This was insightful. I aspire to be an Emergency Medicine specialist myself too but the fear of burnout, relatively low pay compared to other specialties on a longer run and the fact that patients don't acknowledge you for saving their lives is all that I keep hearing from the people in the field. Frankly, I'm still okay with the pay being low but EM docs mentioning they don't get the credit they deserve for saving lives is truly demotivating and that's the reason I'm considering something safe like Internal Medicine.
