- Just a quick video to show the long awaited awesomeness of the ZXpand+ for the Sinclair ZX81. This adds SD card for loading and saving programs instantly, a joystick port, and sound output.
Long live the Sinclair ZX81 :)

You make my high school dreams true...i envy you😪
I just got one of these. Looks promising. Planning on coding some basic programs using it. Is there a means of being able to query the sd folders back to an array in basic or memory location? I would like to code some basic to call files on SD etc thanks
I've not tried that but must be possible, normally any command you can type at the prompt can be done in a program
I wish they'd make these again. I'd love to have one and not use my tapedeck to save programs.

I kinda want one of these.
But at the same time, I want my zx81 as stock and unexpanded as possible in order for it to be a 1k only "powerhouse" 😅
1k powerhouse 😂
@@cozzy900 I'm not wrong lmao
I still keep one totally standard. In the 80s they were doing upgrades (16k rampack etc) memotech did various keyboards and expansions for edge connector. I think they had 5 add on including an assembler module and 32k ram. They are unobtainable though😓 although I can load from the Mic I can't get the save to work no matter what I do. So other than Wespi esp32 (which I also couldn't get working) this zxpand and sd card is the best thing. For some strange reason that I can't understand myself, I want to write assembly code on the real zx81 using the bugbyte ZXAS
@byteforever7829 the vic20 is my main tinkering machine, love the challenge of doing things in such a small machine, no fancy commands or extra chips doing the work for you.
where can you get the SD card to work with this please? Any idea about the latest firmware?
There's a post here that tells you about the file browser www.sinclairzxworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=671 but you don't need the file browser just drop files on a fat32 formated sd card (probably is a size limit 16Gb bit not sure), you can then use the key shortcuts i think i nentioned or the standard load save etc
Ive always wanted an 81 just to see what I could make it do.
ZXpand+ would be next on the wishlist.
thank you for making this vid. i never knew this existed.
