    Thanks PJ and crew at Lancaster Archery. This was a super fun interview and a true honor to talk to a legend of the sport. Thanks to everyone for their support. I'm as small of a business as you can imagine and it means a lot. There is always the debate on do you need a quiet vane or not. With these you get a very quiet vane as well as an incredibly stability one, so why not have both. These are quiet because I use the air much more efficiently than other companies, but still have a large surface area on the back for stability, but still less overall surface area than a Blazer. There's more to these than I can type, but I appreciate everyone that gives them a try. These are can also be fletched with any tool on the market Bitzenburger, Arizona EZ, VMP, etc no special clamps required.

I've used vanes of all colors and settled on pink vanes and nocks so I can see my shot placement on Vegas faces, field faces, etc. But I'll certainly try the original white ones in the meantime. Congratulations and thanks for creating such a finely engineered, pioneering archery product. Please design shafts, bows, you name it! We'll shoot it!

    I tested these at 50 yards for groups and 100 yards for drag and stability. I put 5 arrows together that were weight matched and used 4 different style vanes for each set of 5. For groups, I pulled the arrows at random. Shot them at 50 yards and then checked the groups. The DCA vanes consistently grouped worse than the other vanes. At 100 yards, the velocity had the highest standard deviation. All vanes were fletched with a 1.5° left offset in a 3 vane configuration.

      They look god awful too IMO. I have also heard pretty mixed reviews on these. Not going to bother with trying them when there are so many outstanding vanes already out there.
      For anyone that cares to listen/read about vanes and vane stuff, I have tried a lot of the big name vanes and will give a run down on my experiences... **This is copied and pasted from some previous posts and I compiled it together best I could. This is all my opinion and my experience... if you disagree or do things different, that's awesome, let me know and maybe I will try it out!
      ----------------------------------------------------
      The Tac drivers have been excellent for me. All mine have stuck incredibly well. They are literally welded on and will take carbon off if you have to remove them. Just take your time to fletch them well and use a primer. Acetone and a q tip works fine too for those that freakout over needing a pen (used to be me). I also scrub the base pretty darn good with the pens or acetone. Probably a solid 6 swipes back and forth with lots of acetone... then I dab the glue on immediately after. I do 1 vane at a time. Acetone dries faster than you can work most of the time. I also use the BSI super thick glue FWIW, and have tried the BSI gold recently, which is also odorless... Its nice for long hauls on the jig. It is thinner but it has worked extremely well. 2 degree left helical on a bitz for everything from hunting arrows, to 50m, field, 3d to indoor. From 4mm to 27's.
      Also really like AAE max vanes. The hybrids are a bit more floppy feeling and weak IMO. Definitely lacking compared to the max vanes. Acetone works fine to use on the max. Scrub the base well and they will be welded on. Their new airazr's look pretty decent. It seems like they are AAE's answer to TAC - light and stiff. Wouldn't mind seeing what they are like one day.
      Latest vanes I have been messing with are the bohning heat and x3's. The material they use is excellent. Its fairly light, quite stiff, stick great with or without acetone, look awesome. All around great vanes. Some friends use the regular X vanes with blazer material and they love them too. Can't go wrong with bohning vanes.
      I have used flex fletch with some decent results as well. Their vanes with their logo printed on them are decent quality. I got some that were plain with no logo once though and they were total junk. Looked like an infants art project. Their SK line seems to be pretty well liked. I did like the thin bases on them which is great when you are shooting a blade rest. These vanes are on the softer side of the scale.
      Vanetec used to be my go to because of price....but they have gone up a bit now. I like to use white vanes though and vanetecs white is garbage. It will be cream colored within a month or 2. They are also lacking in overall quality compared to the others I mentioned. Very soft and rubbery material. They do have decent profile/size options. They always flew quite well for me.
      Only other vane I can speak to is Q2i. They are always a solid pick. Lots of options. A bit on the heavy side though. Stick super well. They are a perfect mix of stiff/soft and have plenty of profiles to pick from.
      Now for feathers..... leave them to the recurve shooters, lol. I have used them for indoor arrows in the past and they have performed well. Suuper light weight and give decent control. They get pretty ratty looking too fast though, especially if you shoot tournaments and have your arrows in and out of bags and stuff. For outdoor use, consider waterproofing them. For compound, I personally only see them as viable on indoor arrows in a 3" or 4". Also should note, they are directional for helicals. You must buy the right feather to do a right or a left helical.
      As for vane profiles and performance, parabolics will almost always be quieter, and in turn they provide a bit less stabilization and drag. More drag = more control... Shield cuts are often louder, but tend to provide more drag and stabilization from the air vortex off the rear of the arrow. Low profile vanes duck the wind better of course, but sacrifice stabilization. The taller the vane is, the more control it will give the arrow. The air flow near the arrow shaft does not provide the same amount of control as the air flow near the high point of the vane. This is why blazers are so well liked and used by factories... they stabilize quite well because of their height. I prefer stiffer vanes personally. I feel they get the arrow spinning faster, are usually quieter, and they have less wind drift. They may not provide as much drag as a soft vane though, which may mean a bit less control on the arrow. Stiffer vanes will also keep more down range speed than a soft vane and have a slightly flatter trajectory. As for helical, there is no gold standard, its largely just preference. I run all my arrows in a 2 degree left helical and it works great on everything from 4mm to 27 indoor arrows. I'm not a big fan of the AAE max helical unless you are running a 2" or less vane. Its a bit overkill IMO and provides an unnecessary amount of drag for the vast majority of applications. The parashoot effect is a real thing at longer distance. Last thing I will add is that a 3 fletch is my preferred configuration. A 4 fletch is just adding more weight at the back and will make the arrow more susceptible to wind drift. Yes, it will stabilize the arrow more than if the same vanes in a 3 fletch, but if stabilization is an issue, I would just use a slightly larger 3 fletch, over a slightly smaller 4 fletch. There is nothing that a 4 fletch can do that a 3 fletch cannot.
      Anyways, that is my rant on vanes, lol. I have tried more vanes than is ever necessary, and this is just my experience and opinion on the matter. Gather your own information and experience, as confidence in your gear is almost as important as the gear itself.

      @Muskiehunter92 I'm not trying to bash DCA, but I haven't seen the real-world results with them. I have no brand loyalty. If they worked for me, that's what I'd use. If you're interested, I tested some 4mil Altra arrows and had great results. They're a bit on the heavy side, but they're tough as hell. I'm running 350 spine now at 70lbs, 80% LO, and 29" DL. Arrows cut at 28" tuned well. The 300 spine also tuned well but dropped like a rock at 70 yards. I'm running heat vanes on them. Might test Victory VAPs next.

      @@sjmonty19 I disagree. There’s a reason they call it jumping the string, not “the arrow when it gets close”. I’m a bow hunter too, and love tinkering with all the new archery products. I just don’t think that the vane noise makes any difference when hunting. Find a vane that steers your broad head well and your good.

    • @careyhamil
      @careyhamil 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CecilBrown1620 I agree with stephen. Go to a baseball game and sit behind home plate. You can hear a baseball and the wind shear created by air being forced over the surface of the ball.
      The reason deer may be reacting to the noise of an arrow rather than the sound of the bow, can be explained possibly by the deer have to locate the sound of the bow, but the arrow noise is constant and quickly approaching them, compared to the bow which is isolated to the shooters position and quickly disappears.

    • @michaelcolthart4006
      @michaelcolthart4006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CecilBrown1620 yes, there is a reason….and that is people don’t know any better. Put a target near a tree, stand behind the tree, have someone you trust shoot the target and listen to the arrow. The bow noise alerts them, the approaching arrow spooks them. This has been tested with people shooting bows near deer and they tend to spook only when the arrow is headed their way……when shot in a different direction from the same proximity, the bow noise doesn’t spook them.

    • @kanyewest1365
      @kanyewest1365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Countless videos out about them reacting to the arrow when it gets 15-20 ft away. Either way it's all hocus pocus. Some vanes are slightly quieter than others but deer hear them all. There are videos of guys shooting literally every popular vane out there and they all sound about the same. I highly doubt this is any different.
