Assembling the Sickle Bar Attachment for BCS Two-Wheel Tractors

- The BCS Sickle (Cutter) Bar Mower is a useful tool for mowing hard-to-reach areas and one of the original attachments for BCS Two-Wheel Tractors. At least two sizes are compatible with all BCS tractor models. This video explains how to properly set up the mower.
Please note that the Sickle Bar Mower should NOT be operated at full throttle! BCS recommends operating the machine at a 1/2 throttle setting.

Mine has a plastic drive bushing adapter with spring steel to the blade, is the newer full metal one the replacement?
Is there video on the tightening of the attachment knots n bolts? I understand there is a self-tensioning sickle bar and I dont havd that one. I'd like to know how I should adjust the tensionjng... whatever that means. Thanks
Hi Shayne,
No video on that yet - but we can share some advice! Almost all the hardware can be adjusted with a 13mm wrench and should be tightened to between 17-20 ft-lbs. Blue Loctite is okay to use on these.
The large nuts that hold the cutter bar to the transmission should be tightened to 100 ft-lbs.
The gap on the bushing pin (that pushes the blade left or right) should not exceed .0010".

I have BSC sickle bar mower I purchased in the mid to late 90s. Can I get a plastic shroud to replace the original one?
Yes! BCS is made to last decades and we have parts for most older models still available.
Sickle Bars can be pretty tricky. From your info, there are three possible guards (shrouds), we just need to determine which one you need. We have all three in stock. Do you know if it is a single action or duplex sickle bar? Oil bath transmission or greasable? Serial number would be useful too!

Yes, the Mowing Sulky can be used with most front-mount attachments. It can definitely be used with Sickle Bars.
I have the same torx transmission on oil only that I don't have that black vertical piece of plastic in the middle. Is it a short oil bath?

To measure the oil level in the transmission can I use any piece of cardboard?
