    These games were aimed at tabletop war gamers or those of us who don’t have room for a table. They’ve been around forever and they’re a blast. They’re like chess on steroids with a great back story. RIP the master John Tiller, btw.

      Haha, its a monster. Haven't played that particular scenario myself but I have started the feeble 524 turn Jena Campaign! The Austrians just never did it for me but I can see the appeal. Its a very good title and everyone always has it high up on their suggestion list. Enjoy :-)

      Just started a Jena myself. Very green at these titles had Borodino and Wagram for years without playing then came the bulk buy deal linked with the winter sale.. Picked up Waterloo Austerlitz Jena and Leipzig started a few PBEM's and loving it. Plays very different from the Panzer Campaigns and ACW titles I'm so familiar with but getting things right is harder. Biggest hang up I have at minute s thinking things have to be disrupted before melee in PZ and ACW apart from a few occasions that's a must not these babies though

    First of all, excellent video. So comprehensive and helpful. Also, quick question: How easy is it to mod the OoB files? For instance, if I wanted to take a pre-made division from one battle (cut and paste) and fight it against a pre- made division from another battle, how easy would this be to do? Or, if I wanted to edit an OoB to significant level so that the finished product looked very different from the original, could this be done, or would be incredibly time-consuming?
    Thanks again for your work on this!

    i got the 7 yrs war as my 1st foray into JTG. My only complaint is that the AI is so awful it almost makes it not challenging enough to play. Tried bumping up the opponents advantage a bit but still have AI units that run around in meaningless circles etc.
    3 scenarios into it as the Austrians vs Fredrick the Great and my victory margins are astronomical .
    Either Fredrick was not so great , or i am ?

    • @cbblackard
      @cbblackard 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm playing the Frederick the Great title and, as I do with all Tiller titles when playing against the AI, I tend to ignore the numerical victory conditions and, instead, grade myself based on the position of my forces at the end of the scenario compared to the actual historical outcome. For example, I played the Maxen 1759 scenario as the Prussians and though the game reported that I scored a major victory, my forces were surrounded by the Austrians at the end (exactly as they were in the actual battle).

    • @desktopgrenadiers4321
      @desktopgrenadiers4321  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, all the titles will have some smaller scenarios and skirmishes. Often, a big battle is broken down and you can play just a small part of the scenario. Republic Bayonets and Marengo would be a suggestion for smaller battles

    Thanks a lot for this video. Been a years long PzC, MC, SB and more recently a PB player. I've avoided pretty much every wargame covering a conflict before the 20th century, yet I've recently acquired an interest in the Seven Years War and the Napoleonic Wars. Doubting whether I should start wargaming them out of the bat!
    As for JTS titles, have you played the SYW? Would you suggest it over Napoleonics? Many thanks.

    • @desktopgrenadiers4321
      @desktopgrenadiers4321  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 7YW as well but didn’t enjoy it as much, it plays slower than the Napoleonic games and cavalry and artillery use is different. Not that it’s a bad game. I’m a huge fan of Napoleonics so naturally I would suggest them. The biggest difference between the two periods has to be combined arms Warfare and the Corps system. You must use infantry, cavalry and artillery all together to succeed, make use of the terrain and scout.

    I have one word (two in fact): Thank you.
    It's good to see the point of view of such an experienced player of the Napoleonics battles series.
    It would be awesome if you could point out (maybe give some dl links if possible of course) some of sites/files that you used to mod your games cause the graphics (2d counters, units pics, 3d units) of some titles are just fantastics (and i can't figure out where you got this ahah).
    A little question about modding: is photoshop a good one to mod your game or is paint the "go to" for the JTS games ?
    Thx in advance.
    PS: I hope we can have some battle when i get more experienced in those napoleonics games.

    Waterloo is very overrated. Both in historical significance and as a wargame scenario.
    French forces were heavily depleted. Napoleon's defeat was inevitable, if not by the British then by Austria and Russia. So, I highly doubt it changed the course of history by a great extent. It was a very lopsided war, which is not conducive to good wargaming.
    Many legendary generals of the time were not present. Great Marshals like Lannes, Bessieres etc were dead, and others like Davout, Murat, Suchet were not present. Nor were Kutuzov, Archduke Charles etc.

    JTS titles are for Multiplayer...
    1)The biggest drawback is units can only make 2-3 attack all day. After the 2nd attack they are so fatigued they are worthless on the attack.....
    2)The AI is so AWEFUL(Braindead/after thought).....If you want to play Single Player give this one........ a Huge PASS
    3) the sadest part is JTS has not really improved these games from the Originals that came out 20 years ago. Just rehashes..

    • @desktopgrenadiers4321
      @desktopgrenadiers4321  ปีที่แล้ว

      1) That depends on force preservation and how you use them.
      2) They never portray that the AI is groundbreaking, something to shoot at and be shot at from. Nothing more than that. Managing expectations is key. Smaller scenarios the AI is poor, not awful
      3) I have 7 pages in front of me listing the updates that each title has gone through in the last 20 years. And they continue to strive to listen to fans and imporve the engine and experience
