    The 500e is the only one of the three that will let you go for a 300-500 km holiday travel with more ease, both because of its better range, but more importantly because of its faster charging. It's nice to say "they all go from 10-80% in about 30 minutes", but from 10-80, the Fiat actually does it in 25 minutes rather than 30 (while the others are more in the 30-35 span) AND it has a larger battery, so those 70% charged are _more_ ... But even if you never leave the city, but can't charge at home: It'll make you go to the charging station at least a day or two later.

    kneee room vrs boot space. thboth probleems could have been solved easily with a movable back seat. either you move the seat backwards to het mor knee room, or if you are only two, move the backseat 15 cm in forward direction forward to get a lot of more bootspace. it would increase the practicability (what a monstrous word), and a small rail construction wwould ccost only little money....
    maybe someeone invents a solution?

    I feel like the 500e bespoke platform is a missed opportunity. They could have made it RWD and put a front trunk like the original 500. What they actually made appears to be an electrified iteration of the modern ICE 500. There's even a whole bunch of empty space in the back under the vehicle where a spare tire would normally go, but there's no spare nor extra batteries, just wasted space on a small car (where space is at a huge premium).

    I bought a Fiat 500e La Prima last June and whilst it is a great little car I have two criticisms of it. Firstly the remaining range predictions are hopeless and the claim that it could ever return 199 miles is ridiculous. I would suggets that about 155 miles is what you'll get if you drive it carefully. Secondly the software is absolutely abysmal. This may be becasue the La Prima model has so many sophisticated features which dont talk to each other properly but in any case mine has been upgraded a number of times and yet the software is still dreadful. The car was clearly released before the development had been completed.
    By way of comparisson I have just taken delivery of a Hyundai Ionic 5 long range with RWD. The software is excellent and works flawlessly despite the car being even more sophisticated than the Fiat and the range remaining prediction is very accurate.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say that Hyundai and Kia are about the very best when it comes to range prediction accuracy. I’ve driven long distances in Kia’s and they always instill a confidence in range accuracy.

      do you really believe the WLTP measueres? they have nothing to do with street reality, but only for COMPARING reasons. so it is a relative ranking. those who have a higher WLTP cionsuption will consume more in reality no car reaches these distances. and the infotainment/software ist really OK, it has a clear structure and works perfectly. the features are the same as in other models, and if you are intellectually overwhelmed by that, you should not drive a car. i have absolutely no problem with that. most of the features are not reaaly needed in daiy driving. if it overwhelms you you should avoid a tesla where for example the glovebox can only be opened with a touchscreen command in a sublevel.

    Id personal place the Mini Electric ahead of the other 2 cars. Watched a lot of reviewers and the Mini usually comes out as number 1. While the Honda e i think looks great, I showed it to a couple of friends and they though it looked like a Toy Car. Also an owner friend recently said the screens where a bit gimmicky and he was starting to experience a lot of creaking noises from the dashboard , which questions its build quality and how it will stand up on rough roads. He also said the Big screens are a distraction when driving, and that the Rear view Camera was useless at night as the picture was very grainy. The Fiat 500e while a pretty, well built car is not practical at all for Space. One viewer described it as a rocking chair when the regen kicks in the car rocks forwards and backwards making him feel nauseous. These where drivers with longterm experience driving the cars and having bought them while initially impressed they where looking to change and the Mine e was on their list despite being built on an ice platform. Guess it comes down to personal choice at the end of the day. Allways look forward to your reviews , whether we agree or not.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Stephen Fahy that is an interesting comment. One thing I did omit from my review was exactly as you mention about the Fiat's regen. It isn't as smooth as the MINI's or the Honda's and not being able to adjust it is a definite issue. So, hands up, and fair play. We forgot to mention that. Interesting what you say about the long-term ownership of the Honda, although we didn't find issues with our test car which has covered a reasonable amount of miles. You can switch the interior rear view mirror to a standard mirror in fairness though. However, what I will say, is that this was a very closely fought test. This wasn't just me, it was with my two colleagues, and we drove all three cars over a distance, and we swayed from one to another throughout our time with the cars. I love the MINI, and for pure driving pleasure, it can't be touched by the other two. Oddly, I think the Fiat (despite being the smallest and cheapest) was the most refined in terms of noise insulation, and of course, its the best value for money, and you can have a convertible. In the end, though, we all agreed that it was the Honda that we all wanted to live with. The extra rear doors, the feeling of space inside, the layout of the controls (not just the screens) and the balance of good performance, easy to drive, looks and how it made us "feel" was just too much for the other two to overcome. It was really tight though! And every time I drive that MINI, I just love it. And the Fiat is still close to my heart having had 3 500s personally, and I started my motor trade career with Fiat thirty years ago! Anyway, as you say, its a personal choice, and we love hearing from viewers such as you with your thoughts and comments to challenge ours. It's what makes this job fun! Thanks again for continuing to watch and support the channel, and taking the time to comment. Stay connected to us for lots of content coming up! Bryan, Rod and Charlie @ AutoEV.

    Thank you for being the only [honest] auto-journalist around, who acknowledges the superiority of the Honda e over it's direct rivals. My love for the e will be everlasting, even more so, that I won't be driving one on a daily basis. Because, let's be coherent here for a minute : a two cars home is not consistent with the ecological philosophy of the whole gobbledygook, and the Honda e can be many things, but not a family car for...family trips. So I had to find a replacement for my misbegotten passion. A replacement that has similar flaws to the Honda e (to heavy, too thirsty), but also the striking exterior/minimalistic interior design, some impressive technical features (those adaptive headlights are black magic)...aaaaand can achieve 300 km on a motorway-journey. You guessed it, the Polestar 2. When will you be reviewing the Polestar 2, by the way ?

      @@AutoEV Mea maxima culpa! After I covered my head with ashes (and diesel grime), I have to confess my clueless-ness, as to how I could have forgotten your excellent review of the P2-LR-DM (a distant relative of R2-D2). I watched it at the time, of course, but as my heart had only space for the Honda e back then, the P2 review slipped my derelict memory. So, will you be doing a review of the LR-SM next? Could someone finally tell the public if the SM really goes further on a charge than the DM ? I am still undecided as to which makes more sense. Well, of course the SM (cheaper, eligible for bigger government subsidies, less noise from the single motor, less chances to end up in jail with a 164 km/h restraint, etc), but the 400 ponies make so much more fun. And it feels more stable on slippery roads (despite the extra weight)... If heaven on earth existed, the perfect garages of paradise would each contain a Polestar 2 (with the autonomy of a BMW i4) and a Honda e (priced like a Dacia Spring).

      you must take into account that the batteries are (still)exensive, they make half the price of the car! but on the long run they are cheaper in maintaining becausethe don´t have hundreds of parts petrol cars need to work. the only parts that wear out are brakes and tyres, like any other car. but that´s about all. there is only the battery, the e-engine which never wears out, and the charging electronics.

    i was looking to find the trunk problem. sorry to say you diddn´t try hard enough for example the fiat: two flatlaid suitcases piled, and one upright, besides. that would surely fit...or if you lay them on their side, one behind the other and two upright besides in the same order... there might be enoughh space, sorry i can´t send a picture here, but i think you understand
    i think if the suitcses were strored more intelligent it could be four. you didn´t try hard / long enough to find sevceral solutions.
    additionally i must say: i would try out suitcases the way that they fit in an optimal way. in your example: it the two suitcases were only about 5 cm less (upright measure) the two would have fitted with two more on top, i say that in other clips where they had used suitcases of different size for an optimal COMBINATION
    i would recommend that yo make a "better" boot test....
    concerning the rest you did a really good job
    ( forgive mistakes if i made some, i am not a native speaker)
    by the way: it was not only the battery but the look as well, which let me choose the fiat. the honda looks like a playmobil car.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy, I take your point on board, however, when we reviewed the Renault Zoe and kept saying that it was a city car, and so range wasn’t important, I was criticised for saying it as many don’t limit the car’s use to the city. Therefore range has to factor. Also, in terms of space, these cars can be used on the school run, so back seat space is important there in that instance, hence the Honda being better for having 5 doors. However, after all of that being said, the car with the shortest range, and smallest boot won the test, so as you can see, we didn’t prioritise it over the ability of the car to be fun and put a smile on your face. Hope that helps explain our reasons. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Bryan @ AutoEV.

    All junk poser cars, no range..way tooo expensive... test drive any lecky car on a average bumpy road before u buy... this will make your decision easy. U bounce all over, heavy cars hard suspension to cope. Bad brakes. Lock up if u brake on metal road grids especially in rain. Slide.. dangerous. later in Decade they will be better all round.. but these early ones are all Rhubarb. Had 2. Test drove a few, all bad on bad roads.. now got Prius.smooth ride Superior to any electric car.. except for high end ones.. but there not for average person.

      if it wasn´t impolite i would call someone whith these arguments and opinions an idiot. i bet you never drove any of the three.
      i have the fiat and it is not bumpy. the brakes are really good: 36m/100 kmh. my urban rane is ~350 km with 11.5 kWh/100 km. sspension is very ok, because it is an urban car hhere streets are flat, and it is not a racing car. you are totally prejudiced. i taket any bet: if ever you would drive a fiat 500e as a test you would change your mind. it is an urban car for a single person or a (older) couple like us. we do not miss our BMW active tourer for only one second. it has all we need. it has no 100´s parts like a combustion car that can wear out or break down or must be exchanged regularly. inspection is done in 30 mnutes and costs less than just the oil for the BMW. look inside the motor cabinet. all you see is the electronic part with the orange high voltige cables and the bottle for windscreen wiping. there is nothing to maintain than to fill that and exchange the break liquid every two years. no weak sstarter battey in winter. the only things that wear out are brakes, tyses and windshield wiper as in any other car.the price? it is expensive because of the batteries. if course it is no choice for a narrow minded petrol head.
