I have literally been writing since I was six (I'm seventeen now). I write poems songs plays and books. I get so self conscious about my writing. Especially since the only time I showed someone one of my plays I was twelve and my best friend pretty much ripped it apart. I haven't showed anyone my writing since, so I know what that's like.
Honestly Hailey I completely understand your want to hiatus of social media. I'm so distracted during the day because of Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook so I uninstalled them all for like 2 weeks and I felt so much happier within myself that like I actually got into a better routine of living and sleeping day to day. But I missed them in the end so re-installed them but I'm thinking of like setting alarms or memos on my phone to remind me not to constantly just scroll through the feed to pass time when I could be doing something more productive like sleeping 😂 so yeah I totally understand your want to do that I'm just glad you don't hiatus on TH-cam because your weekly reading vlogs are amazing. I'm starting my own bullet journal and trying to focus more on reading like you 😊

Relate so much to the pressure of completing the first draft and comparing to finished works. Is my plot twist too obvious? Is the pacing too choppy? Have I showcased this charcter too much or not enough? Are the relationships shown properly? Is this info dumpy? Have I spent too many words on setting or dialogue or inner thoughts? I think you're making the right choice. I restarted my writing project at 30000 words. Thankfully i can reuse most of what I wrote, but I changed to a multi perspective story cause too many important characters were separated for too long period. Its a good choice for me, but it kills me that I havent finished my first draft yet. And im back to my outline.

I find myself constantly reading reviews and wondering if the things people are bothered by in someone else’s book are in my story and how to edit it out, etc. It’s so exhausting, but knowing that it’s only the first draft definitely helps. Nothing is set in stone and anything you decide to change later, you can. I hope your writing is going well. 💜

The Discovery of Heaven is definitely a staple in Dutch literature, along with one of his other books, The Assault. You should definitely pick that one up as well, as it takes place in The Netherlands during WWII, which I know you love.

I just looked up the price of an XL Tim Horton's coffee, converted the price, and am totally astounded right now. You only pay around $3NZD for a huuuge one. In New Zealand, normally a small coffee is $3-$4, and I'm not even sure if we have XL. Large is usually around $5.50 or $6. It's mental.

Ohhh Harry Mulisch's books are so difficult to read. He is Dutch and I read the original Dutch version and to be honest, I didn't like it (it was huge, very descriptive, and a bit boring) and I usually love books about WWII! I hope you like it better than I did! Although, I have to admit, this book is seen as one of the best written Dutch books of all times and won several awards! By the way, you pronounce his name like the "MU-sound" in "Mulan". :)
I LOVED Ready Player One even though it was almost totally different to the book. I thought they did a really good job as it's such a hard book to transfer to screen. What did you end up thinking Hailey?

If you like circus-themed books, you should read 'Walking on Air' by Eva Ibbotson. It's middle grade but it's really good.
