    Great video Ollie, just to take the camera off and chill with some visual! This is something I’ve not done yet, but would like to do. Must be fantastic seeing things with your own eyes! How different using the hand controller 🤣 Nice one mate, clear skies!

      Mate you've got to try the old Esprit with your eyes mate it offers some great views. Clear skies Pal.

    Hi Ollie I started my astronomy journey in the sixties well befor the time of digital photography, and some of my best memories are of looking at the planet's visually and finding new deep sky targets by star hopping and trying different eyepieces to see if you can get out just a little more details. I like digital astrophotograph too, but there's something special about seeing things with your own eyes it's like seeing a brilliant sunset yourself being in the moment and feeling and seeing the light change it's a one off special moment. No matter how good a picture is you just don't get the same feeling from them

      Absolutely agree Tony I enjoy the art in the photos and different ways of processing but there's a very special feeling when you're looking at the object directly with no middle man. Cheers Pal.

    Videos about visual astronomy are very needed on your channel. You are missing quite a lot if you are astrophoto only. try using/presenting better diagonal and eyepieces.

      Hey Frack I know right, I just thought they were telescope miniatures for display till somebody told me you put them in the end 😲. :) Cheers mate clear skies.

    Spot on Ollie, it's nice just to look sometimes. I remember my first view of Saturn, it was amazing. Glad you also suffer from mislaying all your end caps too 😂

      Hey John - Ye and your videos remind me to also get out and do some camping, too easy to get swept up in gadgets. Oh those end caps !! 🤔

    That's awesome Ollie! I've done a couple of star parties this year which was fun. I need to put together a visual only setup. Would love to get a C8 or C9.25 strictly for visual. CS!

      @OlliesSpace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James - Yes I think like you say just having a scope setup like that for visual is a great idea, so much fun. CS Pal.

    Glad to see another 120ED vid. What are your impressions with the stock focuser on the 120? I have read several people who own one that ended up replacing the focuser due to slippage and just unhappy with the quality of the focuser. Also where did you get the handle that has the battery attached. Looks pretty handy for handling this beast of a scope. Looking forward to more vids on the 120. It is a great scope.

    • @OlliesSpace
      @OlliesSpace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Marvin I've not had any issues with the focuser to be honest. No real complaints about this scope apart from it being a bit heavy. The handle is a Farpoint Astro L handle I got mine from First Light Optics in the UK and yes it's great for these heavy scopes. Cheers and clear skies.

    I'm doing this (visual) far too rarely. Exactly as you said: Disconnect from all the fancy computers stuff etc. I just always think once I finally (after weekds!) we have a clear night now and then I want to "work" on projects (/targets) which need long exposure times... However: Great to see you talking about it and showing your setup. By the way: Do you like your Esprit 120ED? A couple of weeks I thought about getting a bigger refractor like this. Weeks ago SVbony had a special sale and I was almost attempted to buy a SV503 (102mm aperture)..,especially since you don't have to spend a fortune for it. Interesting to hear your description of what you are seeing and which eyepieces you used etc. I always wonder how the astronomers in the past (maybe 100 year ago or so) really saw such faint objects in the night sky...fascinating.. Great video pal!

    • @OlliesSpace
      @OlliesSpace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate - Yes exactly sometimes good to disconnect from all the computers. Actually kinda nice just using the hand controller. Yes the Esprit is probably the best optics I've had in a scope. It is pretty heavy though nearly 10kg. Something like that 102 looks pretty nice, I've heard a few good reviews on them. Glad you enjoyed the video.
      Clear skies pal.

      @@OlliesSpace Wow, thanks for your feedback Ollie. Great you like it. - 10Kg is really a lot... I'll think about it. :)

      Hey Michael - Weirdest thing happened, I was looking for a secondhand achromat for my solar setup and found a used SV503 so we can compare !!

    Ah a bit of er visual how quaint lol, seriously thought the first object I looked at was Jupiter & that was a bit of a wow moment but Saturn I literally stood outside for hours just looking at it in my Icy frosty garden as it just doesn't look real. Orion is another jewel to look at & at a decent dark site some galaxies look good to like Andromeda Bodes etc. I had a great view of the veil with a 12" Dobsonian & I think a UHC visual filter but that wasn't my scope, even though the image was monochrome the strands & details showing were insane.

    • @OlliesSpace
      @OlliesSpace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ye it's pretty amazing how good some of these objects look just to the eye, really is something else. Clear skies pal.
