gym bag worth of brass; the range staff questioned what I was doing when it looked like I had 50-60 lbs of it (with the obvious gait that comes with the weight) and the whole store heard me jingling out the door. They told me not to do it again... (I didn't realize back then that is how the subsidize a part of the range)
in austria we use the brass wizzard for colecting nuts
Very clever!
Ty good job 👍👍
SensiblePrepper, I am pretty sure you have to turn the retriever a quarter around so the open spreads the wires apart instead of going through them
this is an awesome tool!!!! Added to Cart!
Small tip: if you fire revolvers, just empty brass into a box or your pocket. It looks cool to just dump it, but it sucks if you step on it.
hmmm, looks like it saves the back for sure (no bending), but it doesn't look like it's any faster than picking cases up by hand. Those sorting trays look like they could save me some serious time though.
Can you unscrew the brass retriever from the handle? I have a SOG Spirit, and if the handle would screw into it, it would have a dual purpose in my bug-out/range bag.
Westlake hardware sells those to pick up acorns
I love hunting for brass. Almost as much as shooting.
What companies offer store credit for your brass?
All you need is a bunch of Lcpls and below from the good ol' USMC and it'll get done in no time! Trust me I know
J Deagle
Or they give it to Chuck....
Looks good. But for that kind of money I'd rather just buy a couple of the 12x20 blue tarps (which I do have for this purpose). With two of those side by side, and rocks on the corners, you can catch almost all the brass you make (you have to decide where to stand when you shoot). I shoot in "farm grass" fields -- the grass is far too clumpy to roll around that brass wizard on it. I take a broom shooting, and sweep my brass up off the tarps. Pretty quick and easy.
they have magnetic bars u push to pick up nails off job sites works better cause it won't pick up rocks n nuts but will pick up brass n steel plus they come on wheels so u just push it around then pull a small lever to release I used them n they work perfect NO problems n pretty cheap
Will it work in the grass?
On concrete a broom would be best
It would not work on gravel....any other ideas? Our shooting range is in the Rocky Mountains and are great courses but all gravel unless you are under the cover and that is concrete but usually do not shoot from there depending on what you are doing on the range.
You can recycle the steel case stuff also. Just toss it in your scrap metal bucket.
You know I use the exact same thing for picking up pecans here in Oklahoma. In fact our nut house store sells the exact same stuff for half the cost...
i like those shell trays but $50 is steep for some plastic bins with holes
JOSE GUZMAN , I thought the same thing until I finally ordered a set. I wish I would've ordered them years ago. Crazy over priced, but definitely a huge time saver.
3Bucc brass catcher is a worth investment for AR-15 shooting.
Does it pick up .22? Because i think they are just to small
+Ala-eddine el ouazzani No, 22 Rimfire is too small.
+sootch00 It will pick up about 5-10 cases of .22 per sweep before it starts spitting it back out. The key is to sweep once, empty and sweep again.
+sootch00 Merry Christmas & Best Wishes for a Happy New Year! Really enjoy watching and learning from your channels, so Keep up the Good Work.
I do pick up brass I tumble it reload some of it and sell it some of it I turn into Boy Scouts have fun doing it
Thank you
No problem my dude
From a reloader's perspective, this was gratuitous brass porn
how well does it work on gravel?
Nice tool for old fat guys like me. I just ordered one, but had to get it from the company called Brass Mower. Brownell's was out of stock.
I earned the money to pay for my first black rifle by picking up brass at the local range. Back when ammo was cheap and you could get an AKM for $250 bucks...
I say range goblins should be picking up brass down the range like those golf ball collectors do at the driving range.
Our pistol range is grass (lie a lawn) and a section of shale... also, our rifle and pistol ranges are separated.
Send brass back to the manufacturer; interesting. Could you provide more specifics?
+7mm Reloader check out freedom munitions. www.freedommunitions.com/#&panel1-1
those are genius
Cool, Thanks Brother
Will it work on the grass to pick up the brass
whats the. difference between the brass wizzard and a normal pecan pickeruper
+Tactical Bacon Strips No idea.
about 30 bucks lol
+Tactical Bacon Strips Marketing effort and accompanying peper work.
Damn! If they would of had that 20 years a go! I would of never had kids! That is what they are good for, RIGHT? LMAO That's coming from an very old Brass Hound!!!
Thanks for the video!
where you gettting all that brass haha so much
Dam nice freaking video dude.
i wish i had one of these for range clean up in the army.. haha
A platoon of Privates can pick up a range in 5 mikes.
+11bravo1789 haha I know I used to be that platoon of privates.
Being a little nutty with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
I would make the plastic shell sorters
Remington Green
Winchester Red
Smith&Wesson Blue
Am I the only one?
Un my country this is for the recoletion to nuts jejeje because in spain we dont have many bullets jejeje
i bought one of these and their good only for big brass the small stuff keeps falling out 9mm 45 380 38 357cal's I gave it to a friend, a week later he gave it back
what ammunition companies take ones shot brass?
pretty damn smart mr.
How about picking from gravel ground?
Think I would get in trouble if I did this at an indoor range? Haha imagine if I went around picking up all the brass from all the lanes
Unless you are at a gravel range :(
we are.
Can we talk about the brass one day??
Hi, What are your thoughts using steel case ammo in a AR?
If you can afford not to shoot it...don't. No it doesn't wear out extractors etc. but it runs very dirty and is not that accurate. I shoot PMC but american eagle and most other brass shells are good. Try to stay away from reloads as well.
+bconiswhattheycallme ive shot steel ammo off and on. It seems to be hold the same accuracy as any brass I shoot. They have been fighting wars in Africa & the middle east on steel ammo for decades. Im not advocating its use. But it is accurate.
+11bravo1789 It holds a degree of accuracy. Russia has used it for decades. It depends on the caliber, bullet weight, brand of steel and brand of brass to compare. In general it is less accurate. If you pick up the brass you could sell it and come close to the type of steel.
will it work in heavy grass?
Would it pick up .22 rim fire
Hi my name is Jacoby I am 14 I am interested in. Self defense. And preparing but my. Parents don't. Agree so my main form of self defense in a flashlight with a blunt also my training in Muay Thai any suggestion advice would be greatly appreciated thank u
Hey sootch. Great video neighbor. Hey quick question does it work well on grass? Always great learning with your videos
looking for 30-06 brass
hey brother / its like panning for gold LOL / don't throw the steel out - put it in a 55 gal drum and turn it in for steel price (might have to use a dolly to load it )
This wouldn't work on gravel right?
Genius. In addition to those reasons you mentioned you should also pick up brass if you are in some type of wilderness. Leaving your brass out there is the same as littering. I like this tool.
Yep, I do it with a pecan roller. Much cheaper.
you should consider doing a school edc for those in high school.
+Vallie Collins Edc high school is either nothing, or everything you would carry not in school. You might be surprised how many of your classmates actually carry on campus... Never brandish, and that never comes out until it is time to use it, and if you do, run. Don't stand around waiting to be targeted.
+Dave Smith While I don't go so far as to carry a handgun to my high school, (Note that he is talking about high school, not college), I do carry my Osborne 940, my Zippo, and a leatherman Micra along with my wallet.
+GetTheFO Better than nothing. But be aware that in many states the crime is equal for carrying a folding knife or a firearm within a couple hundred yards of a school. Being a minor, assuming your firearm is not registered to anyone (such as parents, relatives, friends etc. as they can be charged for your crime if registered to them) it makes sense to have it just in case if possible. Better judged by 12 than carried by 6. Stay safe and on the straight and moral path.
opps forgot Merry Christmas brother
what kind of sorcery is this!!!
both ranges within driving range of me do not allow you to pick up your brass...I'm guessing they do not allow it because they sell it themselves
+Duke Silver That's not cool....
+Duke Silver Is it even legal ? After all you paid it, you own it. What happens with revolvers, do you have to throw the brass on the ground ?
it's only when it's on the ground...signs are posted not to pick up any brass once it hits the ground...i always keep my brass from revolvers, lever action, and bolt action
+Jean-Michel Nicolas NRA range in va does that shit.
+Jean-Michel Nicolas yeah the rule for a lot of places is that once the brass touches the floor it becomes their property. They do resell it to manufacturers
Why not stack them and shake all together?
