That’s definitely nothing like how Afghans do a proposal. You send your mama over to the girls place, talk it out for a couple of times. Then your dad goes over to the girls place, discuss issues and then it’s sealed with a box of chocolates.
That tradition doesn't fit the time today. I think many would prefer the couple to know and like each other beforehand. Then you should turn on the family, who just give them the ok.

Afghans for the most part do not have such traditions of the guy proposing to the girl and she accepts the proposal and then drops the bombshell on her parents and family. Maybe some really secular Afghans may be ok with such concepts of marriage proposals but the vast majority do not. Traditionally the guys family come to the girls house and ask the parents for their daughters hand in marriage even if the guy is not Afghan.
