Digital Speedometer can never replace the joy of watching the needle moving in Analog Speedometer. Change my mind!
Its true. Even worse because almost every digital speedo out there updates so damn slowly! From one number to the next can be a 30kmh gap when accelerating!

I feel like luxury cars should retain the analog dials cuz like the digital gauge cluster kinda feels cheap but a well made analog speedometer now that’s feels special, (not talking about performance cars)
Except the one in lexus lfa, gosh it is so joyous to watch the rev counter needle moving so fast even though it is digital

Me too! I was thinking about getting a new M3 (but I don't love the design). An E39 M5 would be a nice substitute (with a few aftermarket mods).

@@user-xr4io8ep6g different characters the s50b32 and s54b32 but I'd take the E36 m3 over the e46 if I had the option of choice. Really good examples of e36's are faster than e46 m3's (not considering the csl).

It’s quite a fast car
Honestly its a bit slow for a medium size 2wd sedan/coupe, dont know if its the aerodynamics or misplaced gearing for top speed or a combination that is the problem. I was hoping for 290 speedo or so, at least 275 real speed. Ah well, 265 real speed is good enough for most people. Maybe it could have done 275 with better gearing, doesnt look entirely impossible.
@@GoldenCroc I also find it a bit slow. I had a friend who had filmed his M3 e46 at 290km / h and his M3 e36 3.0 at 280km / h. He himself has a friend who had an M3 e36 3.2 with different camshafts. 304km / h with GPS.
@@GoldenCroc its geared to do 204mph standard but obviously it doesnt have the power to do that. I had my e46 m3 clocked on my gps at 168mph.
It probably has only 290-300hp max after all these years. It’s a little slow actually. I had one back in 2006, and stock engine would take you to 300kph no problem

@@jareknowak8712 - you're right, I should've specified in comparison to the G80 M3 of today. I think the E46 is just over 3000lbs & the G80 is nearly 2 tons. (it's why I drive an M2 Comp & am currently shopping for a Cayman 718 or that new Lotus Emira. Which do you prefer on looks alone? I wanna keep my budget under 6 figures. If I had the money I'd love one of those Maserati MC20's.

I had 320d but this car is my dream no matter how old it is. The e46 is far from being perfect which may be why this makes it more like a human and you can make connections with it. The look of the car is for me how a car should look or BMW I should say.
I have 1 m3 e46 mine is 2006 mystic blue with cinnamon interior and Dinan package, smg (no manual) it has around 450 hp because was upgraded it's too fast machine, is in Orlando, Florida USA.

My 2005 M3 is at 166,000 miles and did 155mph (GPS verified, 160mph on the speedometer) in 5th gear at 7600rpm the other day. (Not limited) totally stock as well. (Did the rod bearings 6k miles ago) I was surprised I still had 500rpm to go, and didnt need to even touch 6th gear. Only slowed down due to hitting traffic ahead. Love these cold fall mornings.

BMW M3 E46 is the best card ever, idgaf. I currently drive 320d and its a great car. I never drove M3 but i think its insane to drive, also its exterior is still like the best, even in 2022.

Love how so many hate on a lighter 5spd when irl that 6th gear isnt giving you more juice on the top end.
What? There is no rule you have to space gears like this, it depends entirely on what cogs you got in the box. And you gain a heck of a lot of usability at higher speed with more gears, for a relatively minimal weight gain on a street car.

To be honest, M3 e46 should still go in 6th gear. Have seen a lot doing 280~290. It takes a while but they should be able to do it
Amazing car ....
If it's been well maintained and has modern tyres (not the stock Pilot SuperSports or PS2 it came with) then the 0-60 times are decently below 4.8s. The stock figures were very conservative for the time as it was and with modern tyres like Pilot Sport 4 S and a well maintained engine and suspension setup, the performance is quite a bit better.
