    Susan you are absolutely brilliant! I get it...most of the time I understand it but I 'get it'. I know what you're saying and I'm watching it happen. I have a video taken today of the WOW game and my super beautiful dog demonstrating it perfectly and just today, we did a recall, off a moving, airborne frisbee! A MOVING IN THE AIR FRISBEE! Recallers is the best on line class, I have ever experienced.

    I am using bubbles to help one of my client dogs. He loves bubbles but not the neighbor's dog. We are building the use of bubbles into his recall so eventually we will have transferred the value of the bubbles to his food. He likes food but not as much a bubbles. So fun to have this podcast to show the family.

    Thank you for your brilliant insight! I would like to know how to train without verbal cues as my 13 yo child is Deaf & mostly non verbal. She is very smart and good with the pets, but she mostly uses lures and I would like to teach my child better how to train her own dog. The dog is 19 months old and the dog does well with verbal cues. She also trains her cat, with all luring. TY for everything you’ve done for us sharing these videos. You’ve made a huge difference in our lives!

    This video and the one previous is exactly what we needed. I now understood the significance of one of the HSD games, which I have not played enough. We will play more of that because I believe the game could help transfer the value from food to tug for my dog. Thank you very much!

    Another awesome video! And thank you for the “out loud laugh” I got when you were explaining how the dog went “cra cra” over the Bubbles. Omg. Too funny! I could picture it. I discovered this “transfer of value” through watching your Dogs That videos. (and H360,AN) It really is an Ah ha moment when it works for you and your dog. Wish everyone who trains a dog could discover this “gem”

    A very interesting episode, thank you very much.
    You emphasized here that dogs need to understand when they will earn reinforcement. Could you comment on the reverse - how to convey that it's not reinforcement time yet - they have to wait a bit?
    In our training class, my dog knows she will earn reinforcement and when she has to wait her turn on a bed (because there is some explanation or because it's not her turn yet), she is prone to excited barking in anticipation of food coming. I think she associates the whole training environment with FOOD. Could you share any tips on how I teach her to wait quietly in this high arousal environment?

    ??? How would you do rattlesnake training? I live and hike in an area with a lot of rattlesnakes. They generally do a one time shock collar training to teach them to stay away from rattlesnakes. Look forward to your ideas and thoughts.

    I really would love my newf to do agility or training for swimming but all he wants to do it’s sniff and eat the grass or chase the other dogs. It’s such a struggle, food, toy, clicker nothing grabs him. I know it’s me but I don’t know how to grab his attention

    So let me get this straight I'm new just started seeing this today. How you train your dogs is a clicker saying cookie and then giving your dog the cookie? I just got a little ankle bitter on Sunday he's a Yorkie Bichon mix and I was trying the baiting style because I was watching McCann dogs here on TH-cam and that's what they do but this dog is not responsive to food. Not even its own kibble even tho it's the same stuff he's been eating from the place I got him from. He's not excited by any toys but what he does like is when my 12 month old is crawling around and gets all over him but my baby hates it so not really sure what to do

    My ah-ha moment was how well I was actually doing with my training for tugging. Win doesn't like it, so I will be reviewing your podcasts on emotions and anxiety next. And I will go on over the the Recallers site to ask some questions, but it good to know that I am on the right track. As always, thank you and your team for coming up with such creative and inspirational training opportunities for us.

    Thank you so much for this, and all of your episodes. Re transfer of value (bubbles to food for the German Shepherd), target, CLICK, FOOD, TARGET, no click......and then SAY BUBBLED and race to the bubbles? Or.....target, click, food, target, CLICK, FOOD, SAY BUBBLES and race to the bubbles? (I understand the ping ponging of the numbers of times dog get food vs bubbles, etc....its the last sequence before going to the bubbles I need to know.) Since my dog is so so about food and I want transfer of value from, say, the ball, to food, should 'the dog's LAST ACTIION BEFORE THE BIG REWARD (BALL) BE TO TAKE THE FOOD? Or is the LAST ACTION BEFORE THE BALL IS TO DO THE TOUCH, then get the ball (on the variable schedule of course). Thank you.

    • @RaptorsGirl
      @RaptorsGirl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your first suggestion of the procedure was correct. When say bubbles no click, no food.

    Do you have any tips for me to combine my boys favourite reinforcement with his overstimulation? In context, he ALWAYS responds if I call him and throw ball to chase or run in opposite direction (mainly to stop him running away to chase a dog across the park)- BUT when he gets that excitement rush he quite often triggers too…..so he will chase the ball then come back to jump and bite my arms and legs etc. He is an 11 month old husky - he isbetter and calms down quicker than he did asyoung pup ( thanks to your podcasts) , but damn it still hurts. Can you combine the 2 aspects or is there something Else I should be doing? He does not accept treats as a reward for recall even when it’s super high value, and if I’m not exciting enough he won’t even listen! It’s crazy but it’s like the recall is too exciting for him to handle LOL. I’m stuck for ideas!

    thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I enjoy that. I have 2 questions Susann: To keep value on your reinforcement, you need to use sometimes the bubulle (in the case of this dog) to avoid he loose the interest in your standard reinforcement? (food or whatever?). The other question is about dopamine: you explained that if the reward is below expected, you block dopamine for a moment, or no dopamine if reward = expectation. So I can not figure out how it is possible to keep interest in training? Without increasing value of reward all the time? sorry for my poor english and thanks for your answer. :)

    I called a dog club to sign up for a class as I was on the phone my 10 week old puppy starts barking at his old brother she said to squirt her with the biggest water bottle.. I was upset I want my dog to get positive reinforcement not negative also I want my dog to like water if she wants to. Another thought came a cross my mind was when it starts raining she will think she’s doing something wrong.
