I got fired from my job. Was only there a few months. Hated it. At first I was upset but they really set me up for success. My unemployment was literally 100 dollars less than my paychecks. And I am not joking. (My paychecks were small to begin with). While I was off for several months (and getting paid), I completed a certification. Start a new job soon with a drastic pay increase.
I've worked a corporate job for 10 yrs. Was just fired due to work place retaliation from my direct managers. They were sadistic. It sucked going into a place and spending 8+hrs a day with people who actively despised you. God it was soul crushing. I'll never work a corporate slave job again. It's all toxic bs, fake smiles, fake conversations, brown nosing, office politics, just sick...
@@brett9176 I know exactly what you mean. It's exactly the same in the UK. I despise the corporate work environment with a passion. The thought of having to go do another corporate job fills me with dread and anxiety.
Big problem for me is just dealing with people. I'm tired of working with those who treat work like an episode of mean girls or desperate house wife's. I've spent most of my life in the oil field and 99% of the time just putting up with back stabbing shit talking and politics of the workspace makes it not worth it. And that's before getting into the issue of the economy etc.
Not worth it! Even if I made a ton of $, my time, my life is not worth giving 40+ hours a week to the corporations. I'd rather downsize, work less & enjoy life! Started 2 biz & make my own hours. Never go back! Thanks Tim for your insight.
I work three days per week in a dish pit. Free food. And a quick $300 per week. That's about all I can take . Three 6 hour shifts per week. Live in van and eat what I want . Get a hotel once or twice per week. 24 hour fitness pass. 😊
How long do you live in a van? Isn't that stressful? I mean you have to be vigilant 24/7 and ready to move. I find it horribly stressful now that I'm 43 almost.
I am glad I retired 13 years ago when I was 58. I worked full time for 36 years starting when I was 22 and had just graduated from college. I had a career in Accounting and Finance that paid reasonably well and starting around age 40 my wife and I started drastically ramping up our savings so that we could retire as soon as we were able to. Retirement has it’s pros and cons but overall it is much better than working in corporate America. I urge every working American to prioritize achieving financial independence as soon as you are able to. A variation of this is to stop working full time and find a part time job where you work no more than 3 days a week at a lower level and lower stress job. Believe me, being financially independent is more valuable than any material possession you can own!
Dude, that's exactly how I feel. You hit the nail on the head with the carrot dangling analogy. I worked my ass off for 15 years to get promotions, and eventually I reached a role that was close to the top of my field, and I still can't afford to buy a house. On paper, I'm making almost 3x what I used to, but my life isn't any more comfortable. It's an unbelievable amount of stress to deal with, and it just doesn't feel worth it. I never in a million years thought I wouldn't be the guy striving and grinding for the next thing, but life has really burnt me out. At this point, I'd honestly prefer just having a decent regular job, living as minimally as I can, and just coasting from here on out.
That's why i just do seasonal jobs and gig work. I don't have a car neither. I'm 35 and i gave up my 9 to 5 job because I'm focusing on my mental health. It's okay to quit and take a break for a little bit then go back to applying for a job. I had a job at the grocery store for 5 years then quit and focusing on my mental health and going to the gym. Thank you Timothy.
I was fortunate to pay off my house in 2019 after 17 years, switched to my own side hustle that handles my bills and I'm pretty much in semi-retired mode at 47. No children either. I’m done arguing with people about work, let people do what they want. Some people enjoy being slaves for the machine, other people are fine not working and finding unique ways to survive. Find a system that works for you, the point is people need to have more options.

The employment equation: The employer pays just enough to keep the employee from leaving. The employee works just enough to keep the employer from firing him.
Amen I used to be the first to pick up overtime and the work environments I was in just kept getting worse and there was no escaping the toxicity either from every direction. It’s hard working a regular job when other people see you as an attractive woman that should have a “perfect” life. People really have no clue… and I have dealt with the worst since I came out of the womb but I still smile and I swear people hate me for it. It’s weird and disheartening and discouraging. You can’t even ignore people and do your job because it almost makes the bullies go even harder. I find it strange that men sexualize me and women older than me just hate me they don’t even treat me as a daughter. After my second child loss I had to step away because I have my own problems and can’t deal with that. I would rather be poor even though I have always been a good hard worker. Oh well! God got me.
Ugh. I keep thinking it's me because I won't tolerate nonsense at work. Boundaries, respect and consideration are no longer seen in the workplace. I give so much more than I receive at work but it's just not appreciated. Now I want to find a way to have a business that works for me. I feel like I need to find a new way. Thanks for this video!

I stepped away from job as a director of operations at healthcare company after 18 years. The new VP drove up expectations and longer hours. Meanwhile, our benefits kept getting cut. I left when I was 53 and 55 now and work back in Nuclear Medicine part time, Tuesday-Thursday. I’m done and I will NEVER take on a management position again! Happy part timer here!
@ Indeed! When they can shed positions in the name of cost cutting and then dump all those duties on the manager, management is a joke. I call it the PPC. Highest productivity, highest profit, and lowest cost. All else doesn’t matter.
I’m barely over 50 and make a really good living and even I’m starting to wonder if I should go ahead and get out of this rat race. It’s gotten so bad I’m considering taking the 10% penalty on my retirement account to buy my freedom early. I never thought I would say that. The grind really starts to take it toll at my age and you start to wonder the possibilities of leaving this earth with muched saved without enjoying the fruits of your labors. It really starts to play on you mentally. You can’t buy good health.
I am 56 and started working around 14. Over the course of those years I worked for around 8 companies. Sometimes working multiple jobs at one time. Not one of those companies genuinely cared about their employees. Raises on average went up 3.5% a year while health care costs went up twice that. I witnessed pensions ended and a 401k replace them with a dismal 3-5% match. Meanwhile the cost of managing the 401k’s went up substantially and nearly negated the match. The reality is I’ve come to realize the only job that is worth the squeeze is when you own the business and work for yourself. Keep your living expenses low and go do it! If I’m going to work 70 hours a week it will be for me and my family and NOT a greedy company.
Thank You 🙏 I’m always the best worker wherever I chose to work. But I always receive racism and hatred wherever i go. Not all of us are lazy. people just tired of this lame system and treatment at most places.
What. I guess okay as long as your husband is working. Never good to withdraw from a 401k early, especially 41. Definitely will regret that when your older.

We are stuck in a spiral man. We work hard as a motheffff but still is not enough, we have to have like two or three jobs to keep ourselves at float but that's not life though. We compromise our health for nothing.
Gave notice that I'm quitting at the end of the year. It's been a long plan in the works. I work as a software developer, so the juice was decent, but it will never be enough to escape the rent trap. The squeeze is what really kills it. I give everything I have to give and it's never enough, and I'm so tired by the end of the day I can't even use the money I've earned. I just can't anymore, so I'm getting out of this grind.
I walked away from a job I had for 5 years that paid 65k. Reason? High school type drama, zero leadership and my body was getting banged up from repetitive movements. I took a 15k pay cut, but I have a peace of mind now. Yeah, no more trips and unnecessary clothing purchases, but I feel better. I'm just happy I never believed the dream and tried to buy a house, brand new car etc like its 1950. Save your money.
A promotion with not much of a raise would mean more responsibility, which sometimes means working 3-4 other jobs all in one, no pay, as well as interrupting your comfort zone!

I'm a self employed, child free minimalist. I've been semi retired since I was 35 on a salary under $50k per year. I only work an average of 10 hours per week. People just need to make better life choices. I feel like I should start a consulting business to help others.
I decided to leave my management career behind (working 60/70 hours a week) and now, I work four six hour shifts a week and make almost the same money. No stress, no bs…I just don’t care to work more than that.
There's a number of issues here, but the main one is there's no more job stability, upward mobility at these companies, and they're not paying nearly enough to justify staying at one job for 30, 40 years. Companies are not giving you a pension, they are low balling you on pay and benefits... So what good is there to go to work hard anymore? I'm not a socialist, by any means... But you need to pay people a fair rate otherwise they won't show up to work. The carrot was a good tool to get people to show up. At least back in the day, people got a decent enough home, two cars, 2.5 kids, a dog or cats, and a spouse that they could provide for. Today, people are working 2-3 jobs and are still not able to make it. That's why people aren't "wanting to work," anymore. They don't want to be exploited. As you mentioned, you can still be broke and be at home. and not all jobs are good jobs. if you're working 40 hours a week and you can't pay your bills, then the job isn't worth it.
I agree with you, that's why I prefer to work for myself. At times, I've had to hire crews and employees. I completed a project in Sept. 2024. I hired 10 crew members for that job. I don't agee with minimum wage. My lowest pay was 18 per hour my highest was 25 per hour, some got 250 per day. One of the criteria for working for me is "whistle while you work." Sometimes I struggle as an employer because I enjoy what I do, and at times, I'm too empathetic. I live in Florida. None of my crew had to purchase water, ice, drinks, or coffee. As an employer, I treat my crew the way I want to be treated. My company is small, but corporations need to do better.
A candy company known around the World. Gave their employees a 10 cent raise and a $100 bonus. The avg pay was $8.50 an hour. This company makes the best soft peppermint candy. Half the staff has been with the company over 30 yrs.

Self employment is way under rated. Both my wife and myself have been self employed nearly our entire lives. We both work from home so there's no need to commute across town in rush hour traffic and no ridiculous new wardrobes every year. I buy a few pairs of $15 jeans and some cheap tshirts a few times a year and my wife often works in the nude or close to it. About 90% of the work I've done over the years has been under the table for cash money. By the way, getting old is under rated.
So true!! These jobs are bs. Sometimes they look for any reason to fire you.

Oh well! God got me.
